Chapter 70: Dreams
Alexia's POV
It is nice to meet you miss TRACIAN, the host welcomed me with smiles on her face
"It is my pleasure to be here". I said equally smiling at her.
"And it is even more thrilling that you opted to show up here without a mask, so tell us what prompted you to finally appear without a mask.?" She asked, her eyes flicking with enthusiasm.
"Well, I thought it was finally the time to show the world who I am don't you think?". I shrugged.
She nodded, knowingly.
"Miss TRACIAN, I am sure it is such an honor to your fans to finally see the face behind the beloved brand. And you know, know you on a while new level." She winked.
"Everyone this..this is me". I said with a nervous laugh.
"So what inspired you to become who you are today?
Her question sent me into a trance and I suddenly found myself asking what inspired me to become the person I was today. I thought of a couple of template answers but I did not want to go with template answers, I wanted an answer that would inspire people as well.
"Miss? Can you hear me?" It was not till the beautiful host, Stelle, called me back to reality, that I realized that I had spent an awful lot of time thinking of an answer.
"I am sorry what was your question again?"
She flashed me a knowing smile before proceeding to reply, "I asked what inspired you to become who you are today?"
I breathed in, and remembered my mother's words to follow my heart and give replied from my heart.
"I grew up in a well, average home. We were doing relatively well, especially my mom". I gave a bitter sweet smile at the momory of my mom working her butt off just to be able to provide fro my lazy stepdad and I. "Just like any child, I wanted to do everything to make her proud, I wanted to give her the luxury she could not afford to give herself", my voice breaking off and tears streaming down my cheek at this point but I did not mind. "I loved fashion at that time, I had always dreamed of my mom putting on a design I made, she loved all my sketches and never for once criticized them till she lost her life. She died and I did not have the will to continue designing, because what for? The person that inspired me was already gone." I shrugged indifferently "but not until," I continued. "Not until I met someone special, so who encouraged me to follow my passion, someone who told me that my mom would be proud if I pushed through with what I loved the most. So here I am, taking their advice and making my mom proud."
I had not realized that I had shed a pool of tears till Stelle handed me a tissue paper to wipe my tears. I touched my face and realized that it would be a grave mistake to wipe it off with tissue paper, my makeup must already be smudged by mow.
"Excuse me" I gestured to Stelle, who gave me the permission I needed to slip away for sometime.
I walked down the hallway, checking the doors for the one with a toilet sign or at least someone I could ask for the directions. I needed to regroup and recollect my thoughts properly.
Thankfully I had not walked for long when I saw a guy come in from the door down the hallway, I instantly recognized him as the guy that had ushered me in.
"Excuse me, excuse me" I called practically running up to him.
"Oh heyy, Miss TRACIAN, we are absolutely thrilled to have you here. Is there perhaps something you need my help with?" He asked with a fleeting smile. He had the same smile on his face when I arrived earlier. Some part of me assumed that he was trying to get flirty with me but I waved it off, maybe he was just a really smiley person.
"ahh, yes I need help locating the women's bathroom you see. I need to touch up" I said, gesturing to my face.
He let out a small laugh before leading the way to the bathroom, "we are here" he announced as we approached the bathroom. "Please do not take long, before the audience would feel you fled from the interview" he said, I could see that he was very nervous and probably scared that I found the interview boring.
The moment he left I entered in to the bathroom, which was surprisingly really nice for a public restroom. I looked at the woman who stared at me in the mirror, a completely different person from who she was three years ago. Completely different from the naive girl from three years ago. The woman who stared at me was bold, confident and powerful. Maybe Lisa was right, maybe I should give myself a bit more credit, maybe I should acknowledge my efforts as well. Thinking of the conversation with Lisa suddenly made me uneasy. For the last couple of hours, I have tried so hard to focus on anything other than my conversation with Lisa.
'i think the Sir is in love with you' her words echoed in my head once again. Fighting their way through the shelf I had hidden them, making it out and resounding loudly in my ears.
I thought back to all the moments I had spent with Garvin during this three years, the kind words, the gestures, reassurance and most importantly, the way he loved my son, even before he was born. The way he looked at me. No! I shook my head. "I am probably just seeing things, so is Lisa. I can not let what she said get into my head, Garvin and I are just friends. Nothing more, nothing less"
I looked at myself once more, I had resolved on washing the entire makeup rather than touching it up. I looked so much better this way. Reaching for my bag, I reapplied lipgloss and made to continue the interview.
'i see you are back already" Stelle beamed at me the minute I returned to my chair.
