Chapter 124 Chapter 124
Chapter 124 Chapter 124
Our eyes remained on each other for a while before I realized that I'd caught the attention of someone else too. There was curiosity in the woman's eyes and, afraid that she might follow my gaze to Aiden, I quickly looked elsewhere. It wasn't hard to picture everyone there mobbing him until they killed him if they found out about his presence. Klaus would surely have a field day with that.
Trying my best not to look at Aiden again, I spent the rest of the afternoon getting familiar with the members of the pack. There were so many people introducing themselves that I soon lost track of the names I'd heard.
The only thing that kept me going as I was getting familiar with them was the thought that I was doing everything for Aiden, to keep him safe. Continuing the charade with Klaus and the members of the pack was my little way of contributing to Aiden's safety.
After the main part of the ceremony, I retired to my room to prepare for the second part which would go on late into the night.
"How about I get some of the female wolves to keep you company and help with any preparation you want to do?” Klaus offered before I took my leave.
“No, I'll be fine,” I replied quickly. Too quickly than I intended.
Klaus stopped walking instantly and raised an eyebrow at me. "Is everything okay? Why do you look and sound guilty?"
"Nothing is wrong," I answered, slowly this time around. "I'm just tired and I would like some alone time before the next part of the ceremony."
Klaus didn't look convinced but he didn't pressure me about it any further. Once I was back in the room, I locked the door behind me and slumped against it, trying to steady the breath I'd been holding since I saw the suspicious look on Klaus' face.
As I was stripping off my clothes, I heard a knock on the door and the knock was too light to be Klaus' own. And since I wasn't expecting anyone else, a confused look appeared on my face as I approached the door. Bracing myself, I opened it but I found the hallway empty when I stared into it. I looked left, right, then left again but there was no sign of anyone there. Pulling back into the room, I resumed pulling off my clothes and as I raised my gown over my head, I felt the hairs on the back of my head stand.
Panicking, I struggled to pull the gown away from my head completely and I ended up ripping it as I did that. The door slammed shut and I looked behind me to see Aiden standing there, his eyes carrying the same fire I'd seen in them earlier that evening.
I barely had time to react before I felt myself being pinned to the wall with a big, strong hand grabbing my neck. "Aiden," I muttered the only thing that came to mind.
"You don't know how disappointed I am in you right now," he said angrily. "You're unbelievable."
“I'm sorry, Aiden. A lot has happened,” I said, struggling to release my neck from his grip.
"I can't believe you've been whoring around while I've been worried sick that you were in danger."
The accusation hit me like a slap in the face.
"I wasn't whoring around," I gasped in protest.
"Yeah? I'm wrong then?” He asked, his voice full of sarcasm. “How do you explain getting married to Klaus then? It's not like he forced you or anything. You looked so happy at the ceremony, smiling at all those people. I'm going to make sure every single one of them is bathed in their own blood." His hand came free from my neck and he took a few steps back so he could get a better view of me.
“Aiden, please, calm down," I pleaded with him. "That's taking things too far. People are already scared of you enough as it is. Why do you think they are staging a revolution against you in the first place?”
When he didn't answer, I continued. "It's because of your anger, your brutality, and the fear it incites in them. One who rules with fear is a ruler of nothing. You have to do something to win these people over."
He scoffed at that. "You need to hear the bullshit that's coming out of your mouth. I know you're doing all this to protect yourself and I don't think you should waste your time on that. It's not a good look for you."
"Aiden, please," I said softly, moving closer to him. “Everything I'm doing, I'm doing for you. I'm trying to protect you here. Do you even know how I ended up in California and what I went through during the terrible chain of events that led me here? I was—”
A sudden knock on the door interrupted us and a voice followed immediately before we could react. "Hey. Are you okay? Klaus asked me to check on you. The ceremony is about to start."
The voice was female but I couldn't recognize it. Looking at Aiden and seeing the murderous look on his face, I shouted back at the person that I was okay and that I would join them soon. Aiden and I heard her footsteps receding a few seconds later.
"I gotta go, Aiden," I said afterwards.
"You're joking," he said with an evil chuckle. "You really think I'm going to let you go out there to become Klaus' luna? Knowing fully that you would be lost to me forever after that?"
I couldn't think of any response and everything else after that happened very fast. Aiden was all over me, grabbing the sheets from the bed and tying me with it. Before I could protest, a blindfold came over my eyes and the sequence of his movements reminded me of the numerous times something like this happened in his room. "You whore," he said with venom as he tightened the knots around my limbs.
Deciding I wasn't going to take that lying down, I hit him back with, "Of course, but I only started after you gave me out to Asper so it's all your fault."
The next knot around my hand was so tight that I felt like my veins were going to burst out of my hands. Before I could say anything else, a piece of cloth was curled across my face and used to gag me. A muffled sound of protest escaped my lips and my eyes went wide as two fingers slipped into my panties.
