Chapter 88: The Heart Skipped a Beat
James!
Amelia was furious. She raised her hand and swept the vase at the entrance onto the floor to vent her anger!
She couldn't stay this passive anymore!
Just as she was fuming, there was a knock at the door. A server's voice came from outside, "Ms. Martinez, room 8088 has a gift for you."
8088 was James's room.
A gift?
The love of one's life?
Amelia's mood improved slightly. Good, James hadn't noticed yet. She still had time.
After composing herself, Amelia opened the door with a perfect smile on her face.
A cup of coffee was presented to Amelia.
The rising steam drifted into her eyes, stinging them.
She took a step back and asked coldly, "Where's the gift?"
"This cup of coffee is the gift that room 8088 asked us to deliver to you."
The server wore a smile, but there was contempt in their eyes.
James's group had stayed at the hotel for six days. This Amelia had been staying downstairs with the others, but paid to move across from James on her own.
Her intentions were obvious.
At this moment, Amelia understood everything.
"Get lost!"
Amelia turned back to her room furiously and slammed the door.
That bitch Mia!
...
In room 8088, Mia smiled and thanked the front desk before hanging up.
The moment she looked up, her expression turned cold. She poked James directly while questioning him with displeasure, "How come Amelia is here? Didn't you say she wasn't on this business trip?"
Even though he had just performed well, it didn't mean she could accept him lying!
Between husband and wife, honesty was precious. There should be no lies!
He knew she didn't like being deceived!
Even well-intentioned lies!
"She wasn't supposed to be here originally, but the person from the marketing department in charge of this project..."
James repeated what Amelia had said.
Mia had just witnessed James keeping his distance from Amelia when she wasn't around, so his words became much more credible.
"And you specially reserved a venue for her birthday! What a generous friend you are! I haven't seen you being this generous to me, your wife!"
Mia's hand, which had just stopped poking him, started poking again!
Getting angrier as she spoke!
"For company employees' birthdays, the assistant arranges everything."
James had been letting Mia poke him, but seeing her frown slightly from all the poking, he reached out to hold her hand and placed it on the soft flesh at his waist. "Pinch here, don't hurt yourself."
Mia belatedly realized her finger hurt. "It's all your fault! Who told you to have such hard muscles!"
James heard the playful complaint in Mia's tone - she clearly wasn't angry anymore.
His large hand wrapped around her waist, pulling her into his embrace. Looking down, he pressed his forehead against hers and said in a low, husky voice, "Don't you like it?"
She wouldn't have understood before.
But after four years of intimacy with James, he had often used such suggestive words to flirt with her in private.
She had been trained - the moment he spoke, she understood.
Her face instantly turned red!
The blush spread from her face all the way to her ears. She opened her mouth to refute, "I don't..."
But she couldn't finish the sentence.
"Don't what? Don't like it?"
James's breath was noticeably hotter, brushing against her face and making Mia's face even warmer.
The comfortable room temperature suddenly felt stifling.
James, shut up!
If she dared to respond, he would talk until she was completely embarrassed!
With no other option, she could only wrap her arms around his neck and use her only available move - seal his mouth!
As soon as she kissed him, James took control.
His long arms easily lifted her up, making it easier for him to kiss her.
From the living room outside, all the way back to the bedroom.
She was pressed by James into the soft bed.
...
Mia lay under the covers, pinching the corner of the blanket as she slowly sat up. Her gaze swept over the clothes scattered on the floor and immediately looked away.
The heat on her face hadn't dissipated yet. Biting her slightly swollen lip, she looked toward the bathroom.
Through the special glass material, though not completely clear, she could vaguely see James's excellent body proportions as he stood inside without clothes.
She could also clearly see what his hand was doing.
Mia looked away shyly after just one glance.
She pulled her bare arms out from under the blanket and covered her face, trying to cool down.
Not looking didn't mean her other senses were gone.
Hearing James's sexy muffled groan from the bathroom, images naturally floated into her mind.
He loved watching her lose herself for him.
So every time at the end, he liked to hold her chin and make her open her eyes to look at him.
She could also clearly see how he was captivated by her.
The corners of Mia's lips slowly curved up in a sweet arc.
But suddenly...
"Mia, I love you."
Her smile instantly froze. Mia's eyes flew open, breaking out in a cold sweat.
"What's wrong?"
A familiar large hand appeared on top of her head, gently rubbing. James sat down beside her, looking at Mia's somewhat pale face with concern. "Are you feeling unwell somewhere?"
Mia turned to look at James and shook her head gently.
"I'll take you to the hospital."
Seeing her face still wasn't good, James immediately stood up.
"James, I'm fine. Just a bit uncomfortable from the flight."
Mia reached out to hold James back, pushing down the strange feeling in her heart.
She should let this matter go.
She shouldn't let the past affect them both.
After adjusting herself, Mia smiled at James.
James carefully checked several times, and only when he saw she was really fine did he breathe a sigh of relief.
"Go take a bath and sleep early."
James bent down to carry her to the bathroom, but Mia pushed his hand away.
"No need."
Mia refused.
"Shy?"
James teased her.
"I'm afraid you can't handle it!"
Mia rolled her eyes at James while wrapped in the blanket.
Just now, he had only kissed her without doing anything else, and he had almost lost control.
"Be careful yourself."
James couldn't refute that!
After abstaining for so long, he really couldn't handle it.
"Stop nagging."
Mia pushed James away and went into the bathroom to shower.
James leaned against the headboard, looking toward the bathroom, meeting Mia's eyes as she poked her little head out. "Don't look!"
"Okay!"
Just imagining the scene was enough to cause a reaction.
James got up and walked out.
Hearing him leave, Mia finally started her shower.
It wasn't really being difficult - it was just that with her current physical condition, she would only exhaust James.
Counting the days, it should be about three months soon. Seeing how well James had been behaving, she should give him a surprise too.
...
James left the bedroom but didn't calm down. He picked up his cigarette pack and walked to the balcony.
He pulled out a cigarette and lit it. Soon, his desire was suppressed.
Even though his restlessness had subsided, he didn't immediately return to the room.
Leaning on the balcony, looking at Harmony City's night scene, he quietly smoked.
In the darkness, his gaze fell on the distance, his eyes complex.
"James, I think I'm starting to like you."
His heart skipped a beat.
