Chapter 83: Let Amelia Leave the Company
Mia was so angry at James that her eyes turned red.
His forceful and dominating pursuit came to a halt.
She lifted her weak and powerless arms, propping them on either side of his body, trying to get up from his embrace.
Just as she climbed up, James pulled her back down again.
Her chin was once again gripped by his slender fingers, and James's perfectly flawless handsome face suddenly drew close.
Their eyes met.
Mia looked into James's deep, dark eyes and saw flames dancing in them—flames she knew all too well.
She understood exactly what they meant.
They were very close. His gaze swept over her moist, full lips, and his Adam's apple bobbed up and down.
His eyes returned to her face, looking at her.
This was clearly a threat.
In this area, she had never been a match for him.
No matter how much she resisted, he would forcefully continue kissing her.
He wouldn't give up until he got what he wanted.
Mia's nose tingled with grievance, and tears welled up in her eyes.
He was such a bully.
James was completely speechless.
He hadn't meant to make her cry.
He just wanted her to calm down and listen to him.
He reached out and pulled her back into his arms, his large hand soothingly patting her back. "Don't cry, it's my fault."
His gentle voice brought her back to last night.
When he'd sweetly called her "wife."
When her tears of grievance had streamed down, he had held her just like this, patting her back to comfort her.
Unable to control her emotions, tears rolled out from her eyes.
Mia grabbed James's pajamas and wiped away her stubborn tears!
She didn't care about his cleanliness obsession!
It would be even better if it bothered him!
She was upset, so why should he be comfortable!
You want to hold me?
Won't let me leave!
I'll let you hold me!
James felt the wet sensation and frowned, but he didn't push Mia away. After she stopped her venting actions, his large hand ruffled her hair. "Feel better now? Can you listen to me now?"
His tone suggested he didn't know what to do with her.
"What more do you have to say?" Mia lifted her head from his embrace, looking at James angrily. "James, I'm not blind! And I'm certainly not deaf!"
What was the point of him insisting on explaining?
"Are you going to deny that you arranged for Amelia to join your company, where you see each other day and night?"
Mia glared at James with red eyes, her face clearly saying: You wanted to explain? Go ahead!
She wanted to see what excuse he could come up with!
"She applied to the company on her own, went through the normal process. I didn't know about it beforehand." James looked at Mia with complete honesty.
Did he think he could get away with just saying he didn't know?
As if James could read her mind, just as she thought this, she saw him pick up his phone and open the company's internal system.
He pulled up Amelia's employment information and held it in front of Mia.
Mia looked at the date Amelia joined—it was when he was at the hospital taking care of her.
She didn't look closely.
Amelia's overly impressive resume made her not want to look at it any longer.
Feeling even more uncomfortable, Mia's tone became somewhat aggressive. "Even if you didn't know at first, after you found out, why didn't you fire her immediately? When it comes down to it, you still want to see her all the time. Just like Mabel said, you can't be away from her for even a second, you want to see her every day..."
"Mia!" James tossed his phone aside, his eyes taking on a sharp edge as he interrupted Mia, reminding her to watch her words. "I keep work and personal life separate, and I have a clear conscience!"
At the mention of Mabel, a flash of hostility crossed James's eyes.
Mabel had run away pretty fast.
Mia was so angry at James's righteous appearance that she laughed!
"What a great 'keeping work and personal life separate' and 'clear conscience'!"
How could he have the nerve to say he kept things separate and had a clear conscience!
"You mean Amelia is just an ordinary employee at your company, right?"
James didn't know what she was getting at, but that was the truth. From the day Amelia joined, he had only treated her as an ordinary employee.
He nodded slightly. "Yes!"
He actually dared to say it!
She had always thought James wouldn't lie.
This wasn't about not lying—he could lie without even blinking!
"Does an ordinary employee need you, the CEO of the Smith Group, to personally pick her up from her apartment complex?"
"Her leg was injured—"
Mia angrily interrupted James. "Right, and because it was inconvenient for her to come downstairs herself, you could go upstairs and personally carry this ordinary employee down.
At the company entrance, if I hadn't shown up and ruined your plans, you would have carried her straight into the company, wouldn't you?
James, is this how you keep work and personal life separate and maintain a clear conscience?!"
"I didn't!"
James was truly speechless this time!
He really hadn't expected Mia to think this way. He usually told her to read fewer trashy books, but she wouldn't listen!
Watching Mia get so worked up by her own imagination that her eyes reddened again and tears were about to fall, he reached up and affectionately pinched her nose. "Stop making things up!"
She hadn't been this prone to crying before.
And she had just cried, so her nose was full of snot.
With that pinch, he got a handful of it.
James was completely speechless.
Mia watched James's face darken and couldn't help but mutter, "Serves you right!"
James was furious.
Holding Mia, he leaned over to grab a tissue to wipe his hand, and after cleaning it, he naturally helped her wipe her nose clean too.
He tossed the tissue into the nearby trash can and turned his gaze back to her face.
He explained concisely, "At the apartment complex, the caregiver helped her. At the company entrance—"
James unlocked his phone again and opened a text to Aaron: "Arrange for someone to help Ms. Martinez."
It was indeed a text from yesterday morning.
He couldn't fake the text, and as for the apartment complex...
"The complex has surveillance cameras. We can pull the footage anytime."
James had her next thought figured out perfectly.
Mia was completely speechless.
With things laid out this clearly, she knew she had imagined too much.
But who wouldn't overthink after seeing those scenes, especially since Amelia was the person he liked.
Mia bit her lip.
This was always the thorn in her heart. She had kept telling herself that as long as James could truly keep his distance from Amelia.
She would be willing to give him time and would try hard to make him focus his heart on her and their child.
But still...
"What's wrong?"
James noticed something was off with Mia's emotions and asked gently, his thumb lightly brushing over her lips to stop her from biting them.
Who knew Mia would suddenly open her mouth and bite his finger.
Her eyes still glaring at him, clearly upset.
James didn't pull back, letting her bite. "Talk to me."
Seeing she wouldn't listen.
His thumb teased her soft tongue, lightly scratching it.
Mia immediately let go sensitively.
"So I'm going to the office now?"
He had already been delayed for half an hour. James held her chin and kissed her moist, full lips.
It was a feint. Mia immediately grabbed his wrist and said rapidly, "James, make Amelia leave your company."
