Chapter 103: Divorce Agreement
She was led into the lawyer's office. After exchanging greetings, he got straight to the point and pushed a document across the desk toward Mia.
"Ms. Wilson, this is the divorce agreement drafted according to your requirements from this morning. Please take a look and see if there's anything that needs to be added or changed."
Mia reached out, took it, and opened it.
After reading through it carefully and confirming everything, she said to the lawyer, "No, it's fine."
As she spoke, she picked up the pen beside her, ready to sign without giving herself any room to turn back.
"Ms. Wilson, are you sure you only want..."
As her lawyer, he felt it necessary to explain James's financial situation to her.
When he learned her husband was James, and then saw the divorce agreement she'd requested, he was completely shocked.
He seriously suspected that this Mia didn't know James's true identity.
Otherwise, how could she only ask for a hundred thousand dollars?
That was an ordinary amount even in ordinary people's eyes.
His face was full of confusion.
Given James's status in Imperial City, a hundred thousand dollars wouldn't even cover his bar tab for one night of entertaining.
Did she have some misunderstanding about James's wealth?
"I'm sure."
Mia looked up and firmly interrupted the lawyer.
She knew what Mr. Fang meant.
But she didn't want it.
She didn't want to be entangled with James anymore.
When Amelia appeared and she first mentioned divorce to him, she had been so reluctant, easily appeased.
The second time, she was firm verbally, but deep down she was still full of reluctance, which is why she knowingly did the impossible. Not giving up until hitting the wall, not giving up until completely hurt, she chose to give him one more chance.
Now, her heart was dead.
There was no possibility of turning back.
Cheating only has two states: zero times and countless times.
She would absolutely never repeat the same mistake and give James another chance to disgust her.
She just wanted a divorce. She didn't want to see James anymore.
He was too dirty!
Even looking at him one more time made her feel sick enough to vomit.
So she only asked for an amount that James wouldn't even consider money.
Before she found a job, she needed some money to rent a place and maintain a normal life for herself and her child.
In the future, she would work hard to support herself and her child.
She would work hard!
Suppressing the sourness rising in her nose, Mia signed her name in the required column.
"Please send this to the Smith Group for me, express delivery."
"Okay."
Seeing her mind was made up, the lawyer said nothing more. He pressed the intercom to call his assistant and handed over the divorce agreement. The assistant took it and left.
Mia stood up. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Lyle Warner also stood up and saw her out.
As Mia left the law firm and reached the ground floor, she saw an express courier pass by her.
Soon, the courier carrying her divorce agreement quickly disappeared from her sight.
Mia slowly withdrew her gaze. From last night until now, she had barely eaten anything.
She knew clearly that continuing like this wasn't good for the baby.
Getting into a car service, she blurted out the name of a restaurant James used to take her to often. The food there was really good.
Some habits are ingrained in your bones.
Mia wasn't so pretentious as to immediately quit these small habits in her life.
Soon, she arrived at the restaurant. As soon as she appeared, a server led her to a seat.
Mia didn't think much of it. After sitting down, without looking at the menu, she directly ordered her favorite dishes.
The food came quickly. Mia had just ladled herself a bowl of soup and taken a few sips when she heard an appetite-killing conversation behind her.
It was Amelia and her friends.
"Amelia, how are things progressing with you and Mr. Smith?"
"What progress? I told you, James and I are just friends!"
"Come on, still pretending in front of us? I heard that last night Mr. Smith went home with you. A man and woman alone together in a room, the whole night—don't tell me you two just chatted under the covers?"
"Exactly. What's this? You think covering it up means we can't see? So many love marks. I never thought Mr. Smith would be so passionate with you."
The woman sitting beside Amelia said with a mischievous smile, lowering her voice.
"Is Mr. Smith good? How many times did you two have sex last night? I heard that this morning Mr. Smith even ordered your favorite breakfast for you..."
"That's enough, you two. Stop talking."
Amelia's tone was coy as she interrupted them.
"Okay, okay, we won't say anymore."
The conversation paused for only a few seconds before starting up again. "Amelia, what exactly is Mr. Smith planning? You two have already missed so many years, and now he's already with you..."
Amelia let out an affected sigh. "Although James and I truly love each other, as you know, James's wife is pregnant now. He really cares about the child, so I don't want to pressure him..."
Mia originally hadn't wanted to pay attention to Amelia.
She felt that when a man cheats and betrays you during marriage, there's no need to put all the blame on the mistress.
If her own man didn't give the opportunity, the mistress couldn't succeed either.
She didn't want to become the kind of woman who, when her husband cheats, doesn't blame the man but pushes all the fault onto the mistress.
This was between her and James.
But...
That didn't mean Amelia could deliberately come disgust her.
This seating arrangement was obviously because Amelia saw her appear outside the restaurant and specially arranged it for her, right?
She thought so—she had clearly been walking in the other direction, so how did they lead her here?
Waiting for her here, were they?
Mia drank the last sip of soup from her bowl, slowly stood up, picked up the remaining half pot of soup, walked to Amelia's table, and poured it directly over her head.
Amelia, who had been showing off enthusiastically, was suddenly drenched in soup. She screamed and stood up.
Although the soup wasn't scalding hot, it was still quite hot. Poured from above, it burned her face red.
Amelia looked down at her disheveled state. She wanted to brush it off but found it disgusting. Her eyes blazing with fury, she looked at Mia in exasperation. "Mia, are you crazy?"
Today, she'd been upset by James's attitude and didn't want to go to the company, so she took the day off and met friends for lunch.
She hadn't expected to run into Mia by chance.
James wanted to cover up last night, and she'd been thinking about how to tell Mia.
And here was the opportunity.
She thought Mia would immediately break down and rush to the company to confront James.
James was such a face-conscious person.
Comparing the two—her understanding and tactfulness this morning versus Mia's shrewish hysteria.
The scales in James's heart would naturally tip toward her.
But she really hadn't expected Mia to dare come confront her alone.
Before, she only dared to yell a few words in front of her because she had a servant protecting her.
Now, how did she dare?
Mia looked coldly at the disheveled Amelia. Her two companions reacted and stood up to help. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Get away, don't touch me!"
Mia threw the empty bowl in her hand directly at their feet, scaring them into quickly stepping back.
She turned her head, her gaze fierce as she glanced at the two of them. Don't touch her, don't try to hurt her and her child.
What she said to Mabel at Luxe Hideaway wasn't just talk. The child was her life. Whoever dared hurt her baby, she would fight them to the death!
That look scared the two into collapsing back into their seats, not daring to move again.
No one could hurt her and her child anymore.
Including James, and including these people in front of her.
Her gaze returned to Amelia, and she laughed mockingly, her face full of contempt.
The commotion here attracted the attention of everyone in the restaurant. Mia didn't lower her voice, directly humiliating her in public, leaving her no dignity.
"Amelia, so you do know James has a wife, and she's pregnant. You climbed into his bed while his wife was pregnant. How shameless can you be to show off such behavior?"
