Chapter 58: Truth Serum

Chapter 58: Truth Serum
Knox
My comfortable stay turned torturous the moment I said I had no idea where Eleanor Blackheart was. By then my body was already used to the pain and my mind had learned to numb it, no complaining no screaming just taking it on the chin like a man. Unlike my previous captors these ones were a bit careful with the face and vital organs almost as if they cared.
Funny how the mighty had fallen, from being a Don of the most powerful crime family in Fort canon city to being exchanged from one Crime lord to another like a piece of art and all for what? Love? A girl who didn’t even care about me or who was probably dead. I had lost my family and what’s a lion without a pride? A nothing.
The heavy steel doors to my cell opened, I was lying on the cold floor recuperating from the previous round of torture. I quickly sprung up, an old man with surgical gloves and a trolley was escorted in by the guards, one was carrying a steel chair and leather straps.
“What the..?”
“Sit!” He swept me off my feet and forced me on the chair the other guards tied my hands and feet, the light was dimmed and I was given a rubber ball to bite on or rather it was forced into my mouth and the choices were to either bite on it or have it kicked down my throat.
“Good evening tough guy, my name is Dr. Bradley and in not going to hurt you” he said opening the case on the trolley, a drip stand was set up beside me.
He showed me his back while working on his toys. It was their last option for I had an idea of what was about to happen, sweat rolled down my temple I wish they could let me tell them that it was all useless. I didn’t know where Eleanor was but I was going to say anything just to avoid more torture, they had started off where Jax left and all they did was beat me into accepting something I had no idea about. When he turned around he had a syringe in his hands containing a greenish blue fluid. Fuck!
“This fluid you see contains four distinct compounds that are going to make you extremely cooperative. Sodium thiopental for drowsiness and slurred speech, scopolamine for hallucinogenic effect, thiopental for narcoanalysis and my favorite sedative midazolam” he then pressed the needle down my vein.
I was scared of what was going to happen next just like the rest of them. They kept looking at me as though my head was supposed to explode or something, a minute passed, two… there was still nothing then something funny happened. It felt like I left my body and I joined them there looking, my head was light my body was in free fall and I started laughing. The drug had started working I lost control of my major mind functions but somehow I was conscious, watching myself lose my mind.
“There you are”
“You had these drugs all along? Some good stuff”
“Tell us about Eleanor Blackheart” his raspy voice came to me in echoes then I saw him staring down at me and smiled.
My mind tried so hard to fight it. All the resistance I offered melted away and finally I gave in.
“Her name is Emily Dawson. She will always be Emily to me, pretty, smart, secretive and dangerous but the only person who made me feel loved despite the things I’ve done. She might be dead…”
“She is alive and you know where she is”
“…but if she were here I’d tell her how much fun I had the few months we were together”
“Where is Emily then?”
“I have no idea. We left things at a bad place. We fought and she went to her room that’s the last time I saw her…wow! This is great”
My eyes widened in delayed horror as I tried to hold on so much. Despite the chill in the room I was sweating profusely my entire body was numb.
“Try to remember, did she mention anything about a retirement plan, a working station anything that can help us then we can get you more of the good stuff”
“No I can’t”
“You haven’t even tried”
“She owes me a yacht”
“Where is the yacht?”
“I don’t know” I laughed childishly, “You know where they sell yachts?”
The effects of the drug started to wash off and slowly I felt like I was regaining control of my mind and he looked frustrated then in a not surprising move he stared right above the door.
“He doesn’t know anything”
The lights came back on I was freed from the chair and dragged to the bed. The doctor and guards cleared the room. I was angry and traumatized at the same time. My life was one terrible story that had culminated into nothing but misery, pain and betrayal. Jax probably wanted me dead, everyone I cared about was dead. What was I left with? A thought that had never crossed my mind did that day.
With the little strength left in my muscles I went for the pillow, my fingers grabbed it and I slowly dragged it close to me and put it on my face. Before I could suffocate myself to death the guards rushed in like a swarm of bees.
“I thought we agreed you aren’t going to do something stupid”
“Let me out of my misery”
“You’re safe here”
“And yet all you’ve done is torture me and now I’m a lab rat”
“It was a necessary precaution. I think it’s time you met the widow”
Which widow? And what did Eleanor do to her? Probably killed her husband but what was she going to gain by killing me.
“Rest. When you regain your motor function I’ll take you to her but I’m afraid we’re going to have to tie your hands and legs”
What could I say? Since the day she left that had been my life. Shackles were my friends and pain my companion. If there was a chance I could survive that it was going to take me time before getting back to my physical shape.

Eleanor
Catherine had refused to watch the last test. She had asked me to tell her the results and I was on my way until Knox decided to try and end his life. That shook me. What had I done? Of all the bad things I had done to him, lying, destroying his life and even using him, making him think of killing himself hurt me the most. I didn’t know how I was going to face him and if forgiveness was even on the table.
She found me drowning in my sorrows in the office staring in the endless sea outside.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m a monster”
“You’re a good person who has just lost their way”
“I made him think of ending his life Catherine. You can’t defend that!”
Tears welled up my eyes. For a long time I had always found justification for every wrong thing I did and forgave myself, most were a working progress but not that one. It pained me deep in my soul. Catherine held me in her arms and let me cry my heart out. Sometimes you never know how much people mean to you until you are about to lose them or you lose them.
“I just want to be normal” I said amid sobs.
“Honie normal is overrated. I’m sure he will still loves you with your weaknesses and you with his. Your only shot at being normal is finishing what you started. The world out there wants you dead”
“Will he agree to help?”
“We will never know until we try. Besides he has nowhere else to go, no family no friends no money no power. You’re his best chance of sur
vival. Eleanor needs Knox and Knox needs Eleanor”
