CHAPTER 2

In my life, I've never been embarrassed like that. I mean even if the man was gay, he could've sent a letter or something or told me at the bar, instead of making me follow him like that.

What am I even saying? The website said nothing about him being gay. Before today, the website had never failed. I had conducted all of my operations through that site. It had never failed me.

I stared at the spot where my target had been sitting, then I smiled. It was a strange smile. It didn't mean I was giving up. Nope. Instead, I was even more determined to get him. His net worth was too big for me to pass him by.

I looked towards the bar. Simply because I had my sights set on one target didn't mean I was going to deprive myself from having fun tonight.

Besides, he wasn't there any longer. I could do whatever the fuck I wanted now. All I had to do was make sure I was focused enough tomorrow morning to make sure I accomplished my goals.

***

The next morning, I had to go to work again. Quite honestly, the money and gifts I had gotten over the years was quite substantial. But that didn't mean I was going to quit my job suddenly. I was no motherfucking fool.

Besides, it was way too much fun dressing up real cute and seeing those poor things salivate over what they were never going to have.

Maybe it was cruel, but isn't it fun seeing people fall over you? When you know they'll never have you? Or rather, you'll never let them have you?

I sat in my office, and as I was about to turn on my computer, my phone rang. It was a strange number. I picked up cautiously.

I really hoped it wasn't a jealous girlfriend or wife. Trust me, that had happened way too many times. "Stop fucking hanging around my boyfriend!" That was usually the way the whiney ones spoke. Sometimes they tried to assuage me with guilt. "Don't you know he has kids? And a wife?"

These poor women. I guess I was doing them a favor. I'm sacrificing myself for their sake. Spending time with these lackwits. They should thank me for revealing these men's true colors.

But no. I have even received death threats. It's not like I go for married men purposely. If the man tells me he's single, and it fits my purposes, then why not?

I'm not completely heartless though. Or am I?

Anyways back to the phone call. "Hello?" I answered.

"Gem?" the person on the line said. I knew instantly it was one of those lackwits I was talking about. I gave them the name Gem. It suited me quite well. I loved gems. And I wasn't about to give my real name to a number of desperate and horny men.

"Speaking," I said dryly.

"Have you changed your mind?" the person asked, and I stared at the wall bemused.

"Who is this?" I asked. I didn't recall promising anything to anyone.

"It's Tom. Don't you remember? You told me you never wanted to see me. Have you changed your mind?"

"Oh," I said dispassionately. I really needed to start choosing these men with care. These desperate types were not attractive, no matter how fat their pockets were.

"I forgot I hadn't blocked your number yet. Let me do that," I said.

"I can ruin your life," Tom said, albeit weakly.

"I can ruin yours Jerry. Don't fucking try me. Oh. By the way, say hi to Maude for me," I exclaimed cheerfully, then hung up.

These men disgusted me. He was a fucking scumbag. He had a wife and a kid on the way. But he kept on calling me.

Also, I especially hated being threatened. Before getting into anything with these men, I made sure I had dirt on them. I wasn't going to be led around by a bunch of cheating, no good idiots.

I sighed, then blocked his number. As I turned on my computer, I stared at the screen unseeingly. I was still focused on my loss of the previous night.

I had never ever been so fucking humiliated in my life. When I set my sights on a target, I always got it. No matter how hard. I had even gotten some of the ones rumored to be gay. I didn't pretend to change their sexuality. But dude, I knew I was powerful.

I was a queen. And a mere man had tried to take away my crown. Well, we are going to see, Mr. Giovanni. I never lose. Ever.

***

Soon enough, I was done at work. I was good at my job. A lot of people thought I was a stupid bimbo. But I was an accomplished computer programmer. I made my own money. I was comfortable. Why do all this then?

I don't know. The thrill. The fact that I could make the most powerful men bow at my feet. It was a heady feeling. I had tasted it years ago. And I wasn't giving it up.

As I was walking out of the office, I was accosted again. It was Pete this time around. Pete was as fair as Jones was dark. He was the blonde type with blue eyes and an easygoing smile. But unfortunately, he didn't have money as well.

"Hey pretty lady," he said.

"Hey Pete," I replied with a smile. "Any news for me?" I continued, fingering his tie.

I used Pete sometimes. Not my fault that a small smile and batting of lashes could make him tell me whatever I wanted him to.

"On?" he asked, watching me with those eyes of his.

To be honest, if I was a weaker woman, I would have succumbed. But nah. My objectives were way too set in stone.

"Reeves! Giovanni! Who have I been obsessing over?" I asked, rolling my eyes. Pretty boy was dumb.

"Oh. No. Nothing since yesterday," he said with a small frown.

I let go of his tie and stepped back. "Thanks."

"Wait Mel, what about some co—"

"Sorry, I'll be busy," I said and walked as fast as I could to my car. I had no need for unwanted baggage in my life.

I sighed. Reeves was proving to be a difficult chase. But I loved the chase. I was a lioness. I didn't mind playing with my prey as long as I caught it in the end. And trust me I was going to catch him.
