Alex POV
“The stunt of texting me in the morning? Don’t ever try that again or even reach out to me. Avery should be the only one to contact me,” I said as I walked out.
Julie really knew exactly how to push my buttons, but I wasn’t going to let her.
“Not this time,” I muttered under my breath as I stormed out of the café.
The nerve of her, trying to dictate how I spent time with my daughter.
Avery called out as I passed her, but I was too furious to respond. I got into my car and drove as fast as I could. I was late-late to the most important function of my career:
the grand production launch.
If tonight didn’t go as planned, I was screwed. Investors would pull out, my production would once again be a huge failure, and Bella’s father would roast me alive. Failure wasn’t an option.
When I arrived, Bella was already waiting at the entrance, her arms crossed. She looked stunning in a red dress, even though her protruding tummy made her appear less curvy.
“You’re late,” she said as I approached.
“I’m sorry, darling. I had some things to deal with,” I said, giving her a quick kiss on the
cheek.
I frowned. “I was spending time with my daughter, Bella. Julie doesn’t matter to me right now. You and our baby do.”
Her expression softened slightly, but she still looked annoyed.
“Come on,” I said, putting an arm around her waist. “Let’s make a grand entrance.”
She smiled reluctantly, and we walked inside.
The evening turned into a marathon of forced smiles and endless small talk. Over and over again, I introduced Bella as my wife, emphasizing her role as my inspiration for the movie we were launching
“This is my fiancee, Bella,” I said for what felt like the hundredth time. “She has been the driving force behind this project. She has truly been my muse.”
Bella smiled, playing her part perfectly, but I could tell she was just as exhausted as I was.
Eventually, I excused myself to use the restroom, desperate for a moment alone. But as I

approached the door, I heard voices inside.
“Alex thinks he’s now a big catch,” one man said.

“Yeah,” another replied. “Because he’s engaged into a wealthy family and now he’s acting like some big-shot producer. Without Bella’s connections, he’s nothing but a washed-up director.”
I froze. As I pushed the door open and stepped inside, glaring at the two men.
“Got something to say to my face?” I shouted.
“Why don’t you say it to my face rather than whining behind my back like a little sissy?” I said, my fist clenched.
The men exchanged glances but didn’t say anything.
“That’s what I thought,” I snapped, shoving past them.
I didn’t ease up anymore. The nerve of them.
Back outside, I lit up a cigarette, as it was the only way I could calm myself down.
This was all her fault. If she hadn’t put me behind bars or taken everything from me, I would have been a big-time producer, bigger than this, without the help of anybody. I wouldn’t have had to hear those assholes talk shit about me like that.
“Sir! Sir!”
I turned to see one of Bella’s assistants running toward me, out of breath and wide-eyed.
“What is it?” I barked.
“It’s Bella! She is in labor!”
My cigarette hit the ground as I ran to meet her, I found Bella struggling in a chair, holding her belly tightly; she was in pain.
“Alex!” she screamed, grabbing my hair as I knelt beside her. “This is all your fault!” she said, tears streaming down her face.
“What?” I yelped, trying to remove her fingers from my hair. “How is this my fault?”
“If you hadn’t stressed me out, this wouldn’t be happening!” she yelled, yanking my hair
harder.
“Bella, I didn’t-ow! Let go of my hair!”
A nurse appeared, trying to calm her down. Bella glared at me through gritted teeth.

“You’re useless!” she shouted as another contraction hit.

“Okay, okay! Let’s get you to the hospital!” I said, practically begging her to release my hair.
Somehow, we got her into the car, though she insisted on gripping my ear this time, as if that would help with her contractions.
“You’re driving too fast!” she screamed.
“I’m trying to get us there!” I shot back.
“Do you want me to give birth in the car?”
“Obviously not!”
As we parked in the hospital parking lot, a team of nurses rushed out to assist. Bella was wheeled away, still shouting curses at me as I followed her.
In the delivery room, she was a different woman; any words that came out of her mouth were just foul words.
“If you ever come near me again, Alex, I swear-AHHH!”
“Breathe, Bella, breathe!” the nurse said.
“I’m breathing! But this son of a bitch is the one taking up all the air!”
I held her hand, letting her squeeze the life out of it. I might have even broken some bones. As she pushed, her grip tightened, and she bit my hand with each push. Finally, after what felt like forever, the baby was out.
“Thank goodness,” I muttered, as exhausted as she was.
“It’s a boy.” the doctor said
I fell to the ground, not bothering to even look at the baby, I was completely exhausted, and my body was in severe pain.
But the doctor’s face changed as he studied the baby. “He’s having trouble breathing. We’re taking him to the NICU.”
Bella’s hand tightened around mine as she heard what the doctor said.
“Is he going to be okay?” she asked.
“The baby needs intensive care and needs to be in an incubator. Right now, we are doing everything we can for the baby to stay with us,” the doctor said before leaving with the baby.
Bella broke down into sobs as she held me tightly.
