Chapter 79: The Last Refuge
Alexia's POV
Descending from the stairs, Kian's voice echoed through the house, "Kian, have you taken your drugs?" I queried, stomping harder on the stairs.
"No, mom I will when I'm done with my schoolwork"
"How many times will I tell you to take a break from school work." I demanded, with furrowed eyebrows, arms crossing my chest tightly
"I'm sorry momma, but I love my schoolwork and I know that I have to study hard so I can make you and Uncle Garvin and aunty Lisa proud." He pressed, caressing my cheeks with gentle strokes.
"I see, Now I have to share my child with the crowd" I teased, pinching his cheeks playfully.
No momma he exclaimed, I love you the most and I'm studying hard for you, he insisted, cupping my face in his little palms, "but you do know that Uncle Garvin and aunty Lisa is more like family to us"
"Look at you sounding all mature," I pinched his cheeks harder.
"Ouch! Momma it hurts," he protested, wiggling in a futile attempt to free himself from my grip.
"I'm sorry," putting my hands up in mock surrender. "How do you feel now?"
"Well, my cheeks still sting," he whined, rubbing his cheeks continuously.
"No silly, I mean since your treatment." I corrected.
"Ohh, I still feel dizzy but not all the time momma."
"Why didn't you let us know that you were not feeling alright, earlier." I prodded, still not quite happy that I got to find out about my child's illness from the doctor.
"Because momma, he placed his hand on my back. You would blame it on schoolwork and I didn't want you to." He pleaded, cing lines along my palms.
"You naughty boy" I teased, unable to stay mad at my angel.
"I'm sorry momma,"
"For what?" I queried, genuinely confused.
"For making you worried about me and for making you and Uncle Garvin have a fight.. and.....,"He hesitated.
"And what darling?" I prodded, leaning in.
"For making you feel bad by asking about my dad, I promise I won't do it again," he pleaded, placing his hand on his chest as a sign of promise.
"Pinky promise?" I beamed, sticking out my left pinky finger.
"Pinky promise," he smiled, interlocking his right pinky with mine. " I love you momma," he declared, engulfing me in an embrace.
"Ohh, I love you more chipmunk," I ruffling his hair with my hands.
"How are the plans for your big party going. Do you need help momma? I can draw up a big design for you." He chattered non stop, flipping through pages of a book showing me some of the drawings he made.
"Who told you about the party?" I inquired, my eyebrows furrowing lightly.
"I overheard aunt Lisa, please don't get mad at her" he went on his knees with hands clasped together.
'Get up get up," I urged, "it's nothing to apologise for. Just that kids aren't allowed attend events like that. It's too dangerous for you. Do you understand?"
"Yes momma," he nodded.
"Alright."
"I'll go take my drugs now," he announced standing abruptly on his feet, propelling himself forward as he fled up the stairs.
"Be careful!" I yelled behind him.
Left alone in the living room, my eyes scanned the furniture that I had become all too used to, the room seemed to be alive with many glistening lights, the ash colored sofa, and abstract paintings that cibevryed the history of the moonlight pack. Sitting right next to Kian's books on the table were two plants growing out of the same pot.
Flipping through the pages of the Kian's book, I couldn't help but muse on the complex topics that were being taught to a child of three.
"Aren't there enough chairs in my living room,m that would prompt he CEO of ALEXIAN stitches to be seated on the floor" Garvin's voice sounded from the door, causing me to turn my attention to where he stood. He took long powerful strides towards me, as I rose to greet him.
"Can't the powerful CEO have some time to herself" I teased.
"No can do maam, you need to look glamorous 24/7 miss." He played along. Eyes tinkering as they sized me up.
"So why are you back so early" I inquired,
"You seem to be forgetting that your party is in less than six hours," he stated, pointing to the shorts and t-shirt I was putting on, my hair styles in a messy bun.
"Huh? What's the time?," I glanced over at the wall clock that was hanging to my right. "2pm! I exclaimed. How did the time go by so quickly.
Garvin's eyebrows arched in a knowing look.
\---------------
My eyes ran over my reflection in the mirror once again. The glamorous and sexy knee-length cocktail dress. Peach, fitted silhouette, with full Crystalized detail clung to my skin like it needed some saving. I wore my hair down in wavy curls, while my face remained padded with makeup.
A feeling of nervousness ran through me, and as the clock continued to tick, my heart pounded harder. A reminder that my launch party was in less than an hour and that a lot of media houses were going to be present alongside prominent wolves from other packs, who knows if he would be among them.....
Nah it's not possible, I reassured myself as I stepped out of my car, kick starting the launch party. Dozens million dollar cars were arranged on either sides of the parking lot, giving the place a feel of class and luxury.
"I love you ALEXIAN!
"I'm wearing your limited edition dress!!
"Please sign my dress!!"
The hollers from the crowd of people who weren't able to make it into the actual venue were becoming chaotic, as they struggled with the guards to lay their hands on me.
"It's fine" I waved to the guards who were struggling to restrain the raging crowd. Shaking hands and signing autographs, a great amount of time was already spent at the entrance before I could even reach the venue proper.
A particular figure in the distance caught my eye, his Chestnut wavy hair was styled backwards, leaving few strands falling by the side stopping right above his broad shoulders. His dark blue tuxedo clinged tightly to his chiseled body. He had his back turned to me so I couldn't say for sure who it was, but it felt almost as if he was....
I stared in the direction where I had seen him earlier to get a better view but the figure was no longer there. Strange!
Maybe my eyes and mind were playing games on me.
Rubbing my temples in frustration, I took deep breaths like I have been conditioned to in nerve wracking situations like this one.
"Ma'am is there a problem?" The security Garvin had employed probed behind me.
"There's none... let's go in" I declared, chin held up high solemnly, with long strides, jewelries glistening as I mounted the stage podium
