Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Maxim
These fuckers are dead for messing up my wedding.
“Maybe you should wait here, wife.” I attempt to protect my new wife but she gives me a look that says she isn’t about to be left behind. “Fine but at least stay close until we know what we’re up against. No dying on our wedding day.”
She rolls her eyes and pulls out the gun Luke gave her. It's small but it’s something. Luke comes running back through the double doors looking pissed as hell.
“They took out the car. We have about ten in the tree line.” He says.
“Just ten? I’d have expected more.” I say.
“Don’t ask for trouble,” Willa says elbowing me in the ribs. “We aren’t exactly prepared for a standoff.”
I give her a wicked smirk. “Oh, we’re always ready wife. Come on.” I grab her free hand and lead her into the house.
We picked this property because of the wine cellar in the basement. There was never any plans to use it for wine and instead had it changed into an armory. It had been the idea this would be like a home away from home for us but that’s been thrown out the window. The door to the cellar is just through the kitchen. Willa follows me as I open a door that looks like it could lead to a pantry and head down a flight of wooden stairs. When we reach the bottom there are rows of wine racks that we pass before another door comes into view.
This one has a keypad and thumb scanner on it. When I open it Willa lets out an amused laugh.
“You guys don’t mess around.” She says when I release her and step inside the room. There are weapons everywhere of every shape and size.
I grab a Glock and turn to hand it to her. “That’s cute but you need something with better range.”
“Can’t argue with you there.” She says and accepts the weapon.
My eyes follow her as she pulls out the clip and checks it before reloading it. She loads a bullet into the chamber and gives me a small smile.
“Let’s kick some ass.”
Just like that, I’m hard. Who knew a woman loading a gun could be so hot.
“Let’s kick some ass,” I repeat and grab another Glock and a few more rounds.
She leads the way out of the room but stops short making me nearly run into her back.
“What?”
“This dress. I’m not going to be able to move in it.” She huffs and then sets her gun down on a nearby barrel.
I watch as she grabs the hem of her dress and pulls hard. The fabric doesn’t budge at first but with a grow of determination I hear the rip. She rips a whole section of the dress away until it hits her mid-thigh exposing the thigh holster Luke had put on her.
“There.”
“That was hot.” I blurt out.
She looks over her shoulder at me and smiles. “Keep it in your pants until we’re done here…husband.”
I groan. “Don’t talk dirty to me wife.”
She laughs and takes off toward the cellar door. I follow and let myself enjoy the view of my new wife. Damn, she’s sexy, but she’s right I need to focus. I’ll have her all I want once this is over. When we are back on the main floor I can hear shouting and shots going off outside. Willa doesn’t hesitate and pulls the front door open. She doesn’t flinch or act shocked. No, she rushes out and joins Luke behind a pillar a few feet away.
“What are you boys up to out here?” She asks like a firefight isn’t going on.
“Finally decided to join us huh?” Luke quips back.
She laughs. “Had to bulk up baby. That cute gun you got me won’t help now.” She says back with a chuckle.
He smirks at her. “Damn sexy on your leg though.”
“So what do we have?” She asks.
“Six men. Three to the west and three flanking our right. Sebastian is holding them off but they have some big guns.” He explains.
“And the car bomb?”
“A way to lure us out and trap us here.” Luke goes on.
“Well, they did that much right. What happened to the others? You said there were ten.”
“Sebastian took them out. They were idiots who ran straight for us. Guess they didn’t think we would be ready.”
“Where’s Lan?” I ask him.
He glances over at me and rolls his eyes. “He’s our eyes in the sky.”
I follow where he points and see cameras facing the whole front of the property. When I look back at Luke I notice the earpieces he’s wearing. I grab it and tuck it against my ear, much to Luke’s displeasure.
“Talk to me brains,” I say into the mic.
“Good of you to show up.”
“Fuck off and tell me what’s going on.”
“Six men left. I can’t get a clear image since they’re hiding in the tree line but motion sensors say more are on their way.” He explains.
We’re already outnumbered. This is about to get serious and fast.
“Bet Sebastian is wishing we hired the backup now,” I grumble even though we had all agreed to the idea of going it alone.
Still, I’d rather him take the heat for the horrible plan.
“We got back up coming.”
“Who?”
A shot goes past my head and lodges in the wall behind me. “Shit!”
“Focus hubby,” Willa says before leaning out with her gun drawn and letting out two rounds.
I hear a sound of pain comes from somewhere before more shots move past us.
“Nice one baby.” Luke and her bump fists and then have their weapons drawn once again.
“Guess you weren’t lying about her being a good shot,” I say.
“Better than most of our guys back home,” Luke says before leaning in and kissing Willa on the cheek.
Willa opens her mouth to say something but curses with a hiss. My eyes snap to her arm where blood has started running down her skin.
“You’re hit.” I move closer and turn her to inspect her injured arm.
“It’s just a flesh wound.” She says waving me off and getting back into position. “We got one coming around the front of the car.”
“Copy.” Luke says and he moves slowly from his spot and quiclkly moves to the next pillar.
“Cover me,” Willa says and starts moving to the pillar on our left before I can agree or object.
I move into place with my weapon ready as she quickly moves. She makes it without a shot going off but someone notices her because a rain of bullets hits her pillar.
“Willa!” I call out feeling panic set in.
This place is sturdy but if these assholes are using guns bigger than what we’re carrying there is a chance one of those rounds can reach Willa at the right angle. I curse and lean out to get a few shots off but have to pull back when it hits with a half dozen in my direction. These guys are heavily armed or at least one of them is.
“Where the hell is our backup up Lan?” I call out into the earpiece I stole from Luke.”
“On it’s way.” He says back.
“Well tell them to hurry the fuck up!”
He doesn’t bother answering me. I decide to focus on making sure my wife doesn’t die before our honeymoon. She’s leaning against the pillar now landing a new clip into her gun and I take a second to try and figure out where she was hiding it. It’s not like that dress has pockets.
“Did you hide that in your bra?” I call out to her.
She gives me a weird look. “What bra?”
I’m hard. Again! How does she do that?
“Back up incoming,” Lan says through the earpiece.
“About damn time.” I lean out and try to get a look at the road to see if anyone is heading up the house.
A shot moves past me and I duck before it gets me in the shoulder. I look over to see Willa standing and shooting off three rounds in the direction of where the shot came from. Someone cries out and Willa drops into a crouch again.
“How the hell are you taking them out and I'm nearly getting my head blown off?” I call out.
She smiles. “Do a little more shooting instead of running your mouth off.”
I scoff in offense but she isn’t wrong. This isn’t the time to be my usual charismatic self. So I zone in and listen for my opening. When it sounds like the gunfire has moved in the direction of where Luke is I lean out and see the side profile of someone hiding near the tree line. I don’t hesitate. I shoot.
Another one down.
