Chapter 23

Jasper's POV.

I couldn't find peace in my soul as I thought about Anabel and what she might be going through at the moment. If only I could save her, prove my innocent.

Soon, the bus was at its last stop, and we all alighted from the bus.

“I'll take him to my place, you can come check up on him later.” Holm said to Willy.

“Sure. I need to rest after all we went through.” Willy nodded and went his way.

Holm and I walked toward his house, which was a few blocks away from the bus stop. Holm brought out a bunch of keys from his pocket, insert in the lock while the juggling sound complimented the sounds of the birds chirping. He opened the door and we walked in. He offered me a seat.

“Please, have your seat and make yourself comfortable. I'll be in my room.” He said and made you leave, but I stopped him.

“Holm?” I called and he turned back to me.

“Yes?” His brows raised, inquisitively.

“Why did you help me? I never thought you could be the one to help me.”

“I can't explain. I just knew I had to.” He said and went into his room.

A soft huff played on my lips as I sat comfortably on the couch. My mind went to Anabel, I was worried about her and thought of talking to her. I tried to mind link with her, but we are now in different worlds, it didn't work.

“I need to act fast. If not, Kaye might kill Anabel.” I thought.

I was tired from all the run and stress we went through and soon found myself dozing off.

Olivia's POV

The past few days, I felt peaceful. Without any fight or running away, I thought it was time for me to start a new life. Jake had been struggling to meet with my need. Though he wasn't complaining, but I could tell it was hard for him.

I got out of bed and went to the kitchen, my heavy stomach was giving me a sharp pain, but I could still manage to prepare his meal. It was the least I could do to appreciate him.

After cooking, I began to set the table. I was almost done with it when Jake arrived.

“I'm home, Olivia.” He called out with his usual smile.

I walked out of the dinning to welcome him.

“Welcome, Jake. How was work today?” I asked as I took a bag from him.

It was his habit of buying food items home every day, each time he gets his pay.

“At least, I'm still breathing.” He teased and we both chuckled.

“Go take a bath and get changed. The table is set.”

“Thanks.” He said and went into his room.

After a few minutes, later, Jake emerged from his room to the dining room, I was seated already and waiting for him. We were about to eat when he stopped me.

“Wait, Olivia.”

“Yes?” I responded with my brows curved.

“I got you a little something. I hope you like it.” He said and handed me a gift box.

The box was wrapped with a strawberry paper and I tore it opened. Opening the box, I found something I least expected of him. He's not even the father of my child, and he got me a present for my child.

This brought the thought of Kaye to my heart and it hurt so badly that I felt my heart breaking into pieces. This was followed by some tears.

“What happened? Don you like it? I can get it changed for you.” He panicked, thinking he had upset me.

“No. Nooo..” I shook my head and sniffed. “It's not about you or the cloth.” I added.

“Then, what is this about?”

“It's about Kaye. I wish he could love me, treat me like a queen. Like you do.” I made eye contact with him, with tears still streaming down my cheeks.

He stretched his hand and held mine.

“It's fine. I'm here with you and I will always be there for you, regardless of what happens.” He gave a soft reassuring squeeze to my hand and I nodded.

“Let's eat before it gets cold.” I tried to keep my voice firm.

After eating, Jake volunteered to do the dishes while I rested and watched some cartoons. He joined me afterward.

“Do you think the Pack members are still after you?” He asked out of the blues, causing me to spare him a glance.

“I don't think so. I know Kaye is dead and it had been a while. But he had no heir who could take over him, so they would be busy finding whom to be their Alpha.” I said, my gaze fixed on the television.

“That's true. But what if they are still after you...... Because you're carrying his child?”

The question does make sense to me, but I wouldn't want to dwell you long on it.

“I'm sure they would look for someone else. I'm now a history to them.” I said in a tone that I wouldn't like to entertain any more questions.

“Okay.” He exhaled sharply and watched the cartoon.

Soon, it was late, and I was beginning to doze off.

“I think I should go to bed now.” I stood up to my feet.

“Sure. Good night.”

“Aren't you coming?”

“No, I wouldn't want to disturb your privacy.” He rejected politely.

“It's not comfortable on this couch, I've been there before and today, I won't allow you to sleep here. You are joining me in the room.”

I grabbed the remote, switched off the television, and dragged him up to his feet.

“Fine…. Fine!” He raised his hand in surrender. “I'll join you in the room on one condition.”

“What condition?” I asked with my hands crossed against my chest, slightly resting on my tummy.

“I'll sleep on the floor.”

“Condition accepted.”

We both walked into the room. After I helped him lay a blanket, I mounted the bed to sleep. At that moment, we heard a loud bang on the door.

My gaze met with Jake's as my mind went to the Pack members.

“There are here.”
