Chapter 20
Chapter 20
The room feels ancient, a place of mystery and wonder. In the dim light, you can make out shelves lined with tomes of lore, their leather bindings worn with age. Some of the titles you recognize, others are in languages you've never seen before.
In the room stood two people who seemed to be in a deep conversation and did not want to be disturbed.
"The alpha king hasn't purchased the company yet, what is he waiting for?"
The voice said, turning to look around to make sure that no one was listening to their conversation.
"Yes, he hasn't purchased the company yet, but he will soon. I do expect you to destroy the company before he purchases it."
A voice whispered from the background, there was a large hooded cloth covering whoever Ashanti was talking with.
"No, once Alpha Adam purchases the company, you are to send me a message using our secret channel and we shall burn down whatever that is in the company as soon as possible. He needs to waste his resources just like he wasted mine. I will send my men to bring me any important documents that they find in the company before destroying it."
Ashanti said, and the person in the hooded figure nodded its head and left immediately.
A smile erupted from his lips at his set plans; he was one step ahead of the alpha king.
*************
"We will be meeting with the humans today, alpha Adam. They extended the contract and gave you some time to enjoy your honeymoon."
Oliver said, as he dropped some documents on the table for him.
Alpha Adam stared at the documents and gave them a strong gaze.
'Honeymoon,' he thought. It had been three days since he last set his eyes on her, and the memories of her catching him unaware with Eva had never stopped tormenting him. His heart squeezed at these thoughts; he was meant to hate her and be disgusted by her, but the mate bond was making him feel like the most miserable person.
"Where is Aurora?"
He questioned as he picked up the papers to go through them.
"She's within her chambers, I believe."
Oliver responded, as he wondered what Aurora had to do with going to purchase the company.
"Good."
He stood up from his chair, grabbed his jacket, and strode out of his office. He was not going to sit back and think over a woman and get tormented when she is just a few feet away from him.
As he walked closer to his chambers where he had accommodated her, he felt strange, he felt this energy rush through him, something that had never happened in a while. He was scared, absolutely scared of meeting her, and he couldn't figure out why he was scared.
As he stood by the door of the chambers, he gave a loud sigh and placed his hand on the knob, about to open it when the door burst open. Standing right in front of him was Aurora, dressed in a yellowish short baggy gown. She looked so cute and beautiful, and her skin was so smooth and clear, he felt his esophagus move by her.
"Alpha Adam?"
Her voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"Oh, you are here... I was going to message you regarding..."
Alpha Adam looked down at his toes; for the first time a woman was making him stammer. Not even Diane had ever made him stammer.
"You were saying, alpha Adam?"
"I will be going to the human lands to purchase the company. Your presence will not be needed, and I decided to inform you right before we leave. Selene is here to assist you if you need anything."
He rushed his words so quickly and, without giving her time to speak, he left her presence.
Aurora stood at the doorstep as she stared at his retreating figure.
"What the heck just happened in here?"
Phoenix whispered into her mind.
"I don't know; I've never seen the alpha so anxious. He has always appeared courageous and cold-hearted. He looked totally different."
Aurora said, still reeling from the shock of seeing alpha Adam standing in front of her room. She had been leaving for the kitchen to have breakfast, but breakfast wasn't her concern anymore, the shock of seeing alpha Adam standing in front of her room, looking like a kid who wanted to ask for forgiveness for wrongdoing, threw her off.
"Perhaps he is trying to be nice and doesn't know how to," Phoenix whispered.
"Nice? Did you see him with his mistress right in the week of our wedding? You weren't here when he treated me like I never existed, or when he gave me a contract with some demonic rules that came with it. And now he's trying to be nice? He has never been nice; he's a devil."
"You sound offended that he slept with his mistress."
"I am not offended; rather, I am relieved I saw him with her."
Aurora whispered back, her voice a mix of emotions.
"I am you, and I feel every emotion that you feel. I don't know why, but I am drawn to him in a way I can't explain. I feel like there is something between us," Phoenix whispered.
"Then better quench those thoughts, because nothing, absolutely nothing can be between us. Right now, I need to figure out who I am and why I have a moon mark on my hand," Aurora said, walking back towards her bed as she stared at her moon tattoo.
"We need to tell him about this mark on your arm," Phoenix pressed.
"Why should we, Phoenix? He doesn't matter. You said you knew everything, so why don't you tell me how this works? Are we some kind of bad or good people?" Aurora challenged.
"I don't know who we are. I can't say anything because the Moon Goddess has restricted my memories, and I can't discern what is what. We need to tell the alpha king about this new development. He seems to care for us, and he has the resources to protect us," Phoenix insisted, sensing that whatever she felt for the alpha king wasn't ordinary and that he could help them.
"Is that what the Moon Goddess told you to do, go back to someone who sleeps with other women just to satisfy his urges?" Aurora retorted with a touch of bitterness.
"No, but I have a feeling that we should let him know."
"Then no, I have no such feelings. We should not tell him," Aurora stated firmly, cutting her link with her werewolf off. If she was going to find answers, she would find them alone, by herself.
