Chapter 84: Business Trip
He's the president of the Smith Group. Getting Amelia to leave would just be a matter of one word from him. It shouldn't be hard, right?
She knew that since she made her choice, she shouldn't keep dwelling on the fact that he liked Amelia.
But whenever she thought about how he saw Amelia every day, how she was always around him, it made her feel really uncomfortable.
James sat back down on the bed, looking at Mia. He wasn't angry at her unreasonable behavior. Instead, he looked at her and seriously explained.
"Mia, even though I'm the president of the Smith Group, I can't just fire people from the company randomly."
"Amelia got into the company on her own merit. She performs well at work and hasn't done anything wrong."
She had just joined the company and already led the marketing department to land a major deal.
He had no reason to fire Amelia just because of something Mia said.
He wasn't someone who mixed personal matters with business.
Rationally, Mia knew James had a point.
But—
Looking at Mia who was holding his hand and wouldn't let go, James held her hand and kissed it, promising her, "How about this - I promise you I won't be alone with Amelia anymore. Even if we're discussing work at the company, I'll have other people present."
What he meant was that things like taking Amelia to the hospital or giving her a ride to work wouldn't happen again.
"Okay."
Mia responded softly.
Though she still felt uncomfortable inside, since James had already made this promise, it would be too much if she kept pushing.
"You better keep your word. If you dare to have any intimate relationship with Amelia, I'll..."
"You'll what?"
James narrowed his eyes dangerously, looking at Mia with a warning in his gaze.
But Mia wasn't afraid of him.
Now that she had some confidence, she became that person again who could act however she wanted, relying on his affection.
"I'll stop wanting you and go find another man!"
James's face darkened. He suddenly moved closer, pushed Mia down, and half-covered her body with his. "Say that again?"
"I'll..."
Before she could finish, James silenced her with his mouth.
A domineering and forceful kiss that almost made Mia suffocate.
Pressing forward relentlessly.
Her back was against the bed with nowhere to escape.
She couldn't take his kissing anymore and kept hitting James.
"Stay away from Benjamin from now on."
Speaking of other men, James thought of Benjamin. After releasing her, he lowered his head and gave her lip a warning bite.
He couldn't stand her being close to any other man.
"No way!"
Mia ignored the threat in James's eyes. This was about her freedom to make friends - she wasn't going to compromise on that.
"Mia!"
James was clearly unhappy.
"James, you can't be like this. You can be friends with Amelia, so why can't I be friends with Benjamin?"
After meeting Benjamin, she realized her previous thinking was wrong.
Yes, having James meant she should reject anything ambiguous, but that didn't mean she couldn't have friends.
"He hugged you yesterday!"
Thinking of that scene, James's eyes turned cold again. He dared to touch Mia - that punch he threw was too light.
"He didn't! He was just standing behind me teaching me how to shoot the air gun!"
Mia looked at the jealous James and spoke with some resentment in her voice, "And you hit him for no reason."
James didn't respond.
He just got up with a cold face. Seeing he was unhappy, Mia reached out and grabbed his hand. "I'll also promise you that I'll keep my distance from Benjamin and won't let him touch me, okay?"
What he could do, she would do too.
"Fine."
It took James a while to reluctantly agree.
Mia knew James had compromised.
She stood up, wrapped her arms around James's neck, hung onto him, and kissed him on the lips.
James glanced at her. Was she this happy about being allowed to see Benjamin?
He didn't say much more, but when she was about to pull away, he held the back of her head and kissed her again.
His kiss quickly made her lose herself in it.
She obediently hung on his neck, kissing him back.
A deep look flashed in James's eyes, and the kiss grew deeper and deeper.
Mia, lost in the moment, didn't notice until he released her and sat her back down on the bed.
Mia felt weak all over, breathing heavily.
James looked at his handiwork with satisfaction, stood up, and ruffled her hair. "I'm going to the office."
"Okay."
When Mia spoke, she realized her mouth hurt. Only then did she realize that during the kiss, she thought she felt pain.
Usually when he kissed her, he didn't know his own strength and was often too intense. She hadn't paid attention, but now thinking about it...
Mia got up and rushed to the vanity, looking at her red and swollen lips, with her lower lip clearly bitten.
She angrily shouted at his back: "James, you jerk! How am I supposed to see people like this!"
James had almost reached the bedroom door. Hearing this, he turned to look at her.
That look made it obvious.
He just didn't want her going out to see people.
Mia was so angry she grabbed a pillow and threw it at James.
He disappeared through the doorway, and the pillow fell to the floor.
He made her so mad.
Outside the door, James's lips curved up, and he went downstairs in a good mood.
The servants downstairs breathed a sigh of relief when they saw this.
It was good that they'd made up.
...
A few days later, James came home right on time after work.
Mia was on the sofa knitting a little hat for the baby.
The hat was much harder than the little socks. She'd unraveled and reknitted it over and over, and still hadn't successfully finished one little hat.
She usually lost interest in things after three minutes, but when it came to knitting things for the baby, she was patient and never got tired of it.
James walked to the sofa and sat down next to her.
Looking at Mia who was focused on knitting and ignoring him, he reached out, grabbed her chin, and kissed her.
Mia glanced at the kitchen and bit his lip.
What was he doing!
He took the opportunity to deepen the kiss.
When the kiss ended, Mia rolled her eyes at James.
James's possessiveness was getting stronger and stronger.
Even when she paid more attention to the baby, he could get jealous about that.
James, having stolen a kiss, let her go and held her in his arms. "By the way, I have to go on a business trip to Harmony City tomorrow."
Mia, who was about to continue knitting the hat, stopped and instinctively asked, "Is Amelia going too?"
"No."
Mia knew her reaction was a bit much and changed the subject. "How many days will you be gone?"
"At least a week."
Hearing "at least a week," Mia immediately became unhappy.
She pressed her lips together, wrapped her arms around his neck, and buried her face in his chest.
She was very attached to him.
Being apart for a week - she was clearly reluctant.
"I'll go to the airport tomorrow to see you off."
She wanted to spend more time with him.
He hadn't even left yet, but she was already feeling uncomfortable about it.
"The airport is too far, you'll get tired. I'll try to come back as soon as I can."
James refused.
"Okay."
Mia wasn't shy anymore and just nestled in his arms.
After dinner, she spent the whole evening holding onto James as much as possible.
...
The next morning, James got up quietly, but still woke Mia.
She got up too and walked him all the way to the door, actively wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing him.
"If you keep kissing me, I won't be able to leave."
James pinched Mia's chin and gave her lip a light bite.
Mia kissed him one more time before pushing him out the door. She watched him get into the elevator before finally closing the door.
...
Airport
When James arrived at the airport, he went straight into the first-class lounge.
He sat down and ordered a coffee.
Then he heard Amelia's voice beside him. "James."
