Chapter 52 Victor's Absence And Vanessa's Move.
The visit to the lawyers eventually happened, and Kira couldn't help the excitement within her. After what seemed like ages of countless promises, Victor was finally keeping his word. His hand rested possessively on her thigh as the car drove, stroking her lovingly like a doting father figure.
“Something on your mind, Kira?” Victor asked as he noticed her expression.
Kira shook her head, not really ready to talk, but Victor wasn't having no for an answer and pressed again.
“You seem a little bit tense and unusually silent, are you sure you're fine?”
"I'm just nervous," she said simply. "I've been waiting for this for weeks."
Victor's fingers squeezed gently. "There's nothing to be nervous about, my dear. Blackstone is a professional, and I'm sure he'll answer whatever questions you have."
Kira nodded absentmindedly and thought of the name instead… Edward Blackstone, Esq. The same man whose seal had been on the letter that summoned her to New York, whom Elena had trusted with matters that were private enough to keep separate from her husband. She was indeed very nervous, and she had no idea what she was actually supposed to be expecting.
The car moved through the city's morning traffic and eventually pulled up before a large corporate building, coming to a final halt in the parking lot that had quite a lot of expensive looking cars already parked. Kira wondered how good the lawyer was to have so many wealthy clients.
Victor took her arm as they got out of the car, guiding her toward the elevators as if he owned the place himself. "Blackstone's office is on the forty-second floor, and he handles only the most sensitive matters himself."
"Sensitive," Kira repeated in genuine surprise. "Like Elena's will?"
"Among other things," Victor replied with a chuckle that somehow managed to make Kira even more uneasy.
The elevator ride lasted only a few seconds, then opened to a quiet corridor lined with frosted glass. Victor led her to the one at the end, where a description read:
EDWARD BLACKSTONE, ESQ.
Hawthorne, Blackstone & Leeds
Attorneys at Law.
Victor opened the door without knocking…
…
The house felt quite different without Victor in it. Rex noticed it the moment his father's car pulled out of the driveway, with Kira's pale face visible through the window. The relief was short lived however because Vanessa was still here, and he hated the way she had been watching him all morning with that same mischievous smile she always wore. He had locked himself in the study, trying to focus on some work documents when the door suddenly opened without warning.
Vanessa came inside and closed the door, then flashed him a sultry grin. "Busy?"
"What the hell do you want, Vanessa?" Rex snarled at her, not even looking up from the documents in front of him.
She crossed the room slowly and settled into the chair across from his desk, crossing one leg over the other. She smoothed her robe, letting it part to show a glimpse of her spotless thigh.
"You don't have to be so mean all the time, Rex,” she cooed at him. “I noticed that you've been avoiding me for quite a while now, and I really just want us to talk.”
“I'm quite busy as you can see,” he replied coldly. “Besides, I have nothing to talk to you about.”
"That's a shame, darling," Vanessa said, reaching into her robe and pulling out her phone. "Because I have something you might find pretty interesting.”
She tapped the screen as she said it, opening up a video that began to play immediately. Rex was about to say something when he suddenly froze halfway, stunned completely by the sound of his own voice. "Spread for me, naughty girl…”
His head snapped up, and he grabbed the phone from Vanessa immediately. The playing video showed him and Kira in the kitchen on that night, when he was spreading chocolate over her, before proceeding to lick them off while he muttered more dirty words. He hurriedly deleted the clip with shaky fingers, flashing the grinning Vanessa a look of pure hate and disgust.
“It's so funny to see you like this,” she said laughing, watching his body continue to tremble at the unexpected revelation.
“You fucking bitch,” he yelled at her, rising from his seat.
Vanessa didn't even flinch an inch. “Calm your horses, sweetheart. Did you really think deleting it will make it go away? I know you're dumb, but surely not that dumb.”
She laughed again, and Rex's anger only seemed to get hotter.
“What the fuck are you yapping about, you sick bitch!”
Vanessa stood up and stated him straight in the eyes. “I already made enough copies of your dirty little secret, chocolate boy. One wrong move and you'll be the biggest viral news on the web.”
That seemed to drain all the anger out of Rex. He grabbed the table to steady himself, then wiped at the sweat that was gathering all over his face.
“How could you stoop so low, Nessa? How could you think of doing something like this?”
“Oh save me that pathetic morality bullshit, Rex!” She snapped back at him. “Weren't you the one happily spreading and devouring your so called step sister in the kitchen? I wonder what daddy would say when he finds out exactly how much you've been nibbling from his tasty little snack.”
Rex just stood there in total silence, chest heaving terribly. "What the hell do you want from me, Vanessa?"
Vanessa's face immediately filled with a victorious grin, and she moved even closer to him, so close that they were only inches apart.
"I want you, Red," she said softly, reaching up to run her fingers through his hair. "You know I've always wanted you.”
Rex took a hurried step back, but she followed anyways, grabbing his shirt now and pulling him close against herself.
"Don't you remember what we had? The way I made you feel? The way you used to beg for me? Don't you miss all of that?" She slowly unbuttoned the top button of his shirt, her fingers trailing down his bare chest. "I could make you feel that way again, Rex… All you have to do is say yes."
Rex's eyes fluttered closed. His breathing was shallow, and his heart was still beating so fast he thought it was going to burst out of his chest.
His mouth opened and closed several times, but he could not think of anything reasonable to say in that moment. He couldn't even tell if it was all real or he was dreaming. Between Vanessa's heavy perfume assaulting his senses and the haunting video repeatedly playing in his head, he was utterly lost for words.
When he finally managed to make a sound, the words were scattered and incoherent.
“Vanessa… I… We, Can't… This…”
