CHAPTER 24

As expected, Reeves drove us back to his house, he was being very careful with me, like I was an egg that could break in no time. When we arrived at his house, he started off by asking a lot of questions, not about what happened to me in the restaurant, but about my welfare, if I needed anything, or if I wanted to eat this or that. I had smiled at him and placed a short kiss on his lips, to tell him that I was really okay. The messages didn’t bother me as much as he was making it out to be, I never let them bother me, and I was a pro at ignoring messages like that.

“I just want your mood back,” Reeves held my face in his palms.

“My mood never changed, it’s all in your head sir. I smiled at him, and then placed a kiss on each palm. He needed me to make a joke or say something sexual as proof that my mood didn’t change.

“You seem to be very into me, hotshot,” I joked, and he laughed. I stopped laughing in my head, and let my brain record the beauty that was Reeves—his smile and the sound of his laughter. I kept my eyes on his jaw line and watched closely as his Adam apple bopped slowly as he swallowed while throwing his head back. I wanted to stop looking at him, but I didn’t know how to. He was the first person, excluding myself that I wanted to watch forever.

“Do I have something on my face?” Reeves asked. He noticed I wasn’t laughing anymore, and all my attention was on him.

“Yes, I was wondering how one man could look so… UGLY,” I made a yucky sound, laughing as Reeves’s face went from excited to offended in a split second.

“Miss Bin, you’re being a very naughty girl,” Reeves whispered into my ears, making all my body aware of his presence; I threw back my head, like I was expecting him to do more than just whisper in my ears. The way my body reacted to Reeves was shocking, like I wasn’t the owner of the body.

Reeves picked me up from the couch in the living room to his bedroom, all the while, keeping a smirk on his lips as he moved swiftly but gracefully. I giggled as Reeves moved around me, finding everything he was doing and not doing very funny. When Reeves got to his room, he dropped me carefully on his bed, smiling down at me with his hands on each side of his waist. He looked down at me with satisfaction, like he was proud to have me where he wanted me. I could understand that though, even I would be proud to have me sexily dressed and on my bed.

“I’m going to make us a late-night snack. Take your time and rest, but don’t fall sleep on me.” Reeves smiled and walked out of the room. On cue, my phone started ringing; it was Stephen.

“Wang, what the hell are you calling me late at night for?” I asked him immediately when I picked up the call.

“It’s nice to finally get a hold of you too,” Stephen said, sarcasm dripping from each word.

“How are you, stupid? It’s been barely a day and sure you miss me so much.” I smiled.

“You wish. You refused to see me in the name of going out on a date, and you think I won’t call for gossip?” Stephen asked, making me laugh.

“Usually, you’re more of a gentleman, and you let me bring the gossip to you, but I can’t blame you though, nothing superior is going on in your life,” I joked.

I was about to take the risk and tell Stephen about the messages I got, not that there was anything different about it, but I really wanted to say something about it, something small, so I did.

“The date was good thank you for asking, although it was almost crashed by some dumb waiter and texts from a wife of one of the men,” I dropped. Stephen was quiet for a while.

“You got texts from a wife of one of the men? Like one of the men you’ve taken money from?” Stephen asked for confirmation, to which I replied positively. “Damn, and you don’t sound bothered about it, which means it’s not the first time it’s happening,” he put together. How do I tell him that the start of it was his mother, then his girlfriend? I gave a sad hum in response.

“What did Reeves say?” he asked.

“He didn’t say anything because I didn’t tell him. Why should I anyway?” I rolled my eyes.

“I don’t know Mel. I feel you should come clean with him about your past life,” Stephen suggested. What did he mean by come clean, and what past life?

“Oh, dear Stephen, what past life are you talking about? It’s like you’re forgetting what I’m with him for. I’m very much living well in this past life. I don’t need to tell him anything, we won’t be together for long anyway. Remember, he’s only good for my pocket,” I spoke slowly so Stephen would understand and not refer to what I was doing as my “past life.”

On cue, I heard one of the doors close, not the door to the room I was in, but a door, nonetheless. Had Reeves been listening in on my conversation with Stephen?

“That’s just a load of bullshit, and you know it. You’re developing feelings for this man, so why don’t you let it happen? Stop deceiving yourself. You only said that to make it sound like reality to you.” I hate that there was a possibility that Stephen might be right, but now I had bigger problems, like DID REEVES HEAR ALL I JUST SAID ABOUT HIM?

“Wang, I’ll call you tomorrow, I think Reeves heard me,” I whispered. I didn’t wait for Stephen to reply, I hung up.

What do I do if he heard me? I guess I’d be able to tell from his behavior towards me.
