Chapter 19
Chapter 20
LILA'S POV
I'm informed that it had been three days since I had passed out.
Which didn't add up because, in those three days, as they said, all I had been trapped in was the dream of being in the woods.
After falling off the cliff when I had been running from the rogues, I had blacked out in my unconscious state.
Reawakening to see that I was seated with an unfamiliar lady.
She didn't look human.
And yet, she looked too ethereal to be just a werewolf.
She looked like a goddess.
She hadn't introduced herself, though, saying that our time was limited and I had to return to consciousness soon.
She asked me to warn the alpha twins about the upcoming rogue attack.
A plan the rogues were secretly coming up with.
If we didn't find a counter solution, their attack would wipe out a huge number of the pack.
Many lives would be lost, and the pack members would suffer greatly.
I had countless questions to ask her.
Starting with, Why me in the first place?
Why was I the one to find myself mated to the brothers?
Find myself in a different pack from the one I grew up in?
So far, away from home.
Why did I have to live through so many unfortunate events?
And most importantly, who was she?
But when did I manage to ask one question, being who she was? She had just smiled at me.
“That's a question you already know the answer to, my child… All your questions have answers… You just have to search deeper.” That was her reply.
And then she had snapped her fingers, and everything around had faded.
The small, warm, beautiful cave I was seated in with her, the woods around, and the sounds of birds chirping and other animals in the woods.
Nothing but void.
And then a bright light attacked my eyesight, and the next minute, I was opening my eyes in the infirmary, just in time to interrupt Kael and Alec from fighting.
Two hours later, and I've managed to retell everything in the best way I could.
They didn't seem to need much convincing, as they believed me immediately, something I was thankful for.
Because I didn't know what to say if they chose to doubt my story or ask more questions.
I, myself, didn't have any answers to my questions.
Alec points out that the period when I had suffered a seizure was probably in time with when I had fallen off the cliff in my dream.
It might have been a physical reaction to the unconscious state I had been trapped in.
Wherever my mind had been for these three days had to run on a slower timing system than the waking reality.
Must explain why a dream which felt like it lasted for about three hours was actually for three days.
“Good day, ma'am.” I look up from the book I'm reading to smile at the person who has just walked in.
“It's so good to see you, Isabella.” She smiles back warmly, coming to a seat by the hospital bed.
The pack doctor had suggested I stay admitted for one more night to keep a closer watch on me.
Rechecking my vitals and just being cautious of any new developments before discharging me.
Kael had left to go pay someone a visit.
He had been secretive about the details, only reassuring me that he would be back to spend the night with me.
Alec had hurried off to organise a meeting with every security profile, pack warrior and border patrol guard in light of the coming threat.
I had been occupied with my book since they left this morning.
It made me happy to see Isabella.
I felt like she was fast becoming a very close friend.
“I'm so relieved that you're awake, Lila. You scared us all.” She admits giving my hand a small squeeze.
“I was told you conducted CPR on me when I was found in the pool… Thank you; I can't appreciate you enough.” I state, and she gives me a small shrug.
“It was nothing really; I wished I could do more… How's your head now?” She asks, and I sigh.
“I still feel a slight jabbing pain at intervals, but with the medication the doctor prescribed for me, I should be fine soon. Neela and I are really tough.” I joke, and she nods with a small laugh.
“That I agree with; you'll make a wonderful Luna someday. Soon it'll all be official after the Luna ceremony.” She replies, to which I feel my tummy twist in nerves.
The ceremony was usually set to take place three months after the marriage between an alpha and his chosen mate or bride.
I would develop a close bond with the pack and an even closer one with my husband.
Was I ready to throw my feelings for Alec away?
After the Luna ceremony, there would be no turning back.
I would forever be tied to Kael.
And it had been a month; it was coming soon.
“Do you know what happened to Camille?” Her face becomes sour at the mention of my sister.
“Alec ordered that no one speak of her name… I'm sorry, Lila, I'll go get you something to eat; you must be hungry.” With that, she hurries out of the room.
Had Alec done something to Camille?
I must've dozed off while waiting for Isabella to come back because when next I opened my eyes, the room had gotten dark.
Night had fallen over the place, and the lights were switched off.
The door creaks open softly as someone steps in, and I squint my eyes trying to make out who it is in the dark.
“Isabella, is that you?” I call out softly at the definitely female silhouette approaching my bed.
Where were Kael or Alec even?
They were meant to be back by now.
And Isabella too.
The person doesn't reply to my question. Neither does she stop moving.
This wasn't Isabella.
So, then, who was she?
As I open my mouth to scream in panic, she holds out a pillow I hadn't noticed she was carrying behind her back before and jumps on me, pressing it down to my face.
