Giving Birth 11

I was wearing nothing but a thin silk nightgown.

Several rich kids were now advancing on me with sick smiles.

Rough hands grabbed my ankle before I could react, and my slippers went flying

Then someone else ripped off my socks.

My bare feet sank into snow that came up past my ankles.

Bone–chilling cold shot up from my feet straight to the top of my head.

I convulsed violently, my teeth chattering out of control

It wasn’t just cold–it was agony, like thousands of ice needles piercing straight into my bones.

“Damn, bro, look at your wife’s figure. She looks so pitiful out here in the snow.”

I lifted my head, struggling to see through the wind and snow to where Kai stood in the distance.

When he saw my face, something complex flickered in his eyes–maybe guilt, maybe reluctance.

But that emotion lasted only a second before being replaced by deeper coldness and disgust.

He didn’t stop them.

He didn’t even frown.

My belly, aggravated by the brutal cold and my instinctive struggling, began throbbing with waves of pain.

I curled up on the ground, trying to preserve what little warmth I had left.

Warm liquid flowed from between my legs. I looked down to see bright red blood seeping through my thin nightgown.

“Oh no!” Scarlett cried out dramatically, running toward me.

But she was smart–she stopped three steps away.

Tears streamed down her pitiful face as she wailed at me:

“Gianna. Just apologize to Kai! Don’t blame him–he just cares about me too much! He’s got such a soft heart!”

Looking at her, I almost wanted to laugh.

My body was nearly numb with cold, but my mind had never been clearer.

I used every ounce of strength to prop up my shaking body and stare her down:

“Scarlett, when you came back to the States, I was the one who brought you into our home.”

“I treated you like my own sister, gave you the best of everything, and what did you do?”

My voice wasn’t loud, but it was crystal clear:

“Aren’t you exhausted from all this acting?”

“And didn’t you have plans with your girlfriends that day to go do yoga…”

Chapter 2

When Kai heard my words, he glanced at Scarlet with a slight frown.

Scarlett’s face went deathdy pale, like someone who’d just been exposed. Panic flashed in her eyes,

But she truly lived up to her reputation as a Cannes award winning actress.

The next second, she raised her hand and slapped herself hard across the faret

The sharp sound echoed across the empty snowfield.

Then she dropped to her knees in the snow, sobbing like her heart was breaking, turning to Kat

“Kai! It’s all my fault! I’m the one to blame! I never should have come back, never should have made you worry about me

“If Gianna won’t forgive me, I’ll kneel here with her until she does!”

That single act of kneeling completely shattered Kai’s last shred of sanity.

He rushed over like a whirlwind, his eyes full of heartbreak as he pulled Scarlett up from the snow and held her tight, like she was some precious treasure he’d lost and found again.

When he looked at me again, the hatred and disgust in his eyes could have flayed me alive.

“Gianna, have you no shame at all!” His voice was colder than the blizzard,

“Scarlett got on her knees and begged you for forgiveness, and you’re still here spreading lies! You really think I won’t touch you, don’t you?”
