Chapter 50 If my life went as planned.
Chapter 50 If my life went as planned.
Ursula sat in the car as the driver drove slowly as she had ordered.
He didn't want to let her go anywhere at first because everyone knew that whenever she went out, there was always trouble.
She would either try to run away or something else would happen.
So, he was avoiding that.
But she promised him that she just wanted a drive because she beginning to feel very lonely in the mansion and it was reducing her blood pressure.
He believed her.
He drove slowly.
Ursula's eyes stayed on the window staring at the trees the car passed.
She stared at them and began to imagine a life if her life had went as planned.
She imagined herself in the driver's seat and her mother in the passenger seat of the car she'd have bought for her.
She imagined the high laughter that would bounce off the walls of the cars as they probably had ice cream, talking about their lives, driving to see her father as her mum always promised that she'd let her see one day.
Then, she imagined herself pregnant at the backseat of the car, probably lying down in it as Jared drove to go see her mum where she'd have their baby shower.
The car hiccuped.
Ursula bounced, holding her tummy.
"I'm so sorry about that, road bump. I didn't see that one, ma'am" the driver said.
She nodded.
She imagined herself and Shania graduating from law school together, throwing their graduation caps into the air as a sign of victory.
Soon, her eyes closed and she drifted into a much needed nap.
In her sleep, she began to dream of her past like it was happening in real time.
Shania held her hand and told her she'd never leave her side.
Jared told her he loved her so much and would marry her.
Her mother was cooking breakfast for her, backing her.
"Mom?" Ursula called.
She got up from the dining table to touch her mother and the moment her hand landed on her shoulder, her mother turned into a pillar of ashes.
Ursula gasped and woke up.
When she opened her eyes, it was already evening.
She rubbed her eyes, adjusted her position and exhaled.
"Are we there yet?" She said to the driver.
"In a minute."
Wow, this is really a long drive. Longer than I thought. It's already evening.
Her phone rang.
Jared.
She swiped left and then put her phone on silent.
In a few minutes, the driver stopped.
"Are we there?" Ursula asked.
"Yes, we are. Now, can we turn back, ma'am?" The driver asked.
"Can I..um just take a walk around the park for a while? Then, we go?" Ursula requested.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. I can't let you come down from the car and go into a park that seems to already be closed. For your safety, ma'am. Not that I'm disobeying you, please" the driver explained.
"Well, my legs are swollen and I really need to walk around or else my baby would be affected, please " Ursula whined in a high pitch voice, trying to convince him.
"Promise me, you won't go far, ma'am. Please, I don't want to go to jail if anything happens to you, please. You know how Mr Ethan Blackwood can get" the driver explained further.
"I promise. I'll be back in five minutes. Just a little bit of walking and pacing around. No one will notice that I'm even Ethan's wife, I came with a scarf, so don't worry". Ursula said, wrapping her black scarf around her head and neck.
"Okay"
She quickly stepped out with her phone.
She dialled the number Jared used to call her with.
He immediately picked without giving a second gap like he had been waiting, which of course, he was.
"I'm there" she said, her heart beating.
"Okay, I've seen you. I'm coming" he replied.
She hung up, preparing and adjusting her body to look neutral no matter what.
She kept looking around.
The sunset was turning into darkness.
Everywhere was empty.
Just swings, the familiar waterfall, where the both of them used to go and sit down at.
She shook her head as if to wave off the thoughts.
Then, someone tapped her shoulder.
She almost screamed but held herself, if not the driver would have called a whole team of bodyguards by now.
"Why did you startle me?" she asked ad she turned to see that it was Jared.
He smiled.
Her eyes fell on his usual dreamy eyes and then his pink soft looking lips.
She looked away.
"I'm sorry" he said.
"I have only three minutes to spare. Why did you call me? Make it quick. I'm married."
"Of course" he replied.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out something shimmery.
It was a golden necklace with some pendant that looked like there was a grey powdered substance inside it.
He handed it into her hands.
"What's this?" she asked.
"You don't understand, yet?" He asked softly with a smile.
"No, tell me. I don't have time for riddles, please"
"It's what you desire the most right now. What that demon...I'm sorry...it's your mom's ashes"
Ursula's eyes lightened up.
"What?" Ursula said.
"Yes..I took my time to find out what you really want the most right now and I found out that your....husband never allowed you to do a proper funeral for your mum and I found out that you have been trying to" he said, pleased with himself.
She didn't know what else to say.
She immediately tried to put the necklace around her neck but failed.
Then, Jared helped her fix it, his hand lingering on her neck more than they needed to.
Ursula shook them off.
"Oh.. sorry" he said.
"Thank you...it means a lot to me.."
"I'm so happy I could help"
"I have to go now." Ursula said.
"Okay..thank you so much for coming" he replied.
She tried to lift her feet to start heading back to the car but it was like her feet wouldn't even budge.
And it was like he knew, with the way he was staring into her eyes.
I can't be in love with the man who left me for my best friend and then she died. No.
Jared leaned in closer as if he wanted to kiss her.
She staggered backwards.
"What are you trying to do?" She asked, looking at him from up to down.
"Your hair...it's a little bit tangled in your new necklace" he said, pulled out her hair and straightened it.
The driver honked twice.
"I have to go" Ursula said.
