Chapter Eighty-Five

Mirah
A joke.
It definitely had to be a joke. I felt like I was witnessing a scene I had no business with.
A human controlling the foundation of a supernatural world?
“This makes no sense,” I massaged my temple, looking around the table.
“It does, Destined.” Kaleb said, and I glowered at him.
“Don’t call me that.” I snapped at him.
“Why did you guys abduct her while we were fighting with Xavier?” Zeke asked, gesturing at the white-haired Xavier, while looking at Roanna.
I perked my ears for her response.
“You were about to send her back in time. We were working on your uncle's orders.” Roanna replied calmly.
“So you knew about this from the start?” Zeke asked again.
“I didn't. I'm only just discovering about this now.” She replied with a sigh.
“Is this going to affect anything? We aren't supposed to know that this is another lifetime right?” I suddenly asked, cutting through the tension that filled the room.
Queen Belinda exchanged glances with Xavier.
“It might.” She replied.
“We have to make Tyler believe that we're enemies. That I hate you as much as I hate him. He wouldn't expect us to join hands then.” Xavier said.
“First of all, I'd like to call you X. We can't have two Xaviers in a room.” I made a face. “Secondly, how am I supposed to control what I have no idea about?” I frowned.
“About that, you'd receive lessons from all of us. The Source is like the foundation of all the nine powers of the Dark realm. Once you learn how to control it, it's like having nine powers at once.” X explained.
“Including Vampire powers?” I asked with a hint of doubt.
“You’d see.” He chuckled.
Roanna who'd been observing us all these while suddenly turned to Zeke.
“You were able to make the Source rewrite its powers. How did you do that?” She asked.
I didn't understand what she meant. But I genuinely wanted to know. So I turned to Zeke too.
He exhaled slowly. “I honestly don't know. The thought suddenly occurred to me, and I just acted on it. I wasn't even sure about what'd happen as all I cared about was saving Mirah at that moment.” His voice broke, and my heart ached.
It was a memory I didn't wish to relive.
“So you're saying the thought just occurred to you?” It was X who spoke this time.
Zeke nodded in affirmation.
“Were you mated to Mirah before then?” Kaleb asked.
Zeke shot him a look that could kill.
“Really? We've explained everything to you. You don't need to hold grudges, Prince Zeke.” Kaleb said, a smirk tugging at his lips.
I suddenly wished I could gouge out the fucker's eyes.
“I wasn't mated to Mirah before the incident.” Zeke replied, ignoring Kaleb's latter words.
“If this is what I think it is, then-” Xavier frowned.
“What is it?” Zeke asked, taking the words right out of my mouth.
“We haven't had a Source Architect for generations now. And that's because the previous Source Controllers didn't want rivals.”
“Are you saying I might be a Source Architect? I'm a Vampire, not a Rogue-brid.” Zeke pointed out.
“That’s what makes it confusing.” X said looking genuinely confused.
I was about to speak, when I suddenly felt a weird sensation wracking my body.
One moment I was in the room.
The next moment I was standing before a glowing ball.
Wait-
The Source.
I felt a sense of familiarity as I walked close to where it floated majestically above shining crystals arranged in a weird sequence below it.
“So you're the one that chose me to be your Controller?” I murmured, my legs pulling me closer to it.
Unlike the last time when I'd felt scorched all over as I floated within close proximity to it, this time I felt cold.
It felt like an extension of myself.
And then I noticed something odd.
It was hard not to. A dark patch covering the blue glowing ball. It felt ominous, and made my heart beat furiously.
“What’s this?” I murmured, inching my hand to touch it.
A blast hit me, throwing me back to the ground.
“Fuck,” I groaned from the impact of the fall.
“Mirah! Mirah are you okay?” I heard Zeke call out from a distance.
It was like I was close to him, yet far off.
I looked back at the Source, and then the dark patch, before pondering on the first thought that should've come to mind when I first arrived.
Where was I?
“The purest of hearts, the strongest of minds. Only one I've chosen shall bear my might. Seek forth the Book, for only with it shall you hope to destroy the Lumi!”
I jolted as I heard those words uttered by a celestial voice.
No. Not heard.
I felt the voice. Like it was within me.
I looked around, goosebumps peppering my arms.
“Zeke! Zeke, where are you?!” I called out, anxiety creeping in.
“Right here, Kitten.” He said.
I sighed in relief. I was back at the table, almost like nothing had happened.
Except for the fact that what I'd just experienced was so vivid.
“Tell us Mirabella, what happened?” X asked, like he had an idea of what I just encountered.
“I…” I took a deep breath, before I began.
“I saw the Source,” I paused.
“Did it say anything to you?” X prompted.
“Yes…” I recounted what the voice had said, word for word.
They all had grim looks on their faces when I finished off.
“Lumi.” Queen Belinda's eyes widened, as if she was afraid to utter the word.
“Yes. What is it?” I had an inkling it was something super dangerous, considering how they were reacting. Zeke wasn't any better.
“The Lumi are an ancient dark power known to possess only those with ill intentions and greed. Their powers are like, if not more than the Source. Ages ago, all the nine powers of the Dark realm fought against them, successfully sealing them away. If the Source mentioned them, that means-” Queen Belinda paused and looked at me.
“They’re back.” My heartbeat accelerated.
