Chapter 119 Chapter 119

Daisy's POV:

A few days after the incident at the dinner table, Klaus took me to meet members of the rogue pack so he could introduce me to them. He barely said anything to me during the drive but I noticed him staring at me a few times. "You look surprised," Klaus remarked as we walked into the building and he was right. I was surprised. Looking around at all the people gathered in the building, I realized that they were way more than I expected. I couldn't believe that was the amount of people that were ready to risk everything possible just to go against Aiden who wouldn't give a second thought to killing any of them.

There were murmurs as Klaus led me by the hand towards the small podium at the other end of the large room. My eyes met a lot of other people's own and the only thing I could see in them was curiosity.

"Are you sure about this?" I asked Klaus, making sure he was the only one that could hear me.

"Of course. There's no other way to do it,” he replied dryly, nodding his head at some of the pack members. They nodded back, some smiling, but the smiles disappeared when their eyes fell on me. Klaus and I climbed the podium, overlooking the whole room and the number of people there seemed to have increased, compared to what I saw when we walked in.

Klaus clapped his hands lightly and said, “Silence, everyone.”

A wave of silence swept across the room immediately and all eyes were focused on me and him. I'd never in my life had to face this amount of people before.

Klaus' eyes danced around the room, taking it all in, then he started. “You know I'm never one to beat around the bush, so I'm just going to go straight to it. I called this meeting because I wanted to introduce you all to Daisy here." He gestured towards me as he said that. “Daisy and I are lovers and, very soon, I'm going to make her my luna. As you all know, a leader is never complete without a partner. She is going to be my partner and together, we will lead you all to battle against Aiden.”

As Klaus was addressing them, I was watching their faces and I could see millions of questions swimming to their eyes. A hand jutted up and Klaus directed his gaze at the owner of the hand, a fat, middle-aged man.

"Is that not Aaren's sister who was enslaved by Aiden?” The man voiced out. "How can we trust her if she's been on the enemy side?”

There were loud murmurs from the crowd to show their support of everything the man said.

Klaus stepped forward a bit. “Like you said, she was enslaved. That's all she was to Aiden. A slave. Her only value to him was as one. Nothing more."

I almost winced from hearing those words coming out of his mouth. He said them so harshly that it seemed to me like he was using those exact words with the intention to hurt me.

"That doesn't mean we can trust her. What if she's been deceiving you and she's secretly feeding information back to him?" Another person asked, a woman this time.

Before Klaus could answer that, another question followed and then on and on it went until the whole place was agog with people voicing out their concerns over me being their luna. Seeing that I might not have to pretend to be his lover after all, I smiled to myself but the look in his eyes told me he saw the smile and I immediately returned my lips to their natural position.

The noise in the room continued and Klaus decided he'd had enough. Turning back to the crowd, he said, “Silence!

The single word came out so loud that it bounced off the walls of the room, drowning out every other voice as the room returned to its state of total silence.

"All your concerns are valid,” Klaus addressed them, “but so are my explanations. Daisy will be my luna and nothing will change that. I can assure you that she wouldn't betray us. You have nothing to worry about." He paused for a few seconds to see if anyone had anything to say but no one did. Then, he continued. “Now that I have a Luna, I am fully fit to lead you all into battle against that tyrant and I expect you all to be getting ready for that. The time to fight back is now, when we're all united.”

Instead of the supportive cheering and sounds of approval that even I myself was expecting to hear, there were only low tone exchanges among the people.

"What's going on?" Klaus asked when no one said anything to him. "Are you people afraid? What do you have to be afraid of? You have me and you have the numbers."

"Kieran never taught us to attack," someone replied. "Instead, he taught us to lay low and defend ourselves against any attack. We're not ones to look for war where there is none."

“Kieran was wrong,” Klaus argued and I could sense that he was already getting angry. “If he had been wise enough, he'd—”

Movements in the crowd interrupted him and before we could make sense of what was happening, a man had forced his way to the front, hopping onto the podium. Klaus braced himself as if expecting the man to attack him and I quickly took a few steps back in case that happened.

Instead, the man faced the crowd and said, “Do you really think Kieran was protecting you?”

“What?” Klaus asked, confused.

"Do you all actually believe that it was due to Kieran's ability that we've been safe from Aiden's ruthlessness?" The man asked.

"What are you talking about?" Someone asked from the crowd.

"Get to the point or get off the stage," Klaus said to the man with a low growl.

Acknowledging that with a nod, the man continued. "Kieran was paying huge amounts as taxes to Aiden, his so- called friend that he believed in and he was paying them frequently. That is the only thing that has been keeping us safe from him or we wouldn't be together to be having this conversation today.

My point is, we shouldn't wait around for Aiden to come for us, something that is bound to happen now that Kieran is dead and those taxes are no longer available. We have to take arms and protect ourselves. Our lives, our families, our community and our future are at stake here. Remember that.”

After his speech, the man turned to face Klaus and, balling his right palm into a fist, he slammed it into the left part of his chest, an action that spoke volumes. What he said to the people must have hit them good because, one by one, they copied his action, all of them showing their support for Klaus' movement.
