Chapter 50

The moment Leon and Elara stumbled back into the world of the living, the ground beneath them shook.

A rift tore through the sky, splitting it like shattered glass. The battlefield, once filled with the clash of steel and magic, had fallen into an eerie silence. Warriors on both sides stood frozen, their gazes locked onto the impossible sight above them.

And then—

Draven stepped through.

He emerged from the tear in reality, his form wreathed in unnatural shadows. His cloak billowed in an unseen wind, his crimson eyes burning with something ancient, something hungry.

Elara’s stomach turned.

He wasn’t just stronger.

He had become something else.

The power of the Abyss coiled around him, warping the air, darkening the light. The very earth beneath his feet withered, turning to blackened dust.

Leon was already on his feet, sword in hand, his body tense like a coiled spring.

Draven smiled.

“You took your time,” he mused, his voice a smooth, cold whisper that echoed across the battlefield. “I was beginning to wonder if the Abyss had swallowed you whole.”

Leon’s grip on his sword tightened. “You talk too much.”

Draven chuckled, tilting his head. “And you still don’t know when you’ve already lost.”

The shadows around him lunged.

The Last Stand Begins

Leon moved first.

His blade sliced through the darkness, cutting away the tendrils of shadow reaching for him. The moment his feet touched solid ground, he launched forward, closing the distance between himself and Draven in a heartbeat.

Their swords clashed, the impact sending a shockwave through the battlefield.

Elara didn’t hesitate. She raised her hands, magic crackling between her fingers. Silver fire erupted from her palms, streaking through the air toward Draven.

But he was ready.

Draven twisted, raising a hand. The moment Elara’s magic struck him, the flames died—swallowed by the Abyss itself.

He turned his crimson gaze on her. “That won’t work anymore.”

Elara’s heart pounded. No.

He had absorbed the Abyss.

And now it was part of him.

Leon struck again, his blade a blur of steel and fury. Draven blocked effortlessly, his own sword twisting in his grasp like liquid shadow. He countered with a brutal downward slash, forcing Leon back.

Draven was faster now. Stronger.

And he was playing with them.

Leon bared his teeth. “You’re stalling.”

Draven smirked. “And yet, you’re the one bleeding.”

Leon blinked—then felt it.

A thin line of red dripped from his side. He hadn’t even seen the strike land.

Elara’s panic surged. “Leon—”

He raised a hand. “I’m fine.”

Draven exhaled, tilting his head as if in boredom. “Is this it? After all your struggle? All your hope?” He took a step forward. “Where is the fire, Elara?”

Elara gritted her teeth. “Burning,” she whispered.

Then she unleashed it.

Elara’s Fury

Draven had expected hesitation.

What he got was a storm.

Elara slammed her hands together, and a pillar of silver fire erupted around her. The force of it sent cracks through the battlefield, scorching the very air. Warriors scrambled back as the heat roared outward, unstoppable.

For the first time, Draven’s smile faltered.

Elara threw everything she had at him.

A wall of fire crashed toward him, but this time, it didn’t fade. It tore through his shadows, burning away the corruption clinging to him.

Draven hissed, his form flickering.

Leon saw the opening and took it.

With a roar, he drove his blade forward, aiming for Draven’s heart.

Draven barely dodged in time. The sword slashed across his chest, cutting deep.

For the first time since stepping through the rift—

Draven bled.

He staggered, his hand flying to his wound. Black ichor dripped between his fingers. His crimson eyes narrowed.

Leon grinned. “Not so invincible, are you?”

Draven’s lips curled in something that was not quite a smile. Not quite human.

“You’re right,” he murmured.

Then he raised his free hand—

And the battlefield screamed.

The Endgame

The ground ruptured.

Black tendrils of the Abyss shot up, grasping warriors—both Draven’s forces and Leon’s alike. Shadows dragged them down, their screams cut short.

Leon’s breath caught. “No—”

Draven wasn’t fighting to win.

He was breaking the world.

Elara reached for Leon’s arm, her voice urgent. “We have to end this now.”

Leon’s jaw clenched. He knew.

Draven sighed, his expression almost disappointed. “I expected more from you both.”

Elara stepped forward. “And I expected you to die the first time.”

Draven’s eyes flashed.

Leon moved first.

Elara was right beside him.

Their final stand had begun.
