CHAPTER 46

CHAPTER 46
BLAIR

"Are you having indecent thoughts again?" Deborah asks, coming up beside me.

"Again," I say without shame.

"Girl, if I had a man like yours, I assure you I would be riding him all the time," she says, making sure no one overhears us.

"And after what he did to me, would you still be on top of him?" I ask, somewhat angry.

"He didn't do it directly to you, darling, and besides, I'm almost one hundred percent sure that bitch is lying," she says, moving forward with the cart.

"Well, I think this is everything," I see the shopping cart is almost full.

"I think so too. You have food for the next three days."

"Of course, it's not for three days' worth of portions," I say indignantly.

"Well, four then."

"Well, I have an alpha to feed, and Bassi said it was normal."

"Yes, it's normal for you to eat a lot, but not to eat like a battalion," the sarcasm is more than noticeable.

"It's not true, I don't eat like a battalion."

We reach the checkout counter, and there I remember something.

"You know what we forgot?"

"What?" she says as she places the items on the conveyor belt.

"My ice cream."

"Go get it while I finish putting all this," she says, waiting for the belt to clear.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, go ahead, Elliot shouldn't take long to come in."

"I'll get the ice cream and be back."

"Alright," without saying anything else, she focuses again on putting the items on the belt.

I walk through the aisles to find the frozen section, honestly, I have ice cream at home, but I'm not going to waste this trip to the supermarket. I need to buy ice cream, maybe a tub of strawberries and another one of coffee.

I reach the frozen section and start looking for my ice cream, starting with the coffee flavor, which honestly is the one I like the most. I remember that Dalton doesn't like it as much because he says it's too sweet or sugary.

"Just out of obligation, I offer my best wishes," a voice says beside me, which at first doesn't register, but when I turn my head, I find the woman I dislike the most, and that's saying something considering I've only seen her once."

Evangeline Lewis, Elsa's mother.

"I would say it's a pleasure to see you, but that would be a complete lie," I say as I turn around to face her.

"You know, Luna, it's funny to think that even if your child is born, they will never be an alpha," she mocks. "Because, of course, my grandson will be the alpha."

I let out a completely fake laugh.

"It's quite amusing, Evangeline, really," my smirking smile doesn't fade. "Because it's clear that you don't have alpha blood because if you did, you would know well that alpha she-wolves give birth before vixens," my smile doesn't leave me.

Mostly referring to Elsa, and she knows it because her face could swear she turns red.

"And besides, even if your grandson were born first, don't forget one thing, Evangeline, your grandson will never cease to be something. And you know what that is?"

"What is it, if I may ask?" she says with a furious face.

"A bastard," I say, emphasizing the last word. "Because even if Dalton acknowledges that baby as his under human law, to our people, our pack, our town, to everyone, your grandson will always be that," I say harshly and without any laughter. "A BASTARD," I emphasize the word even more.

With those final words, I turn around and walk straight to the exit, burning with anger. I think I could kill someone with my bare hands right now.

DALTON

I place the thick log on the ground and let out a sigh. This one was big. I wipe the sweat off my forehead with the shirt I had taken off earlier, so now I'm bare-chested from the waist up.

I look back and see all the pups carrying logs on their backs from the depths of the forest. That's our work in this town, what we dedicate ourselves to, and even though I know I'm their alpha, I enjoy doing it too—it's like a test.

Nick comes to my side and sets his log on the ground, letting out a tired sigh.

"I'll tell you something, I hate how fresh you look after bringing ten of these from the forest," he says, pointing at the logs.

"Alphas endure more," I say casually.

He nods slightly and puts his hands on his hips.

"And what about you, future dad? I talked to Deborah, and she says our prince is growing."

"Yes, he's getting bigger every day. I hear his heartbeat from a greater distance; I know it sounds stupid, but I can feel it, you know? The moment I come home, it's not just Blair there, he's there too."

"Sir," says a girl whom I know is Deborah's assistant, arriving breathlessly. "Alpha, Beta," she says, bowing her head.

"What's the matter?" I ask with a stern tone, as she interrupted us.

"Mr. Lewis wants to see you, sir," she says, still catching her breath.

"Lewis... Elsa... damn it," I run towards the office, and Nick follows behind me.

"Call Elliot, I want you to find Blair. I don't want her to meet the Lewises under any circumstances," I tell Nick as he takes a different path.

I enter the office, and there's Mr. Lewis, the only one I genuinely like from that family.

"Alpha," he says, extending his hand.

"Mr. Lewis," I say, shaking it.

"I apologize for interrupting you on a workday," he says as he sees me take a shirt out of the drawer and put it on.

"Yes, you know that's what we do here," I say sarcastically. "Are you here alone?"

"No, my wife is accompanying me."

That bitch.

"Let's get straight to the point. What brings you here apart from the obvious?"

"My son Edward will take on the role of alpha in a few months."

"Good for him," I say harshly because, to be honest, this conversation doesn't excite me.

"The point is, I need to know what will happen to my grandson."

"What do you mean?"

"You know very well what I mean. What's going to happen? I know our Luna is expecting the alpha prince, but what about my grandson?" he says, looking me straight in the eyes.

"Your grandson won't lack anything; I will acknowledge him as my son," I simply say.

"I'm not talking about financial matters. My daughter can take care of that; we don't need you for the money," he says angrily.

"Look, Mr. Lewis, with all due respect for being older than me and for the friendship you had with my father," I stand up to be more forceful. "I'm not going to abandon my Luna for your daughter. Your daughter knew from the moment she met me that I wasn't her mate. She wanted to play with fire, and she got burned."

"My son will ensure that nothing is lacking for her. As for what you're demanding regarding the pack, only the moon itself will determine that."

There's a knock on the door, and Nick enters without waiting for me to invite him.

"Alpha, it's late. They have met."

"Damn it," I say, now truly angry. "I want your wife out of my territory," I tell Mr. Lewis. "Now!" But that last part is directed at Nick.

I want her gone. I want them to stop messing with my family.

For once, we were doing fine, three months of calm, and now this.

BLAIR

I slam the car door shut and walk towards home.

"My Luna needs to calm down," Elliot's voice says from behind me.

"Get out of my house," I say, trying to catch my breath.

Damn, the moment that woman set foot on my land. Before, I hadn't wanted to do anything against her, but now she'll pay for it. Coming to my territory and telling me that my son won't be the alpha takes a lot of nerve, especially on my turf.

"Darling, you need to calm down. You might harm the baby," Deborah says.

"Tell me, Deborah, if they do this to me, what will they do to my son?" I say through gritted teeth.

"Darling, this..." She's left speechless.

Because there are no words to describe this situation. I'm fed up with this; I don't want to continue with this anymore. I want to kill that family. First, for meddling in my life, and second, for bringing out the worst in me. I had never labeled that little one as a bastard, let alone said it out loud.

I won't let these women harm my son. I don't care what I have to do.

"Leave, please," I say, trying to breathe calmly.

"Darling, you can't be alone," Deborah tries to convince me.

"Go away! Get out of my house!" I say, walking forward and asserting my presence.

I turn around and start climbing the stairs. I hope that when I come back down, they're no longer in my house. I need to be alone. I need to be alone to calm down and think of something to do.

Finally, I reach the top of the stairs and enter our bedroom. Out of nowhere, a surge of strength overwhelms me, and I completely overturn one of the nightstands, causing the drawers to fall out along with their contents. I run a hand through my hair in frustration. I look at the mess on the floor and carefully squat down to start picking up.

I pick up a book, and I see that it's the one Alexander gave me for my birthday. That was a day before I met Dalton. I flip through the pages until I stop at something tucked between them. I pull it out, and it's an envelope with a broken seal. I open it and find a ticket inside.

A ticket to Russia.

This could be a sign. A sign that I've endured enough, that it's time to think about myself and my son. A sign that it's time to leave, to abandon everything I've tried to build here.

An epiphany. This is a destiny epiphany.

I stand up and walk to the closet. I take out the suitcases from the top and place them on the bed.
