I hummed softly as I entered the office. I greeted everyone-secretaries, assistants, even the cleaner. Their wide-eyed stares followed me as if I had grown a second head. Normally, I would just walk past without greeting, but today felt… different.
I pushed open the door to my office and settled into my chair with a satisfied sigh. Today was going to be a long day, but meeting with Damien had been worth the stress.
Minutes later, June knocked and stepped in with the morning presentation in hand. Her eyes were on me, as if she were studying me.
“Good morning, June,” I said brightly, pulling my notepad closer.
“And I’m sorry about what happened the other day. I was out of line.”
June didn’t reply immediately. She simply stared, her mouth slightly open. Finally, she blurted, “Okay, what’s going on with you?”
I raised a brow. “What do you mean?”
“You’re acting… strange. Last week, you were storming around here like some corporate tyrant. Everyone was scared to breathe around you. And now…” She waved a hand at me. “You’re humming. You’re smiling. You look-wait a minute.”
I ignored her, flipping through the report she handed me.
June pulled a chair closer, her eyes scrutinizing me. “Julie Jenkins, don’t you dare pretend nothing’s going on. Look at you-yellow dress, hair styled to perfection, makeup glowing… And is that a different shade of lipstick?” She leaned closer, studying me like a detective. “There’s a man involved, isn’t there?”
I scoffed, refusing to meet her eyes. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, June. I’ve got a meeting to prepare for.”
June crossed her arms, smirking, “Oh, sure. A ‘meeting. You can’t fool me, Jules. You look like a woman who’s been struck by love.”
Before I could respond, there was a knock at the door, and Damien walked in.
“Good morning, Mrs. Julie,” he said, his eyes locking with mine. “I just wanted to confirm you’re ready for the meeting”
June turned to me, then to Damien, nodding her head as she smiled. “Well, that’s my cue to leave,” she said, standing up. “Don’t mind me.” She gave me a knowing look before walking

The moment the door closed, Damien turned and locked it. He walked toward the windows and pulled the blinds shut.
“Damien, what are you doing?” I asked.
He didn’t answer. Instead, he walked toward me with a smile on his lips, his eyes lighting up. Before I could say another word, his lips met mine.
I froze for a second, shocked, but then my body couldn’t resist. His hands cradled my face, his lips moving against mine, leaving me breathless yet yearning for more. I gripped his jacket tightly, leaned into him, and pushed him against the wall.
“You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to do this,” he murmured against my lips.
His hands slid down to my thighs, lifting me effortlessly onto the desk. As he kissed me deeper-his lips soft but devouring-I gently hit his upper arms. When his hands roamed over my thighs, it sent shivers down my spine.
“Damien,” I managed to gasp, but he silenced me with another kiss.
The moment felt like it could go on forever-until a knock on the door ruined everything.
We froze. Damien stepped back quickly, running a hand through his hair, while I adjusted my dress and tried to fix my lipstick.

“Come in,” we called simultaneously, our voices a little too loud, a little too rushed.
The door opened, and it was the lady I had met at the hospital-Damien’s ex.
I looked at her, wondering what the hell she was doing here.
“You can’t even control yourselves in the office, huh?” she muttered.
“What are you doing here? Or better still, what do you want, Cassandra?” Damien asked.
“Definitely not you, for now,” she said, moving closer to me..
“I see you have succeeded in seducing him,” she said, looking at me closely.
“Same taste, huh?” she said to Damien.
“You’re dating a replica of me. You like them tall, thin, thick, and alpha females. Same obsession with yellow gowns, huh?” she scoffed, crossing her arms and smiling as if she

owned the entire room.
I couldn’t deny that she was indeed breathtaking.
“Cassandra, you’re being delusional. Get out,” Damien said.
But Cassandra didn’t budge. She turned her attention back to me.

“Oh, Damien, don’t flatter yourself. I’m not here for you.” She took a step closer to me, her eyes locked on mine as though she could see right through me.
I sat there, frozen, feeling as if I were being dissected under her scrutinizing stare. Words failed me. I wasn’t scared-maybe embarrassed?
Finally, I managed to find my voice. “If you’re not here for Damien, then why are you here?”
“Business, of course. I’m working on a few projects, and I thought your company might be interested in collaborating. But…” She paused, moved closer to me, and whispered in my ear, “Just a heads-up-he likes being rocked on.”
She really was something else. “If you’re here for business, then let’s keep this professional. I’m sure you can respect that.”
Damien stepped forward as I pulled Cassandra’s hand. “You have overstayed your welcome. Get out.”
I turned to him quickly. “No, Damien,” I said firmly, surprising even myself. “We don’t chase away potential clients. Let her speak.”
Cassandra’s brow furrowed, clearly entertained. “How gracious of you, Julie.”
Damien shot me a look that said, Are you sure? but I ignored it. Instead, I focused on Cassandra, trying not to look nervous.
If you have a proposal, we’ll consider it. Otherwise, let’s not waste anyone’s time.”
Cassandra chuckled; she clearly was enjoying everything.
“Well, Julie, I must admit, you really are business-conscious. I’ll give you that. Fine, I’ll have my secretary brief you on the proposal.”
She turned, giving Damien one last pointed look before heading for the door.
“Oh, and Julie,” she said, pausing, “Yellow is definitely your color. He likes it,” she added.
“And one more thing, I sure do hope you don’t regret your decision, because I’m not one to make things easy for you,” she said as she walked away.
