Chapter 40: The Negril Beach

The next morning, we both rose early. We made sure we weren't high or drunk today, so it was pretty easy to wake up. I packed my bags because we were going snorkeling today. I packed swimwear for Aaron and myself. "You’re the best," he said. I smiled. "I couldn’t agree more," I said, kissing him on the head. "So, the snorkeling today will just be at Negril beach, I assume? I don’t want to go too far."

"Yes, that’s right here," he replied.

"Okay, thank God," I said.

"Do you know they used to call this beach the Bloody Bay?" he asked.

"No, why the name?" I inquired.

"Well, in the 19th century, whalers butchered their catch there," he explained.

"No, you’re kidding," I said.

"It’s true," he replied.

"So, is this considered safe?" I asked.

"Very safe! Just don’t walk alone at midnight or high from space cake," he teased.

"Ha ha, you’re a funny tour guide. We might as well cancel ours," I rolled my eyes.

"Can you bring regular clothes as well? Or some fancy clothes? Because we're going to Ricky’s Cafe to drink a cocktail and watch the sunset," Aaron suggested.

"Oh, I like that," I said. "Yes, also some sporty clothes, because the lighthouse, the Negril lighthouse, is also on the list. What do you think about that?"

"Yeah, that sounds thrilling. I can't wait, to be honest," Aaron replied.

"So, what's for breakfast?" I asked.

"I don't know, I ordered a lot of things, you may choose. They will bring it to our room, so we don't have to go downstairs," Aaron said.

"Oh, thank God," I said. "I don't want to see that waiter teasing me again."

Aaron smiled, "No, he won't. Don’t worry ."

"Yeah, whatever. You were not the one drunk and misbehaving."

"So, we will be there all day?" I asked.

"Yes, as we should. Do you have other plans, or what?" He replied.

"No, I just want to sleep all day," I said. "Come on, our vacation will be over fast. Do you really want this? Just doing nothing, and then go back to Suriname. To that stressful empire of my family again."

I smiled, "Okay, fine. Let's move." I took some sweet pancakes from the table and started to eat them. I grabbed some bacon as well. I was so hungry. I made myself a strong cup of coffee and drank it fast. Aaron also ate a lot of what we had on the table. When we made sure we were stuffed, we also took some biscuits and water just in case. And then we walked outside.

The tour guide was already downstairs waiting for us. “Hi, welcome! My name is Jemmy, I'm your tour guide today," Jemmy greeted us. "So... I will start by giving you... a tour around the Negril beach. It won't take that long and after that you will have... the possibility to go diving or snorkeling. If you need equipment you can rent that from $10."

"Sounds good," we said. We were there with a group of 8. He basically talked again about the history of the Negril beach.

"We didn't have to come here, it's basically all the same thing that you said," I whispered to Aaron.

"Yeah, just listen carefully, maybe I missed something. Whatever, not interested."

When it was time to snorkel or dive, I didn't feel like it. I had fun watching everyone else do it, but I didn't want to get my hair wet. So I just sat there. Aaron didn't want to leave me as well.

"Don't be scared," I said. "I won't eat space cake from someone." We both chuckled.

"Okay, good."

We couldn't wait for everyone to be done exploring the beach. We had been there for a couple of days already, and we were so bored of seeing the same sights. But then again, I didn't want to travel too far, so I chose the tour around this beach.

In the meantime, Aaron grabbed some snacks again because we were just bored. Snacking was becoming a bad habit of ours. He held my hand the whole time. We watched a couple with kids.

"I really can't wait to have kids with you. We will be like that, taking pictures like that. Do you like that?" I chuckled.

"Well yes, I think I'm ready to be the housewife," Aaron smiled.

"You don't have to be the housewife. You can still have a job or pursue a hobby. Of course, it will be fine for me to provide for you. But I want you to go after your dreams too. That's a promise I will make. I won't stand in your way."

"Oh Aaron, thank you," I said.

Our cruise arrived. The tour guide would bring us to Rick's Cafe, and I really couldn't wait because a couple of hours had passed, so it was finally time for lunch. We had our lunch over there, and then he brought us to the lighthouse.

The day went by fast. Aaron and I just took some regular pictures, and then we went back to the cafe to sip on some good cocktails.

I felt super lazy.

“So you did pack all the swimming clothes just to sit here and sip on cocktails?" Aaron asked.

"Yes," I said. "I feel so bad because I want you to enjoy."

"You really can go. I'm good here. I could use some alone time," I said to Aaron.

"No, I'm good wherever you're good."

"All the people were cliff jumping. It seemed so fun. We were just there for the food and alcohol. I felt so ashamed. And then came the moment we all waited for. Sunset. It was so beautiful."

"Will we make a wish again today?" Aaron asked me.

"No, Aaron. No, stop it with your granny talk," I chuckled. "I've had enough of it. Let's not do this today."

He held my hand. "Okay, fine. I'll make a wish just in case."

"Okay."
