An insightful ally

Carmina replied suspiciously .

"The young lady is right , we have a lot to gain if we accept their offer . But we also have a lot to lose , so if she wants to join the team we must all agree on this decision "

Said Grandpa looking at us expectantly , while the coyote and Sasha met with a serious gesture in their eyes .

"I would accept him joining us if he is looking for another place to live on his own , I think there are already many of us in the manor "

"Living somewhere else outside the mansion , does not seem to me a wise idea ."

I disagree Carmina , reaffirming her unyielding stance of dominance .

"I am the woman of this house and I do not find it prudent for a stranger to live inside my house ."

Sasha's annoyance towards Carmina was evident , two women against each other was not the atmosphere that suited an alliance like this .

"Stop the two of you arguing , we just had a fight and I don't want to start another one . I think that if we are going to seal this alliance with a new member the right thing to do is to give him his space and his own independence "

Said the grandfather calming the tension generated in both .

"It seems to me the fairest thing to do , being allies in a battle does not mean that we should all sleep in the same place all together" Sasha Espeto .

"I agree with Sasha , being under the same roof can lead us all to a rather irritating position and that does not suit us ."

Coyote slyly supported Sara's point as Grandpa paced back and forth trying to resolve the situation .

"All right, then Carmina will live in the cabin next to the mansion and will have the necessary servants and comforts to make her stay more pleasant."

Grandfather looked for a moment at Carmina , waiting for a gesture of approval to his proposal . She looked at all of us silently for a few moments .

"I accept I do not want to abuse more of his flexible character , nor of the patience of all" .

We all let out a sigh of relief as we heard Carmina's coherent words for the first time .

"It is interesting your father's negotiating skills . You should learn more from him , in all these decades of existence you have never learned to negotiate with me and neither to be less haughty and challenging "

Carmina commented , looking ironically at the coyote displaying a radiant smile . The coyote looked at her and limited himself to make no comment .

"Samanta please tell the butlers to rearrange the guest cabin, the lady will be our guest for a reasonable time".

Samantha walked towards us and made a small bow as a sign of obedience to grandfather's order, and set out to find the butlers to get the cabin ready. While another group of servants were preparing to restore the dining room, which had been almost in ruins after the fight with Carmina.

"If you'll excuse me I think I'll go out and get some fresh air , it's been a pretty intense time , and I need to climb a couple of trees to come to my senses ."

They all looked at me carefully , and I was waiting for a quick approval to withdraw to go and visit my mother . I could not raise the slightest suspicion in front of Carmina that I had a family member dependent on my care , otherwise she would know much of my weakness in a vulnerable moment she could use it against me . It is true that I have been completely naive up to now, and that is why I have made so many mistakes. But I was willing to change that and start becoming as cunning as a snake and as meek as a dove only then could I survive in this over-natural world so toxic .

"It's okay , you can go . Just be cautious , we don't want any more surprises ."

I commented wryly the coyote , surely he had been rummaging through my thoughts once again and knew I had planned to go visit my mother . But he was right for some strange reason every time I left the mansion I only brought trouble .

I guess after becoming a vampire what I have taken in strength I have gained in enemies and an attachment to bad company . I grabbed my jacket from the dining room floor and turned to leave the mansion.

I didn't feel like flying over the trees, this time I wanted a more human experience that would take me back to my earthly glory days, so I slyly walked to the front of the mansion, and headed towards one of the sheds where there was a wide range of grandfather's cars and motorcycles, I mounted one of the motorcycles and set out to start it without keys, one of the many things I had learned in school.

I quickly left the shed driven by the fierce engine and the confidence that gave me to pretend I was an ordinary human, I felt free and able to accomplish anything I set my mind to. To save my parents, to be the most conscientious immortal being and to end the reign of Araticus, without a doubt those were my new standards in this new life that destiny had decided to give me.

The wind was brushing my translucent skin and for a few moments I did not worry about the sun rising at dawn, I had already read that it was not going to burn me, it was only going to make me look like what I really was a monster and at that moment I did not worry about looking like one, since we were only the motorcycle, the road and me. Feeling the sun on my skin was not the same as feeling human , apparently feeling warm was just a memory that I had to treasure
