Chapter 18

He was angry.

He must have been startled by my impulsive actions.

I started to blame myself.

After staying in the office for a while, I still couldn't understand why I had voluntarily kissed him, why I had such a strong desire to possess him.

But I knew that he had rejected me, and he was very angry.

I felt defeated.

About half an hour later, I went out with a better mood and discovered that Jason was not there.

A group of people were discussing it.

"He went out with his sister-in-law."

"Boss probably won't come again today."

"Why?" I asked them.

"Why else? They haven't seen each other in a year, where's the energy to come again," they replied.

"It seems like they're really getting back together."

The group burst into laughter.

I stood on the side, feeling my scalp tingle as I listened.

"Rachel, since you're here, could you guys tone down your jokes," Uncle Bear thought I was just shy.

Little did he know, I was jealous.

"Rachel, you haven't eaten, where are you going?" Uncle Bear called to me, but I just walked away.

I returned to the rented house, and Jason wasn't home.

I became even more annoyed.

I didn't have a phone, and I didn't know how to find him.

That's how I ended up going crazy, staying at home and going to his room, frantically searching through his things, hoping to find something that woman left behind.

But I found nothing.

Finally, at the top of his bedside cabinet, I found an unopened box.

Looking at the expiration date, it was recent, and my heart sank.

So, he knew she would come back to find him, and he had already prepared for it?

Saying things like "wait until you grow up" was just a lie.

He had always treated me like a child.

Taking care of me was nothing more than using me as leverage to make my dad pay back the money.

Everything was just my imagination.

Just the thought of it made it hard for me to breathe.

He didn't come back until it was dark.
