Chapter 39

Chapter 39
Willa

These asshole just ruined my wedding. Sure it was thrown together last minute and it was to a guy I just met a couple days ago, but it was my wedding for god sake! So I am pissed the hell of right now. I can’t tell you the satisfaction I feel hearing the sound of pain every time I shoot one of those assholes. Right now I’m glad I spent all that time in firing range.

“We have back up incoming!” Maxim calls out to me from the pillar next to mine.

“Back up?” I call back but another bullet goes past his head.

I’m done. “Cover me!” I call out to anyone close by.

I lean out from the pillar and spot several dark SUVs driving down the road leading to the house. Who the hell are these guys?

Bullets ping off the cars as they speed toward us. They split apart when the reach the large front area of the house basically creating a wall of protection. Then over a dozen men climb out with guns ready and start firing.

“Time to go.” Luke comes out of nowhere and grabs my hand.

“Wait! We need to wait for Lan.” I tell him because I know he’s inside somewhere.

“He’s coming. Get your ass in the car Willa.” He gives me a stern look and even though I have an urge to refuse him I don’t.

Being a pain in the ass trying to prove I can fight just as well as them isn’t going to help right. Right now their focus is getting me out of harms way and the more I fight that the more danger im putting us all in. So I do as he says and make a dash for one of the SUVs. Shots are going off everywhere, but Luke and I make it to the car closest to us and che slides in first putting me away from the window. I climb in next and keep my gun ready in case. My eyes shoot toward where Maxim had been hiding and I almost laugh at the way he saunters toward us with a sit eating grin on his face. Like there isn’t a shoot out going on right now.

Honestly I think I might actually like his crazy ass.

“Stop being an idiot and get in the fucking car!” Luke yells out to him.

Maxim rolls his eyes and jogs the rest of the way to climb in on my other side.

“The others are on their way.” He says before grabbing me around the waist and setting me on his lap. “Hello wife.”

“What are you so cocky about? You nearly got a bullet to the head half a dozen times back there.” I remind him with a smirk.

His smile widens. “It was an act so that those ass holes know better than to take on my woman.”

“Our woman.” Luke says.

“She’s mine today Lukey Boy.” Maxim sends Luke a smile before tugging my hair and slamming his lips on mine.

Our teeth knock a little but he does’t seem to mind as he kisses me like this might be the last time he ever does. He pulls back and kisses me on the tip of my nose before releasing me. My head is spinning a little but I clear my throat and try to hide the effect that kiss just had on me. These damn men sure know how to get me worked up and now is not the time.

“Where-“ My question is cut off when the front passenger door flies open and Sebastian climbs in.

“Dammit.” He growls as he crawls over the center of the seats to get into the driver’s seat. “We got more coming.”

“What the fuck? Where are they coming from?” Luke asks.

“I don’t know, but we need to go.” The car was still running so he puts it into gear. “Where the hell is Lan?”

We watch the open doorway for any sign of him, but nothing.

“We need to go get him.” I say and start to attempt to climb over Maxim.

“Oh, no wifey. You keep your cute ass where it is. He’s on his way.”

I glare at him but I catch movement and see Lan jogging our way. He climbs into the car, and Sebastian immediately takes off.

“We’ll need to go the back way,” Lan says.

“You think?” Luke yells as Sebastian takes off.

We all slam into each other as he drives over the decorative stones near the house and basically bulldozes a decorative bush to get us to the back side of the house.

“It’s a shame this place was compromised. I hate to destroy it.” Lan says.

“What?” I watch him start typing on a tablet.

“Disperse guys. Your job is done.” He says.

He must be talking to the men who came to help us.

“Wait until we pass the tree line,” Sebastian says.

“What are you two talking about?” I ask getting a little annoyed at being left out of the loop.

“We’re going to have to find you a new house. Sorry baby girl.” Luke gives me an apologetic look.

I’m confused until we pass through the gazebo where I’d just gotten married and into the wooded area behind the house. This place is huge! Then I hear it…and feel it.

A loud explosion goes off behind us. I whirl around in my seat and my stomach drops. Rubble and fire shoot in every direction.

“You blew up the house?” My voice comes out with a screech that makes Luke cringe. “Are you crazy?”

“It was compromised. We can’t leave any trace behind.” Lan says.

I blink at him still in shock. He just blew up a house and he acts like it's nothing! Honestly, I have no idea why I'm surprised, but the fact that the beautiful house I'd just been standing in is going to be nothing but rubble.

“I swear Lan, if you blow up the next house I’m not talking to you for a week,” I say and slump back into my seat.

“Don’t worry wifey. I won’t let him.” Maxim says before leaning in and kissing my cheek.

I wave him off because I’m a little annoyed now. My wedding was ruined by a shootout, and now the house the guys picked is rubble. It’s been a hell of a day, and I think I have every right to be annoyed. On top of that, I had to ruin my dress!

Remember that has me taking a quick look at myself. I’m a mess. Dirt and…blood?

Crap. I look myself over and try to figure out where the blood has come from. With everything going on I forgot I was injured. My eyes land on my arm and I curse under my breath. I turn my arm to get a better look and blow out a breath. It’s not too serious but it's still bleeding.

“Lan take off your shirt,” I say as I prod the area a bit more.

“What?” He asks looking over his shoulder at me.

All the guys are watching me now. I glance between them and roll my eyes.

“I need to bind this until I can get it looked at. You weren’t in the firefight so your shirt is probably the cleanest.” I explain.

Curses ring around the car and the guys all start moving and talking at once. Lan pulls his shirt off and passes it to Luke.

“Be careful with her!” Sebastian growls as Maxim takes my arm and looks over the wound with a frown.

I have to bite back a laugh as they all squawk like panicking chickens. The injury isn’t severe but they’re all panicking as if my arm is about to fall off any second.

“Guys! I’m fine!” I try to catch their attention but they’re too distracted by my "fatal" injury to hear me.

Men.
