Chapter Seventy-Nine
Chapter Seventy-Nine
Five Years Later
Cassandra's POV
I stood in the bathroom, pacing back and forth before the counter. I stopped glancing at the clock on my cellphone for what seemed like the tenth time then began pacing once more.
I shook my hands out as I kept this little act up for the next four minutes. My head was telling me it was a lie but my heart was telling me otherwise. I wasn't sure which one I should listen to.
My mates weren't here, they were out on Alpha business while I stayed behind to make sure the pack was kept in check. Not that we ever had any issues, maybe the occasional rogue slipping in, but none were really a threat.
A loud knock caused me to jump and I stopped pacing. "Mom, we're gonna be late!" Silas' voice called through the door.
I mentally facepalmed and checked the time again. "Shit shit shit." I cured and grabbed my things from the counter and rushed for the door. "I'm sorry, I lost track of time." I apologized and spun my teenage son around and pushed him towards the foyer.
As we passed through I grabbed the keys and heard Silas groan. "You're driving? I'd rather shift and risk everyone seeing me naked than get in the car with you."
"Hey, I'm not that bad of a driver." I smiled at his exaggeration.
"Mom!" He stopped and turned to face me. "You hit two mailboxes and somehow managed to swerved into the opposite lane multiple times the other day."
I placed my hands on my hips, the keys clashing together in a loud jingle. "We will be fine. Now go get into the car while I grab you-"
"I've already eaten." Silas interrupted.
"Then why are we still standing here?" I raised an eyebrow at him in question.
"Because I'm waiting for someone to walk by that can take us." And right on cue Alpha Noah entered the foyer and a huge grin appeared on my child's face, causing me to narrow my eyes at him.
"Yo, gramps can you drive Mom and I to my football game?"
Noah's almost white eyebrow raised as he looked at Silas then over at me. A slow smirk growing on his face as he assessed us. "Sorry but I can't little man, I'm only here to grab a few things for my wife. I promised her I wouldn't be no more than a half hour."
"See, now please go get in the car." His eye darted between his grandfather and me before he sighed dramatically. "If we die then it's your fault old man." he exclaimed as he walked out of the front door and to the vehicle.
"Still learning how to stay on the road?" Noah chuckled softly.
"No, I'm still trying to stay focused while behind the wheel. I'm easily distracted." I smiled innocently as I faced him. "I blame my wolf."
Noah chuckled. "Perhaps she wants to hang her head out the window." he supplied causing her to growl and me to giggle. "I have a wife to get back to. Oh and drive safe."
"Yes sir, thank you I will." I rushed out, and quickly seated myself in the car. Silas, being extra dramatic today gripped his seatbelt in one hand and whispered a prayer to whoever would listen to him. I laughed at him and rolled my eyes. Not sure who he gets his theatrics from, but I know it isn't me.
Later that afternoon I bumped into Mary, I quickly caught the clothes that she carried, apologies instantly flowing from my mouth. I have been such a clutz here lately and it was beginning to irk my own nerves as much as it was everyone else's I'm sure. "Mary I'm sorry, I didn't see you when I came around the corner."
"Oh don't fret, Luna. I couldn't see two feet in front of me with this load." She giggled.
"Need any help?" I offered.
"Nah, I got it. But if you don't mind, could you move the clothes from the washer into the dryer for me?"
"You bet." She gave me a smile and went off into the living room to fold the clothes she had piled high in the basket she was carrying. I shook my head and stood there trying to remember what I was doing. A small smile formed on my lips and I continued my walk towards the stairs. Seeing Silas coming down then I felt the need to remind him it was a school night. "Don't stay up too much longer. I don't want you to be late again." I gave him a pointed look.
"The only reason I was late this morning wasn't because of me." He stopped and lowered his phone, the beeping and gunfire I could hear coming from his cell phone was loud. I wondered how this kid could hear anything to begin with."What were you doing in the bathroom for so long anyways? Because you didn't apply any makeup nor did you dress to impress!" He furrowed his brows, trying to figure me out.
"First off, you don't question me and what I do in the bathrooms. I don't question why you take three hour long showers now do I?" I quirked an eyebrow at him with a smirk forming.
"Oh goddess mother, you didn't have to make it so damn personal." He placed his hand on my mouth as I opened my mouth. "I know, I'm sorry for the language. But you see my point." Silas smirked and stepped past me.
I turned around slowly and watched him turn around the corner. Did he just scold himself and then walk off without giving me a chance to reprimand him for cursing? I would probably be mad if I wasn't so impressed with how smooth he did it. This is what I get for allowing him to visit with his older brothers during the summer. They're teaching him how to get away with bad language.
I shook my head then went on my way up to my room. Entering I dimmed the bright light above to about forty percent then walked over to my dresser and pulled out some clothing. I snatched up my purse when I found what I wanted to wear and entered the bathroom.
I sety things down on the counter then went over and turned the shower on. I then turned back to where my purse was sitting with my clothes and but my lip. Maybe I should wait, I've already waited all day, maybe I could do another twelve hours? I shook my head just as the idea of waiting a second longer was even possible for me. I'd explode if I tried that. And I dang sure wouldn't get any sleep.
I sighed and walked over and opened up my bag. I dug through it and my breathing hitched as my fingers curled around it. I bit my tongue and pulled it out. I looked up at the ceiling praying to the goddess above that I was wrong about this.
I took a deep breath and looked down at my hands then flipped it over. My stomach sank to the cold deaths of the Atlantic Ocean and a cold sweat began to form on the back of my neck.
Down in my hands, I was holding a white and blue test strip that spelled out in large capitalized letters how certain my fate is now that I've seen it. I can't keep this to myself, they would eventually find out if I don't tell them. I looked up at the clock to see when they should be home. It's nine thirty. They will be home in about four hours. Maybe five.
I sighed and closed my eyes. How does one tell three men that each lives you as much as you do them, that you're pregnant. We agreed to no kids. They used protection every time. Then I remembered a few weeks back that the protection broke just before he...finished, but for the life of me I couldn't remember which one it was.
I don't believe in accidents that for sure. Just happy miricals. That's what I've called e
very child I've carried. I'll get over it, and I pray that they will too.
