Chapter 57: Genesis

Chapter 57: Genesis
After two days of licking their wounds, their silent partner called for a meeting in the same warehouse they sat and vowed to capture Eleanor Blackheart. The only person missing in that meeting was Derrick whose death to both sides was a mystery that didn’t need solving.
Their silent partner was not happy and he couldn’t hide his frustrations although contrary to the earlier claim he didn’t need Axel it looked like he did after all and Jax too. Law enforcement was yet to get any leads on Eleanor, all the ports were checked there was no sign of her and they were running out of time.
“What we know is she doesn’t have the chimera”
“How sure are you?”
“She’d have used it to blackmail us by now I know how she thinks”
“You don’t know shit man” Jax spoke for the first time and his tone said it all. He was sick and tired of pretending their union was bearing any fruits as far as finding Eleanor was concerned.
Axel looked at him surprised, their silent partner who until then only Axel knew his real face-not that it was something to brag about-was left perplexed. They both waited for an explanation from Jax instead he instigated a finger pointing exchange.
“The bank was your mistake”
“We had Intel it was her a ninety-nine percent match on the facial recognition software. Somehow she has mastered the art of being in two places at the same time”
“It’s not possible. The bitch can’t be that smart who is she anyway?”
Who was Eleanor Blackheart? There was no one alive willing to shade some light on who she really was not even the guy in the government who was somehow supposed to know every secret there was on anyone. A government that spied on its own people under false pretence of keeping them safe.
“A criminal like you guys and she is not as  good as they make her seem out there she is just a normal human being with blood in her veins. She has been a step a head of us all this time. I think it’s time you guys cleaned your houses”
The finger pointing got more obvious, they were talking about Jax who was still irritated by that loss and he wasn’t going to take any criticism lying down.
“My house is clean. Everyone in my organization is behind me and anyone who dared help her is dead”
“Where is Knox?”
That was a big question one he didn’t have an answer to. It was like Knox disappeared into thin air and no one really had any idea where he went whether he was dead or alive.
“If he is alive he will be found. But I’m sure he doesn’t know anything”
“It’s my belief that Knox has been helping her all this time. There’s no way she outsmarted us”
Well to Jax that was impossible since Knox had been incarcerated and under surveillance for twenty four hours a day. He had no access to a phone except that one time he tried to escape and that didn’t materialize that much. He hated Knox, he felt betrayed but he just didn’t see how he was the mole. There must have  been a mole in another camp but not his.
“Can we get some things done instead of this nonsense. For instance why don’t you tell us this chimera thing what it really is?” Axel came back in.
He was In a good mood that day so he started from the very beginning although his version edited a few things to keep Jax in the dark.
One and a half years ago
Some of the top intelligence officials in the government stumbled upon the files of their colleagues that linked them to very heinous crimes ranging from human trafficking to drugs and child trafficking, money laundering, pornography, organ trafficking, murder for hire, extortion and coercion all the crimes you can think of. There was a crime syndicate in the government that involved a few powerful men, guys at the top of the food chain.
While some officials were swayed and bought one stuck on his principles. His friends were given a cut in the dirty business and switched sides but he found two young NIS agents who had a solution to his problem. A spyware program that could gather all the information on the rogue officials to build a case against them. One of those agents was a former school mate to Damon Reed.
That evening after another date with Emily, Damon headed to the agreed meeting point to see his former classmate. It was some dark alley in the outskirts of the city and not a really perfect place to meet when planning to build a software company. First he had to make sure he wasn’t followed by anyone and he had to come alone.
“Are you alone? Were you followed?”
“No. Quite a bizarre meeting place don’t you think?”
“Dude what we are about to tell you can’t leave this car” he opened the van.
“Who’s this?” Damon asked when he saw another guy in the back.
“He is a friend”
“Wow! Man your tattoos are cool are you really part of a gang?” The nerdy friend was happy to see Damon although he didn’t share his enthusiasm.
“Yes. Can we get to why I’m here?” He wiped his glasses and put them back on, “I need to get going I have another date tomorrow with this hot chick way out of my league”
After offering a series of explanations about why they were really there and showing him what they were working on Damon realized it wasn’t a software company they wanted him to help them build it was instead a criminal empire the exact thing he was thinking about and what his date had kept mentioning to him. Starting his own family being independent a man who calls the shots. She didn’t like his elder brother that much and maybe it was love or hormones but all of a sudden he shared her sentiments.
“Guys this is our ticket to immortality” Damon was overjoyed.
“What do you think we can do with this?”
“We can become powerful, we can run the streets and build ourselves into a powerful crime syndicate”
“He is talking blackmail” the nerd was fearful.
When Damon’s friend realized what he was insinuating he thought about it for a minute and bought the idea. The idea of being powerful and having all the money they wanted to feed them for generations by simply blackmailing powerful people. Sounded like a plan to him.
“Told you, he is a criminal he knows how to do this stuff. We can be brokers of information”
“And throw away our lives?”
“Relax nerd. You make way more in crime than you’ll ever make seated behind a desk in some boring secret government building”
“Don’t worry he will come around. Let’s keep working we will reach out when it’s ready”
“Let me know anything you need. A secret working base, money, resources, booze, whores anything I need you guys well taken care of so you can work”
“Wait, you can get us girls?”
“Horny bastard. Fuck yeah!” Damon left the back of the car counting air.
Too bad he wasn’t supposed to tell anyone but still he was elated. There was chance he could become very powerful even more than his brother and his parents. The two vehicles left the alley and went in different directions. It was that meeting that ruined Damon’s life, it was the promise of a better life that set him on a path that had no return. It was also that meeting that that made him realize who his brother really was.
