The Shattered Peace

The Shattered Peace
The cold fluorescent lights of the student security building hummed overhead, casting a sterile glow over the tense group.

Lily’s hand was still trembling in midair, her eyes burning with fury as they locked onto Ethan’s smug, composed face.

Lena’s fingers closed around her wrist.

“Lily,” Lena said softly but firmly, her voice cutting through the room like a bell, “don’t.”

Lily turned her head sharply, her eyes brimming with tears of rage.

“Let go, Lena! He deserves it—”

“No,” Lena insisted, her grip tightening as she slowly lowered Lily’s hand. “Slapping him will only make this worse. You’ll give him exactly what he wants—a reason to twist things against you. You need to calm down.”

Ethan’s thin lips curled into a satisfied smirk as he watched them. He folded his arms across his chest, his eyes glinting with condescension.

“Listen to her, Lily,” he drawled, his voice carrying that insufferable mix of amusement and superiority. “You wouldn’t want to end up here with the others, would you?”

“Shut up, Ethan!” Lily spat, straining against Lena’s hold.

But Lena was immovable, her dark eyes fixed on Lily with a steady intensity.

“He’s baiting you. Don’t fall for it. You’re smarter than that.”

For a long moment, Lily just stood there, breathing heavily, the scent of disinfectant and cold metal permeating the room.

Finally, with a ragged breath, she pulled her hand away and took a step back, her shoulders slumping.

“Good,” Lena murmured, releasing her hold.

Just then, the door behind them slammed open with a metallic clang, and Aiden strode into the room, his stormy eyes scanning the scene.

His tall figure filled the doorway, his powerful presence radiating an energy that made even the guards at their desks look up warily.

His gaze locked onto Lena first.

“I was right behind you. How did you get here so fast?”

Lena offered a tiny, almost imperceptible shrug.

“I ran.”

Aiden’s eyes flicked past Lena to Ethan. The air seemed to snap with tension as his voice dropped to a dangerous growl.

“Ethan. What. Did. You. Do.”

Ethan’s smirk didn’t waver. He stepped forward, completely unbothered by the rage boiling in Aiden’s eyes.

“Oh, just teaching the dear Alpha twins a lesson.”

Aiden’s fists clenched at his sides, his knuckles whitening.

“You set them up. You let them beat you so you could file charges.”

“Precisely,” Ethan said, his voice low and smooth, almost bored. “Lucas and Liam think they can solve everything with fists. Graham is no better. I’m just...accelerating their education in consequences.”

Lily gasped.

“You’re insane! Do you even hear yourself?”

Ethan’s eyes snapped to her, his expression shifting to something almost tender.

“Lily, don’t you see? I’m doing this for you. You can never have peace with them in your life. Violence follows them like a shadow.”

“You mean you’re trying to destroy them!” Lily shouted, her voice cracking.

Aiden stepped closer, his muscles taut.

“You’ll regret this, Ethan.”

But before Aiden could close the distance, Lena slipped between them, pressing a hand against his chest.

“Aiden, no. Don’t. He wants a scene. We won’t give it to him.”

Aiden’s chest heaved under her palm. His eyes burned into Ethan, but slowly, painfully, he took a step back.

Ethan’s smile was wolfish.

“That’s right. Listen to her.”

Lena turned her cold gaze on Ethan.

“Leave, Ethan. Now.”

He paused, looking around the room, his eyes lingering on each of them—the twins behind the holding cell door, their faces thunderous with fury, and Lily, pale and shaking. His smirk widened.

“You’re all so...predictable.”

Then he walked toward the door, his steps slow and deliberate, each footfall echoing through the silent room. He paused with his hand on the knob.

“Consider this a gift, Lily—a chance to start over. Without them.”

“Get out!” Lily screamed.

Ethan just laughed softly, then stepped through the door, closing it behind him with a final, almost mocking click.

For a moment, no one moved. The tension in the room hung like a suffocating blanket.

Then Lily’s legs gave out and she collapsed to her knees, tears streaming down her face. Lena and Maya dropped beside her, pulling her into a fierce hug.

“Thank you,” Lily sobbed into Lena’s shoulder. “Thank you for stopping me. I wanted to hit him so bad. I—I just—”

“I know,” Lena murmured, stroking her hair. “But that would have only given him more ammunition. You did the right thing.”

Behind them, the metallic rattle of the cell door being unlocked snapped everyone’s attention to the other side of the room.

Their lawyer—a man in a perfectly tailored dark suit, his hair slicked back—stepped inside, a thick folder in his hand.

“I’m Robert Hawthorne,” he announced, his voice crisp as he surveyed the room with practiced authority. “Family counsel for the Alpha twins and their Beta, Graham.”

Lucas and Liam stood just behind the cell door, their faces a mirror of fury and disbelief. Graham sat on the bench inside, elbows on his knees.

Robert continued, flipping open the folder.

“Gentlemen, the situation is grave. You’re not only facing charges of assault, but also allegations of attempted murder and intent to cause grievous harm. These are serious felonies.”

The words dropped like bombs in the room. Lily let out a strangled gasp. Even Aiden’s eyes widened.

Lucas slammed his hand against the bars.

“That bastard filed attempted murder charges?!”

Robert’s eyes were icy as he nodded.

“He did. And I won’t sugarcoat this—if this goes to trial and a jury believes his story, you could be looking at years behind bars.”

“But he planned it!” Liam roared, his eyes wild with rage. “He wanted us to attack him!”

Robert raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t doubt it. But proving that in court is difficult. Especially since Ethan has a medical report showing extensive injuries, and your reputation for violence doesn’t help.”

Graham looked up, his voice hoarse.

“What do we do?”

The lawyer closed the folder with a decisive snap.

“The only viable option is to convince Ethan to drop the charges. Otherwise, we prepare for a legal battle you might not win.”

Silence fell into the room. Everyone’s faces were pale, the weight of the moment settling in.

Lena stood up slowly, her eyes flicking toward the door Ethan had vanished through.

Inwardly, she couldn’t help but feel a grudging respect for her twin brother.

Ethan had orchestrated everything perfectly—he had baited the Alphas, taken the beating, and now held all the cards.

He had them exactly where he wanted them.
