Chapter 72: Maybe I am

Alexia's POV

"You can not come Alexia are you deaf," Garvin yelled at me. But I was still undeterred. It was my son that was inside there.

"Maybe I am," I sneered, "you can't just go and leave me here, I need to protect my child."

"Alexia you will alert the --

The sound of a gunshot came cutting Garvin's words Short.

"Alexia go low quickly" Garvin yelled, and I fell flat on my stomach.

Turning to the security we brought along with us, his voice low and domineering,

"Sylvia, instruct them. You guys can go through the back." He ordered, watching the environment as they disappeared into the back of the building. "Alexia, hold on to the Hem of my shirt and follow behind me. Ensure not to make any sound".

"I won't," I nodded. not when my son's life is at stake. I would willingly lay down my troublesome life for Kian. I know he would be fine

Finally, inside the building, the site I witnessed broke my heart a new. Kian was sitting with a rope tied loosely around his ankle.

"Please let my son go," I cried, running to meet Kian only to be dragged back by Garvin.

"Momma," Kian cried on the other side of the room.

"Kian baby," I called louder, falling to my knees.

My baby looked so weak and tired there. His eyes seemed like they were half asleep and half open.

"What are you doing here?" One of the abductors asked, his face fully concealed with a mask making it difficult for me to make out who he was. I examined his body structure closely. I had seen those boots somewhere but I just can't place a finger on where exactly I had seen it. That body buildup was nothing like Kia, the voice didn't match either.

"You want a taste of me?" The man's shrill voice came and I shook my head in response.

"Then quit sizing me up else I will be forced to do things to you,"

"Please let my son go please," I pleaded, falling to the ground on their knees with their clasped together.

"Momma please save me," Kian's voice rang out once more. Tears streaming down his cheeks.

"I will my baby momma is here to save you"

"Uncle Garvin help"

"You would have your son on one condition,' when he bent over to whisper in my ears. Two of Garvin's men soon followed the back door banging them with a stick on their heads.

Garvin nooo stop your men they much kill towards.

And isn't that the point? He might wake up and force himself on you. Do you really think murder isn't enough in this case?

The security them began untying Kian, making sure not to bruise him as he did.

"Momma," Kian screamed as he ran towards me.

"Let's leave here," I whispered, pulling him by the arm.

"Freeze," a voice came behind me.

"I--- I am sorry." I stuttered putting my hands up in the air.

"Now head back into the building," the voice commanded, cold chills running down my spine.

The sound of a gunshot came, followed by grunting,  causing me to turn my head slowly.

"Garvin you shouldn't have shot him," I complained, unable to stand the sight of blood that was oozing down his legs...

"Come it's just on his leg. He can be treated." Garvin assures, "Now let's leave this place."

The ride back to Garvin's place was eerily quiet. Everyone was still in shock. I hugged Kian tightly afraid that he might disappear the minute I let go of him.

"Alexia I hope you are fine," he finally spoke up, his eyes not leaving the road as he inquired.

"Yeah I am," I nodded, still unable to process large sentences from the shock that still engulfed me.

*

The familiar smell of sandalwood and clean soap hit me the minute I opened the door to the living room.

"Miss Alexia you back," Lisa screamed, peeking from the kitchen and dragging her legs to come give us a welcoming hug.

"Aunt Lisa I missed you", Kian said softly, unable to fight the tears that were already streaming down his cheeks.

"I missed you too my little scumbag, she pinched his cheeks playfully...

"Scumbag is an insulting word", Kian protested, narrowing his eyes at her.

"Who told you that," she chuckles

d.

"My teacher." Kian trailed off as he was carried upstairs by Lisa. They probably had a lot of catching up to do, plus Kian needs a thorough shower. I am sure Lisa would handle it just fine.

Settling into one of the sofas, and reaching out for the remote control that lay lazily on the table for what seemed like thirty minutes, he finally cleared his throat and turned to me.

"So tell me how was your hotel experience," his voice soft and not carrying the tone of annoyance I thought they would have.

"Well you know the most of it so I'm guessing that I don't really need to answer this," I shrugged.

"The house finally seems like the food of old times lively and happy,"

"Mm yeah"

I knew I was wrong to have left. But this is the same reason why I had left. Being around Garvin would make me feel worse than I already feel. the aching pain in my heart. Like I am some sort of people user. All Garvin has ever done for Kian and me showered us with unconditional love.

"Well now it's conditional just so you know,' Crystal scoffed

"Shut it crystal wu can't just accept him"

"Because I feel there's more to all of this than what meets the eye"

"And what do you mean"

I couldn't get her response when Garvin spoke up again,  "Alexia I know it's quite sudden and now isn't the right time but did you please hear me out?" His eyes were eager and beseeching, " On what I have to say about my feelings for you."

"Garvin," I sighed, wondering how to piece my words together, "it's not going to be easy I have seen you as my brother all this while. Changing that is something I find unsettling.

"So what are you saying," he pressed further. Sitting up from the sofa.

"What I am saying Garvin is that it would take some time for me to adjust and finally give you an answer. I hope you are not upset by it."

"Of course not," he expressed, "take all the time that you need"

But I could see the sadness in his eyes. Was I that bad a person? Not to reciprocate the feelings he had for me? I felt even worse knowing that a part of me hopelessly longed for Kia despite everything. I hated that part of me.
