Chapter 41
Damien POV
“Alright, everyone, let’s go over this one last time,” I said.
55 vouchers.
“We’ve refined the pitch deck,” my assistant, Mark, said, flipping through slides on the projector. “I’ve added projections for the next two quarters based on the feedback we got from the initial meeting”
I nodded, leaning over the table to examine the numbers. “Good. And the cost breakdown for phase one-did you rework
that?”
Sophie, our financial analyst, raised her hand slightly. “I did. It’s all in the appendix. I trimmed down unnecessary expenses to make the margins more attractive.”
“Perfect,” I said. “That’s what I want to hear.”
“Sir.” Sophie said, “we have been working on this project for weeks, and we still don’t know anything about the partner. Do you know anything about them?”
I sighed. “Not much. The investor is a bit discreet. He only mentioned that the partner has experience in similar projects. He is quite… meticulous about the partner.”
“So, we are dealing with a secretive investor who only wants to deal with you and not with others who worked on the project with you?” Sophie asked.
I chuckled “Yeah, tell me about it.”
“Alright,” I said, clapping my hands together. “Let’s run through it one more time.”
We spent the next hour fine-tuning every detail of the presentation. I couldn’t leave anything to chance. By the time we wen done, it was almost time.
“Okay, everyone,” I said, closing my laptop. “You’ve done enough. Go home and enjoy the rest of your day.”
Mark frowned. “Are you sure? We can stay-”
“No, I interrupted firmly. “The partner specifically requested to meet with me alone. I’ve got this.”
As they left, I sat in the conference room, going through the presentation again. I went over it at least ten times.
I checked my phone. The partner was already fifteen minutes late.
“Maybe they’re stuck in traffic, I muttered to myself, trying to stay calm.
Fifteen minutes turned into an hour. Then two.
I leaned back in my chair, staring at the ceiling. Patience was something I didn’t have, but I couldn’t afford to lose my cool.
By the third hour, I was tempted to leave. Who keeps someone waiting this long for a meeting they arranged?
Just as I decided to pack up, the door opened
I froze at the sight of Cassandra.
She was dressed in a tight-fitting yellow suit, her cleavage almost spilling out. Her black hair was styled perfectly in a tight

bun, and her short suit skirt accentuated her curves. If she was trying to look seductive, she failed. I could never be influenced by this tramp.
“Cassandra, what the hell are you doing here?” I asked, hoping it wasn’t what I was thinking.
“You know what? Don’t answer. I want you out of here before you start ruining things for me!” I shouted, calling for my secretary to take her out of my sight.
She smiled, clearly amused by my reaction.
Tm your investor’s partner, love. I’ve been working with them to help fund your project. And I’m sorry I was late-there was a little… hold-up.”
I wished this was all a dream, a bad nightmare I needed to wake up from. Cassandra was the last person I wanted to associate myself with or see. She was manipulative, selfish, hateful, and only cared about one thing-money. I don’t know how I ever fell for her talk, and worse, married her.
“How did you get this contract?” I asked. “The last time I checked, you were all over your ex-husband and didn’t want to associate with me.”
Cassandra stood up from the chair and walked over to me, her heels clicking on the floor. She reached me, put her filthy hands on my shoulder, and whispered in my ear.
“Let’s just say I have my ways. And I must say, I’m impressed. You really have a nice company, and I’ve missed you,” she whispered into my ear.
I shook my head, trying to calm my nerves. I would have walked out the moment she came in, but I had no choice. It was just for a few months; I could manage that.
“If you’re my business partner, act like one. This is strictly a business deal, Cassandra, not a chance for you to trap me in your web of love.”
She pouted, her lips curling downward. “Oh, come on, Damien. Don’t be like that. We can work together and make this project a huge success. And who knows, maybe we can rekindle some old flames. I know you’ve been single since I left you; you can’t get me off your mind. Let’s try and fix things.”
“Cassandra, I think you’re forgetting one thing-we’re divorced, finito, it’s over. And even if we weren’t, I would never go back to a cheating ass like you. You nearly destroyed me once. You cheated on me, lied to me, and ran away with half of my property. I’m not going to give you the chance to do it again.”
‘Oh, Damien, you’ve always been over the top. I’m just trying to make everything right again and do what needs to be done, like starting this project. Let’s not dwell on the bad past, shall we?”
“Exactly Let’s not dwell on the past, because to me, you are nothing more than a business partner. And for your information, I have a thing with someone. But before I could finish my sentence, she interrupted.
“A thing, huh? Not a girlfriend,’ she scoffed.
I looked at her. I tried to say something, but I didn’t have any jabs to throw at her Julie wasn’t my girlfriend yet.
“Just a thing, or better still, a fling, huh? But you and I both know you aren’t someone to play around with. You want something serious, and I doubt if that girl is ready for it What is her name again-Julie, right?”
“Don’t you dare talk about her” I said.
”
A fellow divorcee like you, isn’t she?”
