Chapter 46 Dad... I'm scared

Chapter 46 Dad... I'm scared
A loud noise echoed throughout the room, the dice rolling, and the bets already in place. No one could calm down now; the two players were completely out of balance, but they continued the game with great enthusiasm.

Camilla had been sitting there for the past ten minutes, angrily cursing her own stupidity. She had no idea that the man named Cancri was a madman who could nearly bankrupt her.

Everyone else was silent, but the way they watched the game was unsettling to Camilla.

"You're very eager to play against me, Miss." Cancri looked at Camilla. He pulled one corner of his lips and glanced at the dice now on the table. Luck was indeed on Camilla's side this round, and he was quite relieved that her misfortune hadn't caused her to fall and shatter.

"I'm confident I can beat you, Mr. Snake." Camilla scooped up the chips she had won. She then adjusted the bets on the table.

Cancri stared at Camilla, not expecting her to take such a big risk. "Are you sure about this?"

"I never back down," Camilla replied. She wouldn't let him dictate her, she wouldn't listen to anyone when gambling, because no one could be trusted with any decision.

"Gambling isn't just about using your brain, Miss." Cancri grinned.

Camilla still didn't care, looking away to avoid looking at him. Her irritation was already building, but she wasn't ready to back down.

"I'll give you one chance to change your choice." Cancri raised an eyebrow, smiling when Camilla hesitated.

Camilla looked back down at the chips she had placed, then she looked back at Cancri. He was giving her a chance, and she had to think carefully this time. Gambling wasn't just about intelligence, but also luck.

"Three," Cancri said.

Camilla glanced around, seeing that many people were waiting for her decision.

"Two," Cancri said again.

Camilla swallowed hard, cold sweat beginning to form and trickle down her clothes. Her heart raced, and her blood boiled even more.

“One!” Cancri said. The man had also placed his bet. He had wagered all his chips, and now there was no turning back.

Camilla held her breath, looked at Cancri, and could only surrender. It was too late; she could only pray that he would win this round again.

Camilla felt increasingly nervous, swallowing occasionally, and trying to calm down.

Not long after, the dice were rolled, and Camilla closed her eyes. She was afraid to see the result; she had a terrible feeling now.

Cancri, seeing Camilla's reaction, simply grinned; he would make her regret her decisions tonight.

Everyone else in the room was the same, focused on the dice, oblivious to their surroundings.

Among them, no one expected Camilla to win. They wanted to see the woman lose, and bow down at the feet of the man she had challenged to a bet.

“CAMILLA!” someone shouted.

All eyes were on the entrance, where a man in a black suit was striding briskly toward the crowd.

Camilla, hearing the voice, immediately opened her eyes and met the gaze of a man who was none other than her husband. Why did that man look so scary now?

Camilla took a few steps back, shocked and afraid. Danieru's face was filled with anger, and she felt terrified as she met his gaze.

"Da-danieru," Camilla said, her lips trembling.

Danieru, who had been searching for Camilla since noon, felt completely toyed with. He hadn't expected her to so boldly leave him. Anger gripped his heart, until he couldn't contain his emotions and lost control.

"Dan-danieru," Camilla said again, her body still trembling. She didn't know what would happen next.

Camilla closed her eyes, terrified. She only hoped the man wouldn't hurt her, and she also hoped Danieru would forgive her.

The man quickly approached Camilla, grabbed her hand, and quickly left. He dragged Camilla along, not caring whether his grip hurt her or not.

“S-sorry,” Camilla muttered hoarsely.

Danieru turned a deaf ear to himself, not wanting to hear any of her excuses right now. He only knew that she had to learn to be quiet and not contradict him. He was doing all this out of concern for her, and he couldn't bear to have her around another man.

“Wait!” Cancri said.

Danieru stopped, while Camilla simply tried to free her hand from his grasp.

“We're playing, sir.” Cancri smiled.

“I don't care,” Danieru said.

“Let go!” Camilla shouted as Danieru started walking quickly again and pulled her hand away roughly.

Danieru ignored her pleas. He kept walking, heading for the exit.

“Danieru! Let go, my hand hurts!” Camilla kept struggling, tears streaming down her face.

“Let go! Let go! Let go!” Camilla kept trying. She wouldn't give up; she would try to make Danieru treat her kindly.

“Danieru, let go!” Camilla’s voice was hoarse, and she kept trying to get him to release her wrist.

Danieru stopped, glanced at Camilla quickly, and raised his right hand. The man glared at Camilla, and he immediately placed his hand on her cheek.

Plak ...

The sound echoed quite loudly, and at that moment, time seemed to stop. The two of them were silent, and the people around them chose to ignore it.

Camilla was shocked by what had just happened. She swallowed hard, her heartbeat seemed to stop, her heart felt crushed.

Danieru felt his right hand tremble, and he felt regretful. He had just hurt her; he had just used violence to resolve a problem.

Danieru let go of Camilla's hand, and he could see how confused she was. It hurt... he was also incredibly regretful. It shouldn't have been like this; he should have been able to control his emotions.

"Camilla..." Danieru mumbled, "...I'm sorry."

There was no response from Camilla, and that left Danieru confused. She must be angry and deeply disappointed in him.

"I-I... I didn't mean to," Danieru said.

Camilla, having just been slapped by Danieru, felt deeply hurt. She couldn't believe that the man who promised to protect her would now hurt her. The woman held her cheek where she'd been hit, feeling incredibly hot.

This was embarrassing for Camilla; she didn't know where to turn in front of so many people. Her tears just flowed freely, flowing easily, and falling onto the white porcelain floor.

“Camilla, I-I... I didn't mean to,” Danieru said again. He tried to hug his wife, but stopped when Camilla looked at him with her red, wet eyes.

Damn... he'd really hurt her, this time things were even more chaotic. “I'm sorry... I beg you, forgive me.”

Camilla stood up straight, quickly pushed away from Danieru, and ran out of the building. She couldn't describe how she felt: pain... disappointment... and fear.

Their wedding vows echoed in Camilla's ears. Then the reality of their contractual marriage hit her again.

'Dad, I want to go home... Dad, please... I'm scared.' Camilla closed her eyes, now outside the building, and ran as fast as she could.

She didn't care about the rain; she kept running. 'Dad... I'm scared.'
