Damien POV
I grabbed her hand before she could walk away. “Say it again,” I said.

“Say it again. Tell me that I am full of complications, or that I have never brought an ounce of happiness into your life, or that the moments we shared mean nothing to you.” I searched her eyes for a sign, but they were void.
She looked away, but she didn’t pull away from my grip. She just let the tears fall. For a few seconds, I
allowed her to cry as I watched her.
“You’re like a volcano, Damien,” she said finally.
“Beautiful, powerful… but dangerous. From a distance, you seem controlled, but the closer someone gets, the more they realize you’re only waiting to explode. And when you explode, the person gets hurt. And I am tired of getting hurt.”
“So, that’s it? You’ve had enough?”
“Yes.”
“Are you with him now?” I asked, almost in a whisper, as I couldn’t bring myself to say it out loud.
She frowned. “What?”
“The man who is always around you. Are you dating him?”
“That’s none of your business, and this will be the last time I ever talk to you. So please, when you see me next, just act like I’m a stranger, because to me, you are now a stranger.” She said as she pulled her hand away and turned to leave, but I wasn’t done yet.
“Julie,” I called, and she paused. “I know you’re angry. Hell, you should be. But I’m not going to let you go without a fight.”
She just stood there, her back to me, not making any effort to turn back.
“You can push me away, ignore me, or even hate me if you want,” I continued. “But I will still never let you go. The only way you can make me stop is if I’m dead. Even if you marry someone else, I will still fight for you, because I love you, and when I love someone, I fight till the very end.”
I could see the slight tremble in her shoulders, but she didn’t turn around. And then, without a word, she walked away.

“Damn this music,” I cursed. The lyrics felt as if they were mocking me, telling me to just forget about
her.
I stormed out of the restaurant, got into my car, and drove straight to my office because I sure wasn’t going to give up on her.
I was going to find out who set me up, because it surely wasn’t a coincidence.
As I entered my office, I immediately called my secretary.
“Any updates on what I asked about?” I asked.
“Yes, sir. I looked into it and got some information. I’ll start with the elevator. The elevator wasn’t malfunctioning. It looks like the switch was manually turned off and then back on later.”
I stilled. “What?”
He nodded. “I called the maintenance team to give me a report, and the elevator wasn’t faulty, neither was the switch faulty. It seemed as if someone turned off the elevator switch and turned off the light.”
“Just like I expected,” I muttered as I grabbed my phone and called the elevator technician. He sure had to know something about it. He answered on the second ring.
“Good… day, sir,” the man greeted nervously.
“Tell me exactly what happened to that elevator,” I demanded. “And don’t you dare lie to me.”
There was silence on the other end.
“I–uh–it seemed like a minor technical-”
“Cut the bullshit.” My patience was razor–thin. “Who told you to shut it down?”
“I–I can’t say ”
I slammed my hand on the desk. “If you don’t tell me right now, I’ll make sure you never work in this city again, and I will also make sure the little money you got from this company is spent on hiring lawyers.”
The man took in a deep breath.
“I had no other choice, I-”

“Stop this bullshit story and tell me who ordered you to.”
“Someone paid me to do it,” he said.
“Obviously,” I muttered, already annoyed.
“So can you just tell me who the hell the person is already?”
He didn’t say anything.
“Who?” I shouted.

“I honestly don’t know, sir. Someone just called me and told me what to do. She offered money, and that was it,” he said.
“She?” I asked.
“Yes, sir.”
“Just so

If the elevator was tampered with, then the CCTV footage surely was tampered with too.
I headed out of the office and went to the security office.
“Good day, sir,” the man greeted. “What brings you here?”
I didn’t waste time with pleasantries. “The footage from the day of the elevator incident. Pull it up.
Now.”
He hesitated. “Sir, you know some parts were…
I cut him off. “Just show me the damn footage.”
He sighed and gestured to one of the younger security officers, who quickly tapped on the keyboard. A video file appeared on the screen.

The footage started playing. I watched as Cassandra and I stepped into the elevator. The doors closed. A few moments later, the screen went blank.
“What happened?” I asked.
“This is what I had told your secretary and also tried to explain to you. The footage was corrupted. We tried recovering it, but someone erased it from the system.”

I took a deep breath.
“Someone erased it, huh?” I muttered. At least this was taking us somewhere.
“Who has access to the footage?” I asked.
He hesitated again. “Only authorized personnel. Myself, my team, and…” He paused. “A few higher- ups in the company.”
“Give me the list of everyone who had access to it.”
He nodded and handed me a printed sheet of names. I looked through the list, hoping to find one person’s name.
And then, I saw it.
