Cold

ARIANA

At first, I was just too shocked to even react. Then I was able to blink. I couldn't say that he looked bad. For some reason, while I look so ridiculous, he still looked handsome even without a single hair on his head. “Why?” After a long pause, that's all I was able to blurt out. Enzo looked at me and smiled.

“The disease isn't your fault. So you shouldn't feel ridiculous in any way. You shouldn't feel awful alone.” Tears welled up in my eyes when I heard his response. And he soon noticed it. He pulled my chair closer to his and hugged me tightly.

“You shouldn't suffer alone. I am right here. I am willing to do anything I can to at least, make it a little better for you.” Enzo added in a low tone. I just nodded my head. Soon, we were quietly eating our breakfast.

At the hospital, IVs were attached to my hand. I was trying my best but I couldn't control it. My body was shaking. I was cold. Enzo entered the room and a frown instantly formed on his face. “What's wrong? Why are you shivering?” He asked, placing the juice on the side table.

The therapy would leave me starving for some reason. So he decided to bring some snacks for me. “It's cold. I am feeling so cold. Please, turn the ac off.” I was almost begging him to turn off the AC.

“Let me call a doctor.” Enzo spoke in a low tone, getting up from his chair.

“No need to worry anyone. Just turn the AC off. Or just let the heat rise.” I replied in a low tone.

Enzo sat on the edge of the table and kissed my forehead gently. “My sweetness, the AC isn't on. You are cold, it can be signs. Signs that I can't read but your doctor will. Let me call them.” Enzo covered me with another layer of warm blanket. Then he kissed my forehead and walked out of the room. I snuggled up with the blanket and waited for Enzo to come back.

The doctors came in soon after. They checked me, took my vitals and even checked my temperature. I was going low. My body was cold. “Turn up the heat. Her body is going hypertensive. She needs a way to get her body heat up again.”The doctor informed us.

“Can't you give her some medicine or something?” Enzo asked, to which the doctor shook his head.

“We can't. Not when she is receiving the chemo fluids. We need to give her some artificial heat.” The doctor spoke in a low tone, checking my IV again.

“You are her husband, aren't you? Just lay down with her and snuggle you. Your body heat will help her warm up.” She was an aged nurse who had spoken up. For a moment, I could swear I saw his eyes lighten up. But then, he let go of the idea.

Before he could have said anything, I turned to Enzo. “Yeah! I think I'd be better with the snuggles.” My response left him shocked. He looked at me with wide eyes. Probably waiting for me to tell him that it was just a joke. But I was not in the mood for jokes. I was literally vibrating.
