Chapter 12

Chapter 12
Seeing the dead hare helplessly lying on the ground, Jane couldn't believe she was the one who took it down.
Though she knew these were medieval times, a part of her was still against animal cruelty. The only reason an animal should be taken down was if she was hungry or attacked her.
She was knee-deep in guilt since her belly was full and the hare hadn't stumbled here by accident.
Augh~
Jane stared at her trembling hands, as though they were those of a cold-stone killer. Thus, Alexander's blatant praise resulted in a whirlpool of fury thrown at him.
"Rude guy! I don't understand how you can be so heartless towards a little one. It probably has its own family. And you've deprived it of a warm meal and a nice sleep beside its wife for no reason!"
Alexander thought his ears were playing with him. The woman's brains were made of wall paste!
"Let me understand this," Alexander began. "You're coming down on me because it's now deprived of spending time with its family?"
"Exactly! It could have enjoyed a warm bed with its wife. But now it's dead."
"True. But 'tis not I who killed--"
"I don't care! Have some damn guilt for once!"
"Are you ordering me, English?"
His voice was rigid enough to make her soft, but Jane was determined to keep her stance.
"No. I'm not ordering you around, but it wouldn’t kill you to do so, right?"
"It would, and for your information English, the hare is a lass."
Jane coughed to hide her shame. "He, she, who cares? My point is that it was deprived of its home and family so it's only right to feel guilt."
Seeing Alexander lick his lips, Jane suddenly felt an explosion go off in her mind after recalling the passionate kiss they shared.
From her face down to her neck, Jane turned tomato-red from shame. It was only now that she realized Alexander was back to holding her again.
God help her. She was never going to look him in the eye again.
"You-you-you---"
Watching the stammering woman struggle within his grasp, Alexander soon became amused.
Leaning closer to her ears, his breath made Jane recite prayers in her heart, except these prayers were for exorcists sending demons away.
Jane knew she should yank his hands away from her neck. But a large part of her didn't want him to let go.
"English, ye be sweeter than all the honey in the land. How can yer body be so sweet but yer mouth so foul?"
Did he just insult her?
Jane's anger was about to erupt but was broken by Alexander's electric tongue. When he killed back, her mind was completely blank.
"Be honest English, ye like me. I can feel your body quaking from my touch. Ye be the first woman I fancy. But if ye are to be mine, you must obey me, English and never challenge me again."
Wives were a nuisance, ones he decided to live without. Even his so-called fated lover has long been brushed off by him. He had no plans to marry. As for the need for an heir, he planned to choose a respectable woman to bear his children by 25.
There were hundreds of women who would jump at the chance to carry his child despite knowing he won't be marrying them.
He used to think this way. But the sudden appearance of the lass made him feel it wouldn’t be so bad to enjoy the pleasures of the flesh with someone he fancied.
The lass's smile made his wolfish self want nothing more than to take her into his arms to satisfy his urges.
Her unique and feminine scent whisked into his nose, enticing him for more. No woman has ever made him feel this way.
For the little lass, he was willing to lure her into his trap. He felt even better after deciding on her since it would be a direct attack on his so-called fated one.
"Who said anything about being your woman?" Jane retorted before storming off in fury. If she were a cartoon character, steam would be fuming off her head by now.
Obey? Obey who?
As a modern woman, she wasn't the sort to sit back and nod her head at everything a man says just because they are the 'head' of the house.
Partnership requires everyone's voice.
If her suggestions were invalid, he could discard them. However, for partners to make decisions without even informing their other halves was something she would never tolerate.
Do you know how many men have dragged their women and families down in this era because they never discussed matters with their wives before taking action?
Some men committed treason and had their wives and children beheaded alongside them after getting caught.
For others, their partners at home got raped, killed and butchered while they fled into hiding after committing their dastardly plans.
So yes! If you're going to make decisions that could put her life in jeopardy, you bloody well tell her about them!
She would never be the kind to obey and bob her head at his every instruction like a chicken.
Bah!
Jane slapped her head.
Why was she even thinking that far ahead? Who said anything about being with that barbaric man?
She couldn't lie to herself. Strangely enough, she indeed felt something for him though they had just met. But this wasn't enough to cloud her reasoning.
Jane was mostly annoyed with herself for letting her heart throb for him.
"English..."
"WHAT?!"
"Yer going the wrong way."
