Chapter 69: Last Wish

Chapter 69: Last Wish
Eleanor
The once confident secretary of state who was standing tall in ten thousand dollar suit and an army of guards surrounding him looked shaken beyond measure you’d have thought he had seen the face of God and he looked at me like I had just discovered fire. Knox smiled at him.
“You boys had your chance, opportunity only comes once” he took out his gun, “who dies first?”
“Guys we can talk about this”
“Oh now you want to talk? Babe he wants to talk”
“Is he valuable to you?” I asked Knox while playing with my blade, finally that thirst to shed blood was getting the best of me and the man right in front of me had made my life hell it was time to pay.
“No”
“You need eyes in the highest office and I can provide the eyes”
“The office will cave in on its own and we will find our own eyes, goodbye Mr. Secretary”
“Wait!”
I snapped my fingers and the remaining guards were taken out. The secretary had his eyes shut and he wet his pants. We laughed so hard that we didn’t see Elliot and Jax approach both of them wielding guns and looking bloody after surviving one hell of a fight back in the warehouse. Elliot had a handful of blood reapers remaining, injured dragging each other out after the group imploded into two.
“Get it over with idiots!”
“Gladly”
Before Knox shot him Elliot double tapped his head with two bullets, we had to move aside right on time before he fell onto us.
“Damn it English!”
“That man has ruined my family. He deserves more than that”
“More than death?” I was confused.
“I mean he deserved to die slowly”
“You just spoiled our fun” Knox wasn’t ready to let it go.
An awkward moment had come, Elliot and Jax with a few men couldn’t take on my team and I who wrote circling them. The old man had fear and regret in his eyes as if he already knew how it was going to end. And he was right, there was no reality in which he was going to leave there alive, he tried to kill both of us once and letting him leave would be a mistake.
“So what next?”
“Axel is dead. I killed him myself. We don’t want any trouble”
“You?”
“Blood reapers” Elliot said looking at Jax wearing remorse like a second skin, “five minutes into a leadership role he already knew how to de-escalate a tense situation.
“Sorry old friend looks like you’re alone. What did you gain?”
“I’m not going to beg you if that’s what you think I’ll do” for a man who knew his fate Jaz was way too confident.
“Relax boys”
As for Elliot, all I could see in him was a partner with whom we could make money together without getting on each other’s bad side and the show of faith in me back at the cemetery was enough for me to trust him
“Back at the cemetery…”
“I finally joined the dots. I’m sorry it took me a long time”
“These streets are big enough for both of us once the dust settles we will discuss regions?”
“Sure”
Our agreement was sealed with handshake. He asked to carry away his dead brothers and I allowed it but after shooting Axel twice more. Later on it came down to Jax and Knox, the later was tied and under watch. A chair was brought for me and I gave Knox the nod, Jax was kicked to his knees and in front of him the man who he had worked a long and build a criminal empire with.
“You’re a man. Don’t listen to that bitch”
“Call her a bitch one more time and I’ll splash your brains all over this place”
“Okay. Go ahead man what do you think she will do to you if you don’t huh? And I know you can’t I’ve seen you grow into a man you are right now. Our bond is stronger than what you have with her we might fight but we will always be brothers”
“Brothers? You tortured me?”
“I’m sure she did too didn’t she?”
Jax was getting smart. He was preying in his insecurities trying to divide his Loyalty one last time and hope he chooses him. That was his pain. Knox chose me, fought through the lain and torture and instead of making it easy for Jax. I didn’t know if he did it for love or to save his skin.
“What’s her excuse? I’m sure that’s mine too. I didn’t trust you and she didn’t trust you. But the question is who do you trust?”
“Anyone but you”
“I wouldn’t have killed you man”
“You should have”
He finally cocked the gun and I stopped breathing. Leave alone the torture and anything else that was the only test of loyalty that mattered to me. It trusted Knox, but he had to prove me right by passing that test.
“Wait!”
I exhaled lazily, whether it was disappointment or relief I couldn’t interpret at that moment. It was hard to think straight at such a time when someone’s life was on the line and another’s trust and loyalty was in question.
“What can you possibly say that will save you?”
“One last time, let’s dance. Three rounds”
Knox turned to look at me, I nodded in agreement. Meanwhile our cleaners arrived and started dragging away the bodies, Jax was suggesting a challenge that was meant to delay the inevitable.
“First round no weapons. Second round swords and the third one guns each round is five minutes” I announced the rules.
“What guarantee do I have that if I win I walk out of here alive?”
“You don’t get to walk out of here alive” they all looked at me, “Because Knox won’t let you survive the first round. Let’s go!”
One of the guards freed Jax and the fight started right away as the two former friends attacked each other in rage. Knox was going easy on him until he realized the old man wasn’t there to play with him I was indeed a matter of life and death. He upped the ante and tried to hit him as hard until they were both exhausted and bleeding. The first round ended and while they were being separated Jax snatched a gun and shot one of men then pointed it to Knox, he froze.
“If am good down am going down with you”
“Once a snake always a snake”
“No. You put us in this predicament when you welcomed that bitch in our lives”
I gave a secret signal and the sniper took out the hand that was wielding the gun. He understood the assignment perfectly. As Jax shrieked in pain I took my own gun and walked up to him.
“When you called for a duel I had a change of heart. Perhaps, you were worth keeping alive and I was planning on legging you live but then what? You do as you’ve always done your whole life”
“And what’s that”
“Go back on your word. In this life your word is your bond. It has to mean something”
“Says the trickster who has been lying for a living”
“I’m not a saint and am not even good enough to judge you but I’ve never switched on my friends unless they deserved it”
In a last attempt of defiance he charged towards me and I had no option to shoot him in the chest before the sniper finished him off.
“I’m sorry babe. It had
to be done. Let’s get out of here we have a country to change”
