Chapter 87: Spending the Spring Night Together
At the other end of the hallway, Mia, who had gotten out of another elevator ahead of them, stood behind a potted plant.
She looked a bit lost.
Actually, she didn't know what she was doing either.
She could have just rushed up and confronted them directly, but the moment she saw James and Amelia appear together, her steps forward stopped.
Mia knew very clearly that from the moment she discovered James loved Amelia, the seed of doubt planted in her heart had never truly been removed.
Even though during this time, she had tried so hard to become her old self again.
The elevator James and the others were in reached the floor, and the doors opened.
Mia snapped back to reality and looked up.
James's figure appeared first in Mia's line of sight.
He strode out of the elevator with large steps, walking very urgently.
Following close behind him was Amelia, whose shawl had slipped off her shoulders, revealing her perfect figure.
There had been other people in the elevator just now, so it wasn't convenient for her to talk.
Now with just the two of them, Amelia followed behind James with graceful steps, her tone intimate, "James, I'm really happy that you specially reserved the entire restaurant for my birthday tonight."
Hearing Amelia's words, James frowned slightly.
Was Amelia misunderstanding something?
But there were only the two of them in the hotel corridor.
A man and woman alone together.
Mia would mind.
Thinking of Mia, James's steps obviously quickened, and he responded very perfunctorily.
Standing behind the potted plant, Mia's body visibly swayed slightly.
Her eyes instantly reddened.
So...
He was afraid she'd discover clues in Imperial City, so he lied to her that Amelia wouldn't be there this time.
In reality, he was using the business trip as an excuse to be with her as a couple, spending passionate nights together.
Specially reserving the entire restaurant for Amelia?
In their four years together, he had never reserved a restaurant for her even once!
Watching James's "impatient" steps, he was this eager to get into the room and spend a romantic night with Amelia.
The night Amelia was looking forward to was indeed worth looking forward to!
Standing in place, Mia hesitated.
She should go up and stop them.
She shouldn't just watch as James and Amelia actually did something.
But—
What good would stopping them once do?
"Baby, if James really betrays us, we don't want him anymore."
Mia bit her lip tightly, gently placing her hand on her belly, speaking to the baby inside in her heart.
James said she shouldn't overthink things.
So she wouldn't overthink anymore. She would see it with her own eyes.
Let herself give up hope.
A man who's been tainted—she absolutely doesn't want him!
If he dares to cheat during their marriage, she'll never forgive him!
...
Soon, James reached the door and opened it to walk inside.
Amelia followed.
Mia's heart tightened along with them, feeling like a knife was cutting through it.
Her legs, which felt like they were filled with lead, also moved forward.
"Amelia!"
James's stern rebuke stopped Mia's steps.
She quickly looked up.
The two people who should have entered the room were still at the doorway.
James stood at the door, using his cold tone to stop Amelia from following him into the room, asking coldly, "What do you want?"
She wasn't going back to her own room but wanted to follow him into his room—what was she trying to do?
James's probing gaze fell on Amelia.
He didn't understand whether she had drunk too much tonight or what!
Amelia was also startled by James's suddenly cold voice and involuntarily stepped back. After steadying herself, she raised her hand to pat her chest in shock.
She was trying to attract James's attention to her proud chest.
That was something any man would be fascinated by.
She glanced at James with seductive eyes and raised her hand.
James obviously stepped back, retreating to a distance her hand couldn't reach.
Amelia was displeased inside. There was no one else here anymore—what was James still pretending for?
Just now in the restaurant, when she hinted that she liked him, he was clearly moved.
Since he was moved, that meant he still loved her.
Why wasn't he immediately pulling her into the room? What was he waiting for?
Could it be because of last time in the car when he almost couldn't control himself and nearly "offended" her, and he was still worried about that?
She coquettishly glared at him. Hadn't her attitude during this time made it clear enough that she didn't mind?
Amelia reached out, not wanting to waste any more time, eager to expose him, "The gift."
"What gift?"
James was clearly stunned.
"Stop pretending. I saw you buy a gift. Where did you hide it?"
Amelia was getting a bit impatient. They'd been dawdling at the door this whole time—when would they finally get into the room and get to the point?
A moment of spring night was precious.
Ever since she discovered she had feelings for James, she had really wanted to have him.
She wondered what a man who seemed so cold and passionless at work would be like when he went crazy over her.
Her hand moved toward his pants pocket, to the spot most likely to arouse a man.
"Amelia!"
With nowhere left to retreat, James could only reach out to grab Amelia's wandering hand in time.
Then he realized what Amelia was referring to.
"That's for Mia!"
Amelia was clearly stunned.
That was "the love of one's life"!
How could it be for Mia!
Amelia's eyes were filled with disbelief as she asked back, "Then where's mine?"
"Right here."
Mia's voice suddenly rang out crisply, "Amelia, do you like this gift?"
Both James and Amelia's expressions changed.
Wasn't she the one who deliberately posted on social media to make her come verify the "surprise"?
Now she was returning it to her as a birthday gift.
"Mia!"
James reacted first and immediately let go of Amelia's hand.
He had just promised her he wouldn't have any physical contact with Amelia again.
Stepping past Amelia, he strode toward Mia and reached out to embrace her.
His hand caught nothing but air.
Mia stepped back, avoiding James's hand.
"Mia, it's not what you think. Amelia and I—"
James was about to explain when Mia interrupted him, "Hold out your hand."
James didn't understand, but he still cooperatively extended his hand.
Mia grabbed his wrist and, in front of Amelia, sprayed hand sanitizer on his palm.
The small portable bottle—she kept pressing it, spraying more than half of it.
Using this to vent her displeasure.
Even if it was to stop Amelia from getting handsy, the fact that he touched Amelia made her eyes hurt to see.
After spraying, she took a wet wipe and carefully wiped it all over, not even missing the spaces between his fingers.
She was clearly saying Amelia was a germ!
Dirty!
Amelia watched James's gaze, which had been fixed on Mia since she appeared.
Even though she was obviously humiliating her, he was allowing it.
Amelia angrily turned and walked toward her own room. If she stayed one more second, she was afraid she couldn't help but rush over and kill Mia!
Before she entered, she saw James lift Mia up by the waist, and as she wrapped her arms around his neck, he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Full of affection, and love that even he himself hadn't noticed.
It wasn't until James carried her into the room that Amelia closed her door, unable to come back to her senses for a long time.
She couldn't quite believe her own eyes.
Love?
James had actually fallen for Mia, that worthless woman!
She would never allow it!
She had to make James divorce Mia before he realized it himself!
