Chapter 23
Chapter 23
The door slammed with great force, and Aurora turned quickly to stare at who had opened it. She froze at what she saw; standing in front of her was Alpha Adam, held by his Beta Oliver. He was being taken towards the bed, but she stood in shock, obviously confused by what was happening.
"Luna!" Oliver said as he walked towards her. She shook her head quickly as she felt her senses returning to reality.
"What happened to him?" Aurora asked as she strode towards Alpha Adam. She looked totally scared, not knowing what to do. How was he attacked? He had left the room hale and hearty.
"We were attacked by Rarewolves. The doctors will be here any minute now," Orion said as he walked towards Alpha Adam.
"What is wrong with the Alpha?" Aurora said, feeling fear for the first time in a long while. Dread washed through her body, and she shuddered involuntarily.
"The doctors are here," Oliver said as he stared darkly at the space. He watched the young Luna walk away from the Alpha as the doctor approached him.
"We need to remove the poison from him and give him new blood," the doctor said as they stabbed a syringe into his wrist and brought out a pipe to withdraw the poison.
"What kind of poison was used on him?" Oliver said as he approached the doctor. Everyone was still, and you could even hear the sound of a needle falling to the ground.
"This isn't just any poison; it's a venom, and it's spreading rapidly in his body. We've been trying to use this syringe to stop the flow of the poison, but we can't. We can't stop it," the doctor said fearfully.
"What kind of poison is that?"
"This is not wolfsbane. This is a type of poison that's hard to come by. The Alpha King cannot be affected by wolfsbane, and no one knows about this except a few members of the pack, including the elders. He can only be injected with a deadly poison called..."
"The Redent Toxin Poison, more dangerous than wolfsbane," the doctor said, completing his sentence. "The Alpha has been injected with that."
"And I do not have the formula for it because I never believed this kind of poison exists," the doctor added, staring at the Beta with fear written all over his face.
"What do you mean you do not have the cure for this poison?" Orion asked furiously as he walked towards the doctor.
"If we do not find the cure for this poison, we will lose the King in the next five hours," the doctor's words sent a shiver through Aurora's body. She had been standing at a far distance, listening to whatever the doctor had to say. Her wolf had hidden herself deep within her mind again; her wolf had been quiet, and she could feel her sadness, which made her wonder why her wolf was acting strange.
"We need to save him," her wolf said suddenly, without warning, as if she hadn't been hiding deep within her mind.
"What the heck, Phoenix? You think you can keep barging into my mind just like that?" Aurora said, still staring at the distressed faces of everyone. She did not know why, but no matter how much she hated the King, she never wished to see him in such a situation. She preferred him to be cold and ignore her existence rather than lie there like a weakling, which he wasn't. She felt this strange emotion elude her seeing him lying there sick and poisoned.
"We need to help him. I don't know what I am thinking, but I think something is wrong between the both of us, Aurora. I think we have a connection with the Alpha King," Phoenix said again, this time, her entire subconsciousness focused on her.
"What do you mean connected? We are married. I was forcefully married to him, so of course, we are connected," Aurora said. Deep within her, she felt a staggering feeling of truth in what Phoenix had said. Why did she always get annoyed when she saw Alpha Adam with other women, even though she had signed a contract stating that he would treat her coldly and never spare her a glance? Why had she constantly been thinking about him? Why was she so terrified that he was poisoned, and they couldn't find any antidote for the poison?
"Damn it, we need to find a cure," Aurora said, staring at the figure in the room and the despair on their faces. She left the room without anyone noticing except Oliver, who gave her a sad look before focusing back on the dying Alpha.
"Where are we going to find the antidote?" Aurora questioned as she diverted from the room to the hallway.
"The library. The library stores millions of pieces of information that we can fathom," her wolf said.
Quickly, she walked into the library, pushing the door wide open. She stared at the empty space and the huge shelves of books.
"What next, Phoenix?" she said, walking towards the bookshelves.
"Walk to the thirteenth shelf on your right. You will find books on poison," Phoenix said, leading her to the shelf.
"Good, pick the fourth book at the left side corner of the shelf," Aurora counted the books and grabbed the book. Boldly written on it was "The Potions for Poison."
"How did you know that such a book exists here?" Aurora asked as she flipped through the pages.
"We can find the cure to the poison here," Phoenix said, jumping up with excitement.
"You haven't responded to my questions."
"I keep telling you how the goddess took me and told me about my powers, but she never told me how to use them. I will be the one to determine how to use the power and how it works. For example, I never knew about the mark on your arms, but it manifested and revealed itself to us," Phoenix said sharply.
"Alright, so which of the poisons was used on the Alpha?" Aurora asked as she opened each page of the book.
"If you were listening, you would know that the doctor said it was Redent Toxin Poison. We need to search for Redent Toxin Poison," Phoenix said. Aurora nodded her head quickly, scrolling through the pages.
"Found it!" Aurora said as she flipped through the next page to find the cure. However, the page was blank, empty. Someone had torn the antidote for the poison out of the book.
Someone was ahead of them.
