Chapter 170 Back Home

Chapter 170 Back Home
Eden’s Point of View.

“You should go to sleep now,” Theron murmured against my ears, he had been nibbling on it for some time now. “You’re pregnant, you need to sleep more.”

As much as this was a fact, I was just too excited to fall asleep. I have never felt so alive in a long time. I wanted to keep talking to him; I didn’t want the conversation to end, I didn’t want to let this moment slip away from me.

Because it felt too perfect, like the first time a child was fed ice-cream, or as if I was walking on clouds, like I’m in a dream, and I would wake up soon. Despite Theron being so close, so warm, and so alive, I felt like he was going to disappear soon, so while he is here, I want to live this moment to the fullest.

I suddenly remembered something, or rather someone, that I almost forgot through my stay here; a very pivotal person to the way everything had spiraled out.

“What about Felicia?” I felt Theron stiffen at my question; it was almost as if he stopped breathing for a split second.

“Why bring her up so suddenly?” He queried with a soft sigh. “Just go to sleep, we can talk about this tomorrow.”

I shook my head.

“She is working for Thorne; I passed out when she gave me a drink.” My memory from that day still feels hazy, but now that I thought hard about it, she didn’t seem to be smirking.

It was unrecognizable at first, but what I saw in her eyes was pain, the type you get when you stub your toe or accidentally bite your tongue.

And even if it’s not pain, I wanted to know why she would do that to me… We were friends, and no matter what, I know I didn’t deserve that.

“I know.” He muttered, and my lashes fluttered.

“I got my hands on the CCTV footage, because I wanted to know how that sleazy bastard got his hands on you.” He answered that the ‘sleazy bastard’ in the statement was referring to Thorne. Theron on the other hand, seems disinterested in the topic, like we were discussing something with little or no relevance. “And I handled it already, so just sleep.”

My body twisted towards him almost immediately, and I wanted to know what he meant by ‘handled it already.’

“What did you do?” I asked worriedly, I knew what he was capable of doing, even in his most vulnerable state. Theron is not one to joke with.

“I promise that I didn’t do anything to her—” He chuckled softly when he noticed the reason for my worry, but his casual reassurance seemed to make me even more worried. “—Anything physical at least.”

“Tell me, honestly,” I begged, and only then did he stop laughing, and he cleared his throat to continue briefly. He then spent the next five minutes narrating the incident with Felicia, and then things began to make sense.

“So, it’s not her fault, that’s why I didn’t do anything to her.” He confessed sadly.

“You shouldn’t do anything to her, no matter what.”

“She hurt you, intentionally or not.” He reminded me, shocked that I forgot. “Even a sane man would be livid with her actions and would want revenge. You don’t have to be a psychopath to respond to stress.”

I let out a stiff sigh because he was right.

“We ended things amicably, so did her term in the hospital.” He continued, and I felt my eyebrows shoot up almost immediately.

“What?”

“She resigned.” He declared, and I went silent for a while. “Considering your relationship with her and how bad her finances are for her, I gave her a recommendation letter. She still works, not just in our hospital. As your husband, I have to completely remove threats from around you; a friend willing to turn their back on you is a compromised friend. It doesn’t matter the situation or the intention behind it.”

“But she didn’t have a choice.” I reminded him that some part of me wanted to hold on to the fact that she isn’t a bad person; she isn’t the type of person to hurt someone intentionally, much less a friend. All this was Dr. Giselle’s fault. “She was threatened, blackmailed, and forced.”

“Anything could have happened to you, and I never want to put you in such a vulnerable situation ever again.” His voice is absolute. “As your husband and the father of our unborn child, please let me protect you.”

That concluded our conversation; I had nothing more to say to it, and slowly I drifted into sleep in the arms of my husband.

It felt like forever, and it was the best fucking sleep I have had in a long while, but soon enough, sunrays streamed into the room, warming my face, and my eyes fluttered open. My nose was filled with the soft scent of my lemon-flavored shampoo, and I sat up, wondering why the shampoo scent was overpowering this morning.

I haven’t even had my bath yet, but my eyes landed on Theron, standing just a few inches away from the bed.

“Morning, sunshine.” He grinned, putting on his cuff links; he seemed to have showered, but he was still wearing clothes from last night.

He fingers through the curls of his wet hair that fell below his shoulder, my eyes sparkled, is it me, or was his hair longer now? I rarely see him let it down from his man-bun, except when he is bathing, and sometimes when he is asleep.

“Your shampoo smells so good, and feels so soft on the scalp.” He praised.

“Good morning,” I moaned, sitting upright, a little relieved to know that everything that happened last night was not a dream. He covered the distance between us in two strides, his touch soft against my cheeks, as he pressed a kiss against my lips.

“Where are you going so early in the morning?” I asked, and then he chuckled.

“Early in the morning? It’s almost eleven already.” He muttered as he then disappeared out of the bedroom door, and came back almost immediately, holding a tray containing food in his hands.

How did he make so much food?

“You have to eat, we have a flight to catch, and we are going back home.” His weight pressed into the bed. “Lest I forget, you owe Lola an explanation.”
