Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Brianna’s pov
I burst out of Logan's house, my head spinning with fury and disbelief. How could he propose such an idea? No to invite my father to our wedding? It was unimaginable. However, while I made my way home, my anger started to fade, giving way to a persistent feeling of uncertainty.
Deep inside, I realized that Logan wasn't completely mistaken. My dad was a multifaceted individual, capable of immense compassion and significant harshness. I had witnessed him wield power and sway over those nearby, employing his riches and authority to obtain his desires. And I had noticed how he stared at Logan, with a detached, evaluative look that sent chills down my spine.
Upon entering my home, I experienced a feeling of discomfort. My dad wasn't at home, yet I was aware that he would return shortly. And when he arrived, I would need to address him regarding Logan's claims.
For the moment, I had another strategy. I headed directly to my father's study, my heart racing in my chest. I understood that I was risking it by rummaging through my father's personal area. However, I needed to discover the truth.
I started to go through my father's documents, searching for any hints that could indicate he was organizing something. Yet as I looked, I discovered nothing. No secret notes, no questionable papers. Only the standard business documents and financial statements.
I exhaled deeply, experiencing a blend of relief and disappointment. Perhaps Logan was simply being overly cautious. Perhaps my father was genuinely attempting to reconcile.
However, as I was about to exit, I noticed something from the edge of my vision. A tiny, concealed space in my dad's desk drawer. I hadn't seen it earlier, but now it appeared clear.
With my heart pounding, I opened the compartment and discovered a tiny, leather-covered book. I opened it, and my eyes grew wide as I beheld what was inside.
It was a diary, penned in my father's own writing. As I turned the pages, I noticed it was packed with notes and strategies, all focused on one goal: eliminating Logan.
A shiver coursed through me when I came to understand the reality. Logan was correct. My dad was organizing something, and it wasn't positive.
I shut the journal, my thoughts spinning with shock and terror. What was I planning to do? How was I supposed to prevent my father?
And what would occur to Logan if I chose not to?
I remained seated on the floor, the journal still grasped in my hand, while I called my twin sister Brenda's number. She picked up on the first ring, and I could sense the worry in her voice when she asked, "Brianna, what happened?"
I attempted to talk, but my voice broke as I started to cry. Brenda's voice shifted from worry to panic as she inquired, "Brianna, what's happening? "Inform me!"
I inhaled deeply, attempting to steady myself while I explained everything to Brenda. I informed her regarding Logan's doubts, concerning my father's journal, and about the potential plans he could be devising. Brenda paid close attention, her quietness a reflection of her disbelief and worry.
After I had completed my speaking, Brenda's tone was tranquil and reassuring. "Brianna, oh my gosh, I truly apologize." I was completely unaware. "However, we will overcome this together, alright?"
I nodded, although she was unable to see me. "Alright," I murmured, a feeling of relief sweeping through me.
Brenda's tone was steady and comforting. "We'll determine our next steps, Brianna." We'll have a conversation with Logan, However, for the time being, just attempt to relax, alright? "You're secure, and we will navigate this together."
I inhaled deeply, experiencing a feeling of thankfulness for my sister. Brenda had always been my support, my trusted friend, and my closest companion. And at this moment, I required her more than before.
While we conversed, I started to experience a feeling of tranquility enveloping me. Brenda's comforting words, her vow to support me, and her commitment to assist me in overcoming this tough period all worked together to calm my jangled nerves.
After what seemed like forever, Brenda and I ultimately exchanged our farewells. I ended the call, experiencing a wave of determination come over me. I recognized that a challenging and lengthy journey awaited me, but with Brenda beside me, I believed I could handle anything.
I inhaled deeply, dried my tears, and got to my feet. The moment had come to face the reality, to confront my father and uncover the truth. With Brenda's assistance, I realized I could achieve it.
I waited outside my father's study, inhaling deeply to soothe my nerves. I had been weeping for what seemed like hours, yet I realized I needed to pull myself together before confronting my father. I wiped my tears and forced myself to smile.
I opened the door and found my father seated at the desk. He glanced at me, displaying a combination of worry and interest on his expression.
"Brianna, is something bothering you?" he inquired, his tone becoming gentler.
I nodded my head, attempting to keep my calm. "Nothing, Dad." "I’m okay."
My dad lifted an eyebrow, evidently doubting me. "Brianna, I notice that you've been in tears." "What is happening?"
I inhaled deeply, attempting to come up with a plausible falsehood. "I was simply... um... viewing a depressing film." That's everything."
My father gazed at me with doubt, yet he chose not to pursue the matter any further. Rather, he inclined his head and replied, "All right, dearie." "If you’re confident you’re okay..."
I nodded, attempting to provide him with reassurance. "I’m sure, Father." "Don't be concerned about me."
My dad grinned and rose to his feet, moving around his desk to embrace me. "Alright, little one." I will not stress. "However, if you ever want to discuss anything, you know I’m available for you, correct?"
I nodded, experiencing a rush of guilt for deceiving my father. However, I realized that I could not rely on him, especially after what I had found out. I embraced him in return, attempting to act as if all was well.
However, as I stepped back and gazed into his eyes, I noticed something that sent a chill through me. A sparkle of strategy, a suggestion of control. I understood that I had to be very careful and cautious around my father.
I smiled pretending not to notice any unusual thing . Yet internally, I was boiling with rage and resolve. I was determined to uncover my father's secrets, regardless of the effort required.
