Chapter 151: Will Not Forgive
James's heart ached beyond words as he watched Mia, whose body trembled continuously from the overwhelming grief of mentioning their child.
He stepped forward, raising both arms, wanting to pull her into an embrace.
The moment Mia sensed him approaching, she coldly brushed away his outstretched hands.
She sniffled, raised her hand to wipe away the tears covering her face again, then slowly lifted her head. With reddened eyes fixed on him, she let out a cold laugh. "Sorry?"
Her gaze locked onto James's pain-filled face.
"James, what good is your sorry?"
"Can you bring our baby back to me?"
Sorry was the most useless thing in this world.
If sorry actually worked, she would want to say it to their baby countless times too, so the baby could come back to her.
But once a mistake was made, what was lost was lost forever.
The baby wouldn't come back, and her heart had completely died.
The baby would never forgive them as irresponsible parents, and she would never forgive James or herself.
In her view, this was something that could never be changed. The truth no longer mattered to her.
Mia buried her heartache bit by bit back into the deepest part of her heart.
She reined in her out-of-control emotions.
Her gaze at James slowly returned to coldness, as calm as if she were looking at a stranger.
She could finally truly face James with indifference.
This James she once loved deeply—back then, even when he cheated during their marriage, even though she knew she couldn't forgive him, she would still waver at his attempts to win her back.
She would hesitate, she would soften.
But now, she could face all his gestures that used to make her soften with complete indifference. Not just on the surface—even her heart remained unmoved.
Actually, from the moment he misunderstood her, when he tortured her because of that misunderstanding, she had countless chances to tell James that she had lied.
But she didn't want to say it, and wasn't willing to.
Because she knew that back then, she wasn't strong enough yet, couldn't truly treat James with indifference.
Unable to make him let her go, forced to stay by his side, she chose to be tortured by him.
It was like borrowing his hands to let him personally cut away, slice by slice, bit by bit, the remaining feelings for him at the bottom of her heart.
Until her heart truly turned to dead ashes.
Only this way could she truly break free from James, and only then could she have her own new life afterward.
Hurt completely, pain taken to the extreme.
Only then would she learn her lesson and no longer have any attachment to this marriage.
She wouldn't look back. She could truly be reborn.
Hearing Mia's words, a glimmer of hope ignited in James's ashen eyes.
With expectation in his voice, he said to her, "Mia, we can. Starting today, I won't use protection anymore. We can have another child..."
Mia loved children so much—having another child could heal the pain of losing their baby.
She could move on from the pain of losing their child.
And the mistakes he made, he would spend his whole life making up for them.
Mia looked at James's expectant face.
Her smile grew colder.
Without mercy, she shattered his hope. "James, give up on that idea. I already told you—I won't make the same mistake twice."
Her attitude about having children with him had been made clear before.
If he didn't use protection, she would take pills.
One child's sin was enough.
She wouldn't allow herself to make the same mistake again.
His affair during their marriage—she couldn't forgive it.
The fact that their child died in her womb because of his affair was an unresolvable knot at the bottom of her heart.
He and she had long reached a dead end. It was just his twisted possessiveness that made him unwilling to let go.
Having said what needed to be said, Mia turned to continue upstairs.
She had come back to change clothes. She still had class tonight.
"Mia!"
Before she could go upstairs, James blocked her again, gripping her hand on the stair railing. Lowering himself to the humblest position, he begged her.
"Mia, just forgive me this once. Give me one last chance. Let's start over, okay?"
Mia looked coldly at James, unmoved by his pleading.
She pried his large hand away finger by finger, pulled back her own hand, and said to him with a cold expression, "James, don't talk to me about forgiveness. I won't forgive you."
She spoke each sentence slowly, expressing her determination not to forgive.
After speaking, she pushed him aside.
She brushed past him, went upstairs, and entered the side bedroom.
She slammed the door shut—inside and outside the door, two different worlds.
She shut him out of her heart's door.
