Chapter 123 Chapter 123

Chapter 123 Chapter 123
I was sitting on my bed, in the same position that I'd been sitting for hours now, when I heard the key turning in the lock of the door. I'd lost track of time while sitting there and the only thing that made me aware of what period of the day it was was the sunlight coming in through the large window in the room. From its position, I could tell that it was late noon. And I'd been in that position since a little bit after sunrise.

The door opened slowly and I found myself staring at Klaus, his gaze dancing over my body. He looked pleased with himself, like one would do when they are convinced that they had punished someone enough.

I threw him a brief, nonchalant glance before averting my gaze to stare out the window. “How long has it been?” I asked him.

“Five days,” he replied casually. “I hope you've learnt your lesson."

My head jerked back in his direction. “Five days?”

"Yeah,” he confirmed. "The next time you decide to go against me you won't be so lucky because I'd just kill you.”

Did he just say I was lucky he locked me in my room for five days? Wow.

"Nothing you do can stop me from going after Aiden so you'd be better off accepting that it's going to happen,” he said, as if he was giving me important life advice. "Stop wasting your time and energy trying to fight it."

"Sure," I said dryly, eager for him to take his leave.

"Alright then. You're free," he said and glanced around the room once before taking his leave. Once he was gone, I lifted myself from the bed and went to lock the door. It felt really good to know that I could lock the door and open it at will once again. I thought I would have gone crazy in those five days he'd locked me inside.

Returning to sit on my bed, I thought about everything he said and everything that had happened so far and I concluded that the easiest way to get what I wanted was to go along with whatever he said and did. I wouldn't be able to protect Aiden if I was dead and with the way things have been with Klaus recently, he looked more likely to kill me than to make me his luna. And the latter was a far better option than the former.

Later that evening, I heard a knock on my door and I already knew who it was before I opened it. Before I could think about it twice, I pulled the key from the keyhole immediately after opening the door and palmed it.

"Get dressed, I'm announcing you as my luna soon," he ordered, heading towards my wardrobe. "The ceremony starts in a few hours and we have to be there before it does."

"What do you think you're doing?” I asked him, watching him skeptically.

Stopping with his hand on the door of the wardrobe, he turned sharply. "I want to take clothes for you. What does it look like?"

I chuckled and started walking towards him. "You can't be serious. Why would you do that? I can dress myself perfectly and you know that."

He looked like he was about to argue but his ringing tone suddenly pierced the air and he swallowed whatever he wanted to say. I watched with folded arms as he answered the phone and once he was done, he scoffed at the phone before raising his eyes to meet mine.

"Be ready in an hour or we're going to have problems," he warned and disappeared after that.

It took me forty five minutes to finish up and as I appeared in the living room, the look that appeared in Klaus' eyes to me I'd done exceptionally well. I can't remember him ever looking at me that way.

"Wow. You're...." He shook his head as if to recollect himself and whatever he wanted to say died in his mouth.

A small part of me really wanted to hear what he had to say but I didn't bother myself with it when he didn't. As he led the way to the car, I found myself admiring his dressing too, then, suddenly, an image of Aiden dressed similarly crept into my mind and Klaus was temporarily forgotten.

The venue for the ceremony was almost fully occupied when we arrived there and I realized that there were even more people present than there were at the meeting some days ago. I noticed that Klaus did his best to make sure we didn't make too much contact and I was thankful for that. The last thing any of us needed was a repeat of what happened at dinner that night. As much as I would have loved for anything to interrupt the ceremony, I wasn't ready to go through all that again for my wish to come true.

That still didn't stop me from hoping something or someone would interrupt us. It had dawned on me that if the ceremony was finalized and I became his Luna, then death would be the only thing that could pull us apart. Not Aiden or anyone else. It would be a forever thing and the thought of that filled me with dread, making my heart

race.

I could barely pay attention as those thoughts ran through my mind but I caught Klaus looking at me and smiling a few times. I seemed to be the only person in the building that wasn't happy about the ceremony.

Make that myself and one other guy seated deep in the crowd. Then something clicked in my head and my mouth nearly fell open. The reason the guy I was staring at did not look happy about the ceremony was because the guy was Aiden. He was there, flesh, blood and all, staring at me intensely, his eyes screaming disappointment.

How the hell was that possible?

How long had he been there? Better still, how long had he known where I was?

We maintained eye contact and he remained fixed to where he stood, as if he'd been planted there. Suddenly remembering Klaus' presence, I stole a sideways glance at him and I was filled with relief to see that he didn't seem to be aware of Aiden's presence. I hoped things could stay that way, lest the ceremony turn into a fighting ring. There was fire in Aiden's eyes and I had no doubt who it was intended for.
