Chapter Ninety-One

Then I spotted it. A dark large book flew over to where I was standing. It was an unusual, yet captivating sight, and I stood dazedly for a moment. It floated right before me, swaying gently. It also carried an ancient aura which felt familiar.

And natural.

“What are you?” I whispered. And even though I wasn't expecting it to respond, I blinked when the book flipped its pages stopping at a particular page. The characters were foreign, but I understood what it meant. Which was odd.

Very odd. But with the events happening lately, I needed to change my definition of odd.

The book jolted, as if urging me to read the words. Its actions puzzled me. I read the words aloud.

“Da-ji and the Controller shall become one.”

Da-ji?

“Who’s Da-ji?” I wondered aloud, the same moment a gentle force pushed me forward.

I jolted as a series of instructions poured into my mind. It was sudden, yet natural. I knew what to do, and I didn't hesitate nor did I wonder what was happening.

I glanced down at the plain land I was standing on. “Too bland,” I murmured. “Be full of life,” I ordered, stretching my hand towards it.

True enough, beautiful flowers sprouted around, creating a dazzling sight.

This was new. Queen Belinda and X didn't mention that I could create things. And wasn't I tied up at Tyler's domain moments ago? Where was this place? And what was this book?

Its pages were still open, and I blinked when it began flipping again.

When it finally paused at a page, I frowned. And that was because words weren't written on this page, rather it was drawn.

Like a real image was drawn on the page.

I looked closely, and a soft gasp left my lips.

It was a woman. Me.

And in the image, I was wielding a dark sword. Someone was by my side too.

Zeke.

I frowned, feeling confused.

“Are you trying to tell me something?” I asked the book.

It gave no reaction. But that was only for a moment before it began flipping its pages again.

Okay, this time words were written on the page.

“The beginning.” I read aloud.

Beginning of what?

“Stop confusing me. What are you trying to tell me?” I asked exasperatedly.

And maybe I was imagining it, but I thought I heard the book scoff. It was acting sentient, like it had a mind of its own.

I took a deep breath, before trying again.

“Okay, start from telling me where I am.” I demanded calmly.

The book jolted, before flipping its pages. After what seemed like a long while, it finally stopped at a page.

“Once the Controller crosses the stage of determination, the Controller's domain would be unlocked.”  Those were the words written on the page.

In those weird characters which I somehow understood, of course.

I suddenly wished I was still at Gavemorth. Queen Belinda would be able to explain what was happening.

But at the moment, I was alone. And I had to figure it out myself.

Why was the Source not helping me, when I needed it the most?

Except-

Except this was what it wanted.

Maybe it wanted me to train on my own. Was it its own way of preparing me for what was ahead?

I almost groaned in frustration.

Questions. Questions.

And more questions.

All without answers.

I focused my attention on the book, and then at the beautiful garden I'd just created. Birds chirped, hovering above the trees.

This place was now different, full of life. And it resonated with my being.

For the next few hours, under the influence of the gentle force, I mastered certain spells that I'd never seen before. My stomach groaned, and as I wished for a plate of chicken and some pizza, a little table materialized before me.

On the tablecloth were two plates.

Chicken and pizza. What the hell-

I eyed the plates suspiciously, without making a move to touch them. For all I knew, it could be Tyler at work.

Or even that Lumi.

But my stomach growled again. I damned the consequences, and pulled the table close, digging in hastily. The chicken was so tender that I let out a little moan of approval. I hadn't eaten such delicious food in a while. When I was finally done eating, a large glass of water appeared on the table. I didn't hesitate this time, before grabbing the glass and chugging down the water. I felt full and satiated afterwards. “Thank you,” I murmured. I noticed that the dark book was now lying beside my feet.

“The training session is over. The Controller will return now.” I heard a familiar celestial voice say within me.

Then my vision turned dark. When I opened my eyes again, I was back at Tyler's prison. Only that this time, I wasn't surrounded by fire. And I wasn't bound by those chains.

What was happening?

I didn't have time to ponder enough, as Tyler walked in. He was dressed in a different color of suit from moments ago.

“Let’s see how strong your determination is, in face of your boyfriend's death. I'm impressed, I must say. It's been weeks already.” His voice wasn't casual, even betraying a hint of anger.

But that wasn't what I was concerned about. He just said, weeks. As in weeks since our last encounter?

I didn't ask, afraid that I'd betray something I wasn't supposed to. As such, I pretended like I was still surrounded by heat, whereas I was lying on a plain land.

“It’s time to go back. If my calculations are correct, Zeke is headed towards the castle. Alongside others of course.” He laughed sarcastically.

“So this isn't Weasels?” I asked calmly.

He simply cocked his head to the side, and snapped his hand.

“Let’s unbind you, no?” He said, confirming my suspicion. He couldn't see through whatever facade it was that was shrouding me. And he still thought I was bound by those chains.

Was I getting powerful, or was he getting weak?

He raised a finger, and I floated into the air. I was still dressed in the black leather pants and high heeled boots I'd been wearing ever since I was captured.
