Chapter 111 Steven Gets Caught
Seeing Jenny already in tears, Cedric's tone softened a bit, with a hint of tenderness in his sternness. "The reason you can't conceive or sustain a pregnancy is that your uterine lining is too thin to provide enough nutrients. It's like needing five loaves of bread for a meal but only getting a cup of water a day—it's unsustainable."
Jenny was filled with regret and cried even harder.
In her youth, she was naive, dating numerous irresponsible and unfaithful boyfriends, bearing the consequences.
"Dr. Dickson, please help me. I really have no other options!" Jenny's tone was full of fear; she was truly scared.
Cedric sighed and began to write a prescription.
The people in line were inwardly impressed by how unsympathetic Cedric was, even towards women.
Quinn, who was behind Jenny, was even more frightened. Cedric's sharp tongue was as formidable as his medical skills!
Given this, how should she ask for the medicine she came for?
With his personality, would he really sell the medicine to her?
"Dr. Dickson, I'll do whatever you say. Just tell me how to treat it," Jenny spoke softly, her tone full of nervousness.
She waited quietly for Cedric's response, not daring to say anything more.
Cedric retrieved the prescription he had penned and retrieved the medication from the cabinet. After a brief wait, he reappeared with a sizable bag filled with individually wrapped medicines.
Jenny paid, took the medicine, bowed in thanks, and left with the accompanying woman.
Finally, it was Quinn's turn. She took two steps forward, mentally preparing herself.
"Give me your hand!" Cedric said while tidying up the consultation table.
"Dr. Dickson, I came here specifically to see you. I'm not here for a consultation; I'm in good health. I came to buy a herb called Ethereal Veinwort. Do you have it?" Quinn's voice was gentle, and she spoke sincerely.
Cedric looked up and scrutinized her for a few moments. "What do you need this herb for? It's for men."
The people behind her were taken aback by this, causing quite a stir, even more so than the earlier mention of a woman having a miscarriage.
Quinn hadn't expected Cedric to be so direct, and she felt a bit embarrassed, but she continued, "Ethereal Veinwort isn't just for that. It also boosts blood flow, perks up the skin, amps up self-healing, zaps body free radicals, and packs anti-aging and beauty perks."
Seeing Quinn's confident demeanor, Cedric judged that she knew about medicine, at least about herbs, and curiously asked further, "What are you planning to use it for?"
"I'm formulating a medicine and just need Ethereal Veinwort." Quinn knew it was impossible to hide her medical knowledge, so she frankly stated her purpose and even took out the prescription to convince Cedric.
As Cedric reviewed the prescription and heard Quinn dissect the root cause, he grew more thrilled, sensing a connection akin to finding a kindred spirit.
He had actually researched burn recovery formulas, but the results were not ideal and didn't meet his expectations. But Quinn's prescription suddenly gave him a lightbulb moment, breaking through his long-standing confusion and providing a new direction.
Despite Quinn's youthful appearance, Cedric harbored no doubts. Her assured explanation of Ethereal Veinwort's medicinal properties and the prescription she offered solidified her credibility.
"Dr. Dickson, can you sell me this herb? I really need it. I've been looking for it for a long time," Quinn said, her tone sincere and hopeful.
Cedric simply said, "Take it."
Quinn replied, "Thank you, Dr. Dickson!"
It wasn't as daunting as she had feared. Once she displayed her medical expertise, everything fell into place. Acquiring the Ethereal Veinwort left Quinn elated.
Now Carl's hand injury could be completely healed. If she could cure Carl's injury, he might start paying more attention to her, and maybe even fall in love with her.
As she excitedly turned to leave, she saw Steven standing not far away, and her heart skipped a beat.
Upon spotting Quinn, Steven swiftly departed, evoking the sense of being caught in the act. In response, Quinn called out and chased after him, exclaiming, "Grandpa!"
Steven, leaning on his cane, couldn't move as fast as her. Soon, Quinn caught up, and hearing her voice getting closer, he stopped, composed himself, and turned with a smile. "Quinn! I... I was just passing by. Do you believe me? But seriously, what are you doing here? Are you here to buy medicine? Are you feeling unwell?"
Steven, being sharp, quickly shifted the focus to Quinn.
Quinn answered, "Grandpa, I came to buy medicine for Carl, but it's okay, I got it!"
"Carl? What's wrong? Is he sick?" Hearing Carl's name, Steven immediately became concerned.
Quinn said, "No... nothing, Grandpa. I need to go back; I still have work to finish."
Steven replied, "I'll take you."
Without waiting for Quinn to refuse, he took her hand and walked towards the car parked nearby.
Quinn suddenly realized something. "Grandpa, weren't you here to see the doctor?"
"I... When did I say I was here to see Dr. Dickson? I was just passing by," Steven continued walking with her.
"Then how did you know the doctor's name is Dickson? Have you been here before?" Quinn exposed Steven's lie.
Steven said, "I... I haven't. I really was just passing by. Didn't I just hear you say it?"
In reality, Steven inquired about the prenatal medicine he had previously taken. Could it still be used if it didn't lead to pregnancy? Would it have any impact or aid in conception?
After all, since he had installed surveillance cameras, the two had been living together for a long time, yet there were no signs of pregnancy, which made him worried.
Kelly, seeing Quinn get into Steven's car, also got into her car and quietly followed them.
In the car, Quinn, not as serious as she was with Carl, viewed it as a chance and tenderly grasped Steven's arm. "Grandpa, there's something I've been confused about for a long time, and I've always wanted to ask you."
