Just as Marcellus finished his words, the car pulled to a stop.
Marcellus' assistant, Ethan Duncan, had been silently sitting in the front seat. When the car halted, Ethan exited and opened the car door for Scarlette, politely gesturing for her to get down.
"The City Hall?"
Realizing where they had arrived at, Scarlette forcefully pinched her arm in disbelief and she immediately grimaced in pain.
Wasn't... Wasn't this escalating a little too quickly?
She was barely ready for marriage yet. Besides, it seemed to her that Marcellus was basically trying to force her into it.
Scarlette intended to back down, but Ethan walked over and called her with a smile, "Miss Rowling."
"I-I didn't bring my dirving license along," Scarlette anxiously found an excuse for herself.
After all, she hadn't heard from anyone that going on a blind date would lead to getting married right after!
Ethan remained smiling and led Scarlette into the building. "It's all right."
Ethan's actions made Scarlette feel as if she had no way to escape. She then turned around and gazed at Marcellus, who was still seated in the car.
Recalling his expression moments ago, she shuddered to wonder if Marcellus would end her if she ran away.
Hence, Scarlette had no choice but to bite the bullet and follow Ethan into the City Hall.
In less than ten minutes, Scarlette came out of the City Hall with a marriage certificate in her hands.
It looked particularly dazzling under the sun.
Scarlette patted her cheek, still feeling like she was in a dream.
She had actually gotten herself married to Marcellus. Neither her driving license nor her spouse was needed for the process. She had become a married woman just like that.
It was all beyond her imagination.
Scarlette didn't come back to her senses until Marcellus got out of the car and walked up to her.
He took the marriage certificate from Ethan and kept it in his suit pocket.
Then, he looked at Scarlette and said, "I have an urgent meeting to attend to later. Ethan will send you home, and I will go to visit your parents after I'm done with my work."
Scarlette could only accept her fate and nodded.
Marcellus did not say anything else. He turned around and headed towards the intersection. He hailed a taxi and disappeared out of sight.
Scarlette was lost in her thoughts. Even though the whole situation seemed bizarre, she could not do anything to change it. She was married to Marcellus Yeager, the man whom every woman in Julesburg desired!
Ethan opened the car door for Scarlette and said, "Madam, please enter the car."
Madam?
Scarlette was pulled back to reality by her new title. She peered at Ethan in embarrassment and nodded in acknowledgment before getting into the car.
"Madam, this is my business card. My phone number is on it. If you need anything in the future, feel free to call me at any time." As he spoke, Ethan turned around and handed his business card to Scarlette.
Ethan was Marcellus' private assistant. His ranking was quite high in the company and he could be the indirect superior of Scarlette.
Scarlette was a little nervous to see Ethan handing her his business card. She took it with both hands and muttered, "Thank you, Chancellor... "
But before she could finish speaking, Scarlette realized that something was wrong and immediately stopped herself.
The title 'Chancellor Duncan' was Ethan's nickname given by the employees at the company. It meant that if Marcellus was the Emperor, Ethan would be the Chancellor.
"Madam, you don't have to be so polite with me," Ethan told her respectfully.
Seeing Ethan being so friendly to her, Scarlette gulped and kept quiet.
She felt that this day was like a dream, especially the fact that she was married to Ethan after a three-hour blind date.
Thinking about it again, she felt that she was too impulsive. It was not right for her to follow Marcellus' orders obediently just because he was her boss. She didn't know how to explain it to her mother when she got home later.
