CHAPTER 25
Reeves came back to the room that night, with two glasses of pineapple smoothie and no change in character. If anything, he came back with a sexy dangerous glint in his eyes and fucked me better than he ever did. So, it was very possible that I was scared for nothing, and he didn’t hear a word I had said. Some of his actions after that night, like how he didn’t call me or ask me if I wanted to buy anything, was hinting that maybe he heard me, or I was just getting ahead of myself and thinking too much, as a result, reading too much into things that were probably nothing, and it’s not like I could outright ask him if heard what I had said. And if his reply was positive, what was I going to do? But then again, it had been two days, since that night, and I understand that he had work to do, but God, what exactly was his problem?
I was adamant to get to the bottom of the matter, using whatever method I could think of to do it. I was frustrated, because I couldn’t get inside his head, but it would be over by sunset. I channeled my energy into my work, and by the end of the day, when I closed from work, I drove straight to Reeves house, knowing that he’d be home. I was ready to take him on and maybe say a few words to get me back in his good graces. What I wasn’t ready for though, was the unwanted visitor smiling sheepishly with her big doe eyes, full of love and adoration for Reeves.
“Melanie, you didn’t tell me you were coming,” the words left Reeves’s mouth.
“And here is the reason why not telling you was a good decision.” I frowned. Daisy had the arrogance to scoff at my words. So, I gave her a real reason to scoff. I walked confidently to the single sofa that Reeves sat on, climbed onto his legs, grabbed his face in my hands and kissed him, marking my damn territory. Reeves was kissing me back, but I could tell it was out of habit, not because he wanted to. His body was used to mine already, and it had missed me, just as mine missed him.
“I guess coming here was a real big mistake,” Daisy cried, that was when Reeves got back to his senses and pushed me away, making a move to go to her. Reeves action could only mean one thing: he had heard me that night. I knew it, I felt it, but I just needed confirmation from him.
“Reeves, what is wrong with you? First you don’t call me for days, and then when I finally come to see you, you’re with another woman and you’re giving me the cold shoulder? What is this about, the thing with Stephen?” or the call with Stephen. But I couldn’t bring myself to ask.
“You should go home, Melanie,” Reeves couldn’t be bothered with answering me.
“I won’t go anywhere until you tell me what this is about,” my stubbornness got the better of me.
“FOR FUCK SAKES, MELANIE, GET THE HELL OUT OF MY HOUSE!” it was the first time that I let a man yell at me in that manner. It annoyed me to no ends. Why couldn’t he be mature about the whole thing and talk to me instead of getting a rebound?
I nodded my head at him, took a deep breath to calm myself down, and then I walked towards her with a smirk on my face.
“Don’t get too comfortable, you’re just the rebound,” I spat then walked out of the house. Again, not to feel entitled to something that doesn’t belong to me, but I worked too hard. I gave my body to the man for some stupid human to try and take him from me, but then again, when was I going to stop? Maybe this was the perfect time to end this thing with Reeves and go find myself some other, less difficult guy that would fall helplessly in love with me, without having to do much.
Let’s face it, Reeves was the challenge I needed to further prove that I could make just about anyone fall in love with me and give me their money. I had only followed him for so long because he seemed difficult, but that was just about it. I may be a little bit sorry for my little deceit, but that was it, I needed to move on from him and go back to tracking politicians who stole a lot of money from the country but couldn’t quite use the money they steal for anything.
“Wang,” I spoke into my phone when Stephen picked up “You don’t sound good,” Stephen pointed out.
“Yeah, that’s because I don’t feel good. Reeves was listening in on us that night. I went to his house to confirm it and I saw him with that stupid Daisy girl. Can you believe he even took her side?” I let out my anger. I looked back at the house I just came out of, wishing I didn’t even go there in the first place. I let out a breath and got into my car, while still on the phone with Stephen.
“You busy? Let’s meet up for drinks or something.” I was calm now.
“Yeah, I’m busy, about to Skype Emilia, she might be coming here for business.” His sorry tone annoyed me in a way.
“Okay, enjoy.” I hung up and drove straight home. I had to go back to being the creative, scheming, genius I am and find someone else. That was the new plan.
