Chapter 251

Chapter 251
William's POV
"Walter truly cared for you! Elizabeth truly cared for you! Thomas truly cared for you! Henry truly cared for you! Michael truly cared for you! I truly cared for you! But you threw it all away," I said, as I picked up Emily, preparing to take her to the hospital.
"Impossible! You've all been against me since we were children, always against me! It's all fake, all of it! You can die too!" Samuel screamed.
I felt something cold and hard pierce my body.
I lost my balance, and Emily fell to the ground.
Fighting through the pain, I grabbed a chair and smashed it against Samuel's head.
Samuel collapsed, unconscious.
I could no longer stay on my feet and fell to the floor.
In my hazy state, I saw a familiar figure running toward me, tears streaming down her face.
I tried to reach for her, but couldn't.

Lily's POV
I looked at William, Jane, and Emily, all still unconscious, growing increasingly worried.
Since the DNA test results came back, I had known that the woman who had been following me was indeed my mother, Jane Spencer!
"Matthew, why aren't they waking up? It's been a week already," I asked anxiously.
Matthew gave me an exasperated look.
"William's stab wound punctured his lung. It's a miracle he's even alive."
"Jane fell from the third floor and didn't receive immediate treatment. You should prepare yourself for the possibility that she might remain in a vegetative state."
"As for Emily, she's infected with HPV which caused cervical cancer, already in late stages. Plus, the stabbing damaged her uterus. Even after the hysterectomy, it might take months for her to regain consciousness."
Yanni had missed the critical treatment window and died despite resuscitation efforts.
I sat by William's bed, holding his hand. "William, husband, please wake up. When you wake up, we'll get married."
Just then, Lucas sent me a message.
"Lily, I found Jane's rented apartment. Inside were many envelopes addressed to you. I've mailed them to you—by now, you should have received them."
At that moment, the delivery person called.
Looking at the large box, I knew these must be the envelopes Lucas mentioned.
I opened the box to find countless envelopes packed tightly together.
I took the most recent one from the top and opened it.
[Lily, if you're reading this letter, I'm probably dead. I know you must wonder why I left you and James. There were three reasons: 1) Nicholas was searching for me worldwide, so I had to fake my death to escape him; 2) After faking my death, my sister was raped by Walter's brother. Unable to bear the shame, she committed suicide. Nicholas concealed this scandal. When I found out, I decided to avenge my sister—I killed that bastard! 3) As for why I didn't come find you and James, it was because James's health was failing. I traveled the world consulting doctors to save him. This required constant travel, and I didn't want you to find your mother only to lose her again—that would have hurt you. I'm sorry James and I kept this from you. After James died, I also became ill with a tumor. By the time it was discovered, I had missed the optimal treatment window and could only manage it. All these years, I've quietly watched over you. You're exceptional—you make me proud. Although I dislike the Sterling family, if your choice is William, I approve of your marriage. I wanted to reconnect with you, so very much~ Mom loves you, Lily.]
After reading the letter, tears filled my eyes as I collapsed onto Jane's bed. My strong father, the harm done to my sister—it had cost my mother her entire life.
She should have lived happily with my father, and I should have had a healthy, joyful childhood.
But because of these events, her life was ruined.
And the first half of mine as well.
Perhaps my sobbing was too heartbreaking, for William's finger twitched in response.
Matthew exclaimed, "Lily, I think William is responding!"
Hearing this, I rushed to William's bedside. My mother's experience had taught me to cherish the present.
"William, are you waking up? Please, husband, wake up. I miss you."
William's fingers moved again. I grabbed his hand and felt him squeezing back.
William slowly opened his eyes.
My voice was hoarse from crying, making it impossible to speak clearly.
"I heard you crying, so I woke up. What's wrong? You have me, don't be afraid," he whispered.
I choked with emotion, wanting to speak but unable to form words, only continuing to sob.
One month later, William and I held our wedding as planned.
At the ceremony, we gazed lovingly at each other and, witnessed by the priest, vowed to spend our lives together.
Henry watched us from below, whispering, "Be happy, Lily."
Michael seized the opportunity to propose to Beatrice.
"Beatrice, I love you. Will you marry me?"
"Where's the ring? Don't you need a diamond for a proposal?"
"I'll go buy one now!"
"Silly!" Beatrice embraced Michael. "I accept your proposal."
The two kissed passionately.
Lucas also gazed lovingly at Zade.
"Shouldn't we get married too?"
Zade blushed. "You haven't proposed like Michael did..."
Lucas was about to drop to one knee when Zade, face reddening further, quickly stopped him.
"Don't! It's too embarrassing. I accept, I accept!"
Just then, Lucas's phone rang.
After hanging up, Lucas hurriedly left with Zade.
Ten minutes later, Lucas returned pushing a wheelchair with Jane Spencer seated in it.
Lucas shouted, "Lily, Jane Spencer is awake! She asked me to tell you: 'Lily, Mom is proud of you. And William, if you ever mistreat my daughter, I won't let you get away with it!'"
Everyone burst into laughter at this.
I looked at William. Now that my mother was here too, this wedding was truly perfect.
The celebration continued until nightfall. As guests departed, I answered a phone call from Matthew.
"Professor, unless it's important, please don't interrupt my date with my husband."
"The tumor in your mother's body is still treatable. I can cure her. Is that important enough?"
"Really?"
"Hmph!" Matthew snorted before hanging up.
William and I exchanged smiles.
William said, "Samuel will spend the rest of his life in prison. He's paid the price for his actions."
I smiled mischievously. "I have important news for you too."
"What is it?"
"Considering Emily saved your life, I can cure her."
William and I climbed onto the roof to gaze at the stars.
"William, the moonlight is beautiful tonight."
"Lily, the wind is gentle tonight."
The End
