Chapter 20

“I shouldn't have kissed you." I grumbled as I clutched to my pillow. Squeezing it as my head entertained only one thought. Last night. The taste of her lips, it's softness. The bright green shade of her eyes.

“I shouldn't have kissed you Green." I growled again, trying as much to suppress Impulse's control over me. My temperature burned as if it were on fire, my heart racing and my crotch refusing to soften. I was craving her, more than ever. I rolled over to the other side of the bed back and forth, gritting my teeth as I kept picturing several moments with Green.

Impulse on the other hand was overwhelmingly violent, wanting to take full control over me but I continued fighting against him. Letting him out was like freeing a monster from its shackles. I alighted from the bed with my crotch poking through my joggers. My gaze darted to the bathroom, but I shun those thoughts off. I'd already jerked off a couple times ever since the morning dawned and it didn't help.

I walked around my room in frustration as sweats began to break on my skin. As hard as I tried to focus on something, the mate bond overpowered me. Making me lust after nobody but Green. I cursed underneath my breath as I sat at the edge of my bed. Tapping my feet repeatedly against the marble floor. I was restless, I knew my cure, but I couldn't take it. Thanks to the mating cycle, my heat period had turned me into a restless entity dreaming about the body of his mate. I wondered how Green was faring too, she was a Vampire perhaps she might not be affected by the heat period. Either way, I knew I couldn't dare to meet her in this state but then my fears came true. The doors flung open rather noisily, my eyes exclaimed, and my jaw almost dropped.

“I hate you. I hate you I hate you I hate you." Green chattered lucidly through gritted teeth as she shut the doors noisily before rewarding me with a deadly stare.

Beads of sweats lined on her forehead and her breaths were just as unstable as mine. I frowned as I arose immediately on instincts.

“You don't look good. What's wrong?" I queried sharply.

“Isn't it obvious!" She pitched as she inched towards me in a blink. The sparks and excitement within me exploded as her breaths graced my neck. My breaths ceased instantly.

“Our mating cycle is kicking in!" She almost screamed as she trailed away, walking back and forth restlessly.

“Gosh my body is craving you badly, I can't seem to quench my burning desire to have you!" She lamented as she rubbed through her brown curls in a restless manner. But all I could think of as she paced back and forth was how her breasts danced in tune to her movements and her beautiful curve. My lustful thoughts peaked on a higher level and this time I wasn't sure I could control myself anymore.

“Coming here was a bad idea Green,” I said as I gulped down my saliva unable to take my eyes off.

“You think I don't know that?!" She screamed as she neared me again. "I've tried staying away from you, but it didn't work! Nothing worked! I'm losing control myself so don't start blaming me!"

I closed the gap further, holding her gaze.

“Take calm breaths and—”

“I can't take calm breaths dumb head, I want you!!" She snarled. "You're not even holding up well either,” she remarked as her eyes fell to my crotch.

I scratched my head racing for several ideas to ease us, but I knew better. There was no other way other than mating. And that's one big step both of us weren't definitely ready to take.

“Green, listen to me," I said as I held her cheek, but she flung my hands away.

“Don't touch me, it's only going to worsen our situation!"

“Green, we can get through this together," I quoted even though I knew I was deceiving myself. "Let's start by taking calm brea—”

“We can't get through this together Zeus! We're talking about a whole day of being so horny!"

“All the more reason we should stick to our strong resolve!"

“You have no idea the things I want to do to you Zeus." My crotch stretched further. "Your scent is driving me crazy. I want to hold you, I want you to dominate me, I want to kiss you badly, taste those sweet lips again, I want you to fuck me till I can't—”

“Green if you continue talking like this I might as well do those things." I growled and instantly, my left arm curled around her waist, pulling her close to me sharply. My eyes focused on her pink lips.

“Don't even dare!" She growled too but our bodies said otherwise. I gulped down my saliva before forcing all muscles to let go. I walked away from her, rubbing through my hair frantically. On one hand was my mate who seemed like she was going to lose it anytime soon. On the other, was my Wolf, craving to take control and do justice to my mate.

This was hell, if I had known our mating cycle would come sooner perhaps, I might have been able to avert it.

“Are you happy now Zeus?! If you had rejected me, both of us wouldn't have to go through this torture!"

“This heat period wasn't supposed to be this strong." I sighed.

“We're powerful beings Zeus. I'm the ruler of Vampires and you're the Serpent Wolf, of course our mate bond would be freaking strong!" She gestured.

“There's another way,” I said as I turned to her.

“If you think I'm going to allow you have my body then you're dreaming!"

“What no!" I screeched. "I mean yes I would love to but both of us aren't ready." I gestured.

“You mean I'm not ready cos it looks like your little man down there seems more than ready to devour me,” she remarked while she gestured towards my crotch.

“You're lucky I'm still in control of my Wolf." I retorted.

“You better keep him in check if not, I won't hesitate to break that rod."

I took deep breaths before holding her gaze again. The idea I had in my head wasn't going to be of much help, but it was at least better than being in the same room, alone with her.

“Do you trust me?" I asked already aware of what her next answer would be.

“No."

“It's worth trying so just follow my lead, okay?" I managed to flash her a smile.

“You know, when you said you had a plan, I didn't know it would involve you teleporting us to New York,” she said, this time on a relatively calmed note. I stared at her as we walked on the busy road filled with several tourists. She was donning a long brown coat over her silky white top and pair of blue fitted jeans complemented with matching stiletto heels. I on the other hand, donned a green jacket on a white top and pair of fitting black jeans complemented with green sneakers.

“And stop gawking at me,” she remarked with a tiny smile gracing her face.

“How can I? You look ravishing." I smiled as I returned my gaze to the road.

“Remember our current status before you start flirting,” she commented, and I chuckled.

“At least the effect isn't so much." I answered, but we were deceiving ourselves. Our bodies still lusted for each other but thanks to the crowds.

“I figured if we both went out for some fresh air it would help us a bit. Besides, this city is a beautiful place and Martha told me you had a likening of the human world."

“And then you decided to bring me here. How is this going to help us huh?" She glanced at me with disapproving looks.

“Well, we could enjoy the tour around like a couple." I grinned innocently. She glared.

“We're not a couple,” she stated lucidly.

“Come on Green." I tugged at her arm. "At least let us have this fun just this time."

“And that's what you said last night till you finally got your chance to kiss me,” she toned with heavy dose of sarcasm. I chuckled while the image flashed in my head.

“Well. This time I don't intend on kissing you even though I badly want to." I smiled.

She smiled for a brief moment.

“On the other hand, we could talk about random stuff," I chirped.

“Like?"

“Well," I shrugged. "Like how you defeated Vera, or how Vampires are able to walk under the sun." I proposed.

She hesitated for a while before heaving a sigh.

“I used a curse on Vera."

“Curse? I thought Vampires can't allowed use magic."

She smirked.

“Let's just say it's one of those gifts I have. Just like you."

“So, if you curse me now—”

“No silly!" She smiled. "It doesn't work like that. I have to first have a taste of my victim before I can compel or curse them."

I nodded.

“But you hate me Green, why haven't you used it on me."

She held my gaze, and I could see faint admiration beam in those eyes.

“I can't and you know that too. Our powers can't work against each other since we're mates."

“Assuming it could work," I toned sadly, reminiscing on those hateful actions she's done to me occasionally.

“I'm sure you would have cursed me to a slow painful death."

I felt her gaze on me instantly, but I couldn't look. She was probably about to spill something heart wrenching.

“Maybe,” she whispered, and we went mute for minutes. Just walking in silence. I wondered what was scaling though her mind, perhaps she was already orchestrating new ways to punish me.

“Not all Vampires can walk under the sun though,” she started again, her gaze fixated to the people walking past us.

“City of Marr is one of those special clans. Legend has it that Selene, the Vampire goddess, descended from my clan. And so, when we clock a century year old, we can walk under the sunlight."

I nodded while a sad smile crept to my face. One I couldn't hide from her.

“My clan is blessed with another gift," she pursed her lips as if she were hesitating to spill the next words.

“We're fertile until we're two millennial years old,” she said almost in a whisper. My eyes exclaimed, and my heart skipped a beat as I halted abruptly. By my calculations, I knew my mate wasn't even a millennial yet.

She stopped too, trying to comprehend my expression.

“My Goodness." I mumbled in awe. "You mean there's a possibility that I can be a father!!" I screamed, caring less about the attention my voice brought.

She frowned.

“You're never going to have my body, let alone dream of me carrying your child."

I chuckled while I held her arms.

“Look into my eyes and say those words again."

She closed the gap between us with a cold countenance.

“I'm never going to have a child. Not for you. Not for anybody."

“But your eyes are saying otherwise." I replied, noticing the faint hope that bloomed in those grey irises.

“You told me this because somewhere deep down in you, a part of you wants us to be a couple.

To be proper mates. To have a family. A happy one."

She pulled away from my grasp.

“That part of me doesn't exist Zeus,” she toned sadly before walking away.

And with every step she took further away from me, I knew that part still existed. A part where she wished she was happy, that we were happy.

My palms curled into a fist. No matter what it took, I was going to make that wish come true.
