Chapter 250
Chapter 250
Jane's POV
"I'm just standing up for someone I care about. What wouldn't I do for that?" Samuel replied coldly.
I looked into his eyes. "If you care so much for Emily, why are you letting her be with William?"
Samuel lowered his head, a hidden gleam flashing in his eyes. "Because love means sacrifice."
I couldn't help but scoff. "How hypocritical. You constantly compare yourself to William, but in my view, you're not worth even his little toe!"
Yanni shook his head. "I'm sorry, I do like money, but I don't make deals with madmen. The police will be here soon, Samuel. You'll pay for what you've done. I'll tell William everything, and he'll be grateful to me."
Suddenly, Samuel burst into maniacal laughter.
"William! William! William! All my life, everything has been about William! He's like a demon, constantly appearing in my mind! Why does he get to have everything? Why do all women love him?"
"I'm like a clown! I can't even keep the woman I love!"
"If that's how it is!!"
With a vicious look, Samuel pulled a knife from his pants and lunged at Yanni.
In panic, I screamed, "No!"
Before my horrified eyes, Yanni collapsed in a pool of blood.
Emily was terrified too, never expecting Samuel to be so deranged.
"No, no..."
Samuel turned to Emily, smiling.
"Are you afraid, my goddess?"
"No, please, don't kill me," Emily begged.
Samuel gave a wicked smile.
"Don't worry, I won't hurt you. Don't you want William? I have a plan. Want to hear it?"
Emily hesitated, and I quickly interjected, "Don't trust him! He's completely insane now!"
Samuel looked at me. "Don't worry, you're the key to my plan."
"What's your plan?" I asked.
Samuel gazed at Emily.
"If we kidnap Lily's mother, will William show up?"
Without waiting for Emily's response, he continued, "When William comes, I'll drug him, and you can get pregnant with his child. Then you can become William's wife."
Emily barely hesitated. "Fine, I agree."
Then Samuel turned to me.
"Dear lady, when I pursued Lily, she wouldn't even look at me. It hurt me deeply. Would you care to soothe my wounded heart?"
I looked at him in panic.
"What... what are you planning to do?"
"Of course, I want Lily's mother." Samuel licked his lips and turned to Emily. "If you're uncomfortable, you can leave. I'll be quick."
Emily glanced at the bleeding Yanni, then at Samuel. She opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing, taking her clothes and leaving.
I watched Samuel approach, struggling desperately.
"Samuel, you can't do this, you—"
"Fight back! The more you resist, the more excited I get!"
Samuel lunged forward, tearing at my clothes. I kicked him hard between the legs, making him wince in pain.
"Damn bitch!"
Samuel cursed, smashing a glass against my forehead.
I fell near the window.
I knew if this continued, Samuel would violate me. I would rather die than let him touch me.
With my last strength, I stood up and jumped out the window.
It was the third floor!
In my final moment before closing my eyes, all I could see was Lily as a child.
Lily, I'm sorry. Mom is breaking her promise again.
I heard Samuel's cry: "No!!!"
William's POV
I stared at the message Samuel sent. The photo showed a woman I recognized—the one who had saved Lily.
Below was a message: This is Lily's mother. If you don't want her harmed, come alone.
An address followed.
I clenched my fist after reading it.
Looking at the still unconscious Lily, I instructed Henry to take care of her, then left.
In the room, I faced Samuel.
"Where is Jane?"
Samuel smiled and pushed a glass of water toward me. "This contains drugs. Drink it and I'll let you take Jane with you. That's my condition."
I frowned. "You want my life?"
Samuel nodded. "Yes. Either drink this water, or Jane dies. Your choice. Actually, I think you could choose not to drink it. After all, Jane never raised Lily. If she dies, Lily won't blame you. What do you think?"
I looked at Samuel with disgust.
"The biggest difference between us is that I am human! While you are an animal!"
Before coming, I had taken an antidote Lily had given me previously. I wasn't sure if it would work, but I had to take the risk.
Whether or not that woman was truly Lily's mother, the fact that she had saved Lily meant I couldn't stand by and watch her die!
I picked up the glass and, to Samuel's shock, drank it all at once.
"Now, where is Jane?"
Samuel was incredulous.
"Why? How could you dare to drink it? Aren't you afraid—"
"Of course I'm afraid! I fear death most of all. I fear never seeing Lily again, fear leaving her alone in this world. But I fear seeing pain in Lily's eyes even more!"
Lily had said she wanted to find her mother before marrying me.
Now Jane had been found, but I might die.
Samuel's confidence vanished. He stood up, laughing maniacally.
"William! You're pretending! You must be pretending! Haha, it's just us now, yet you keep up this act! You just want me to admit I'm inferior to you? Impossible! I don't believe anyone would sacrifice themselves for others!"
Looking at Samuel's state, I spoke slowly: "Samuel, I believe it. I've seen James willing to do anything to cure Colette. I've seen Alice sacrifice herself to save her mother. I've seen Lily sacrifice her own interests for others... I've seen many such people. They are all my teachers, and I'm willing to sacrifice my life for Lily."
"Samuel, you'll never understand. You're truly pitiful."
I looked at Samuel with pity, not anger. And it was precisely this attitude that provoked him further.
"William! Stop lecturing me! I am the best!"
"Really? Then why are you so angry?"
Samuel had no response. He pulled out a dagger and lunged at me.
At that moment, Emily, who had been hiding, rushed out and took the stab meant for me.
Samuel and I were both shocked.
I watched as Emily collapsed in a pool of blood.
I rushed forward to hold her.
Samuel cried out in anguish.
"Why? Why would you do this?"
Emily glanced at him. "Samuel, you're pathetic. All these years, not a single person truly cared for you. Actually, there was one, but you threw her away."
"William, I'm sorry for all the terrible things I've done. I hope you can forgive me. I switched the water Samuel prepared. He said it was to drug you, but I knew it was poison. I replaced it with regular water, so don't worry."
"Why save me?" I asked.
Emily gave a bitter smile. "I'm dying. Might as well do something good before I go, maybe I'll get into heaven. Samuel killed both Yanni and Jane. You need to run."
After speaking, Emily lost consciousness from blood loss.
Samuel mumbled to himself: "No, how could no one truly care for me? There must be someone, there must be, there must..."
